Greatness of the Confluence of the Kara and Narmada

Verse 1 (skanda.5.179.1)

श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच। सङ्गमः करनर्मदयोः पुरे मान्धातृसंज्ञिते । गत्वा स्नात्वा तपयित्वा पितॄन्विष्णुपुरं नयेत्

śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca| saṅgamaḥ karanarmadayoḥ pure māndhātṛsaṁjñite | gatvā snātvā tapayitvā pitḥnviṣṇupuraṁ nayet

Sri Markandeya said: In the town known as Mandhatri there is the confluence of the Kara and Narmada rivers. Having gone there, bathed, and offered libations, one leads one's ancestors to the abode of Vishnu.

Verse 2 (skanda.5.179.2)

मर्दयित्वा करौ पूर्वं विष्णुर्दैत्यजिघांसया । चक्रं जग्राह तत्रैव स्वेदाज्जाता सरिद्वरा

mardayitvā karau pūrvaṁ viṣṇurdaityajighāṁsayā | cakraṁ jagrāha tatraiva svedājjātā saridvarā

Formerly, desiring to slay a demon, Vishnu rubbed his two hands together and there took up his discus; from that very sweat this excellent river was born.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.179.3)

संगता रेवया तत्र स्नात्वा पापैः प्रमुच्यते

saṁgatā revayā tatra snātvā pāpaiḥ pramucyate

Having bathed there where it joins the Reva, one is released from sins.
