Verse 1 (skanda.5.386.1)

श्रीसूत उवाच। तथैव तीर्थस्तबकान् वक्ष्येऽहमृषिसत्तमाः। यैस्तु तीर्थावलीगुम्फः पूर्वोक्तैरेकतः कृतः।

śrīsūta uvāca| tathaiva tīrthastabakān vakṣye'hamṛṣisattamāḥ| yaistu tīrthāvalīgumphaḥ pūrvoktairekataḥ kṛtaḥ||

Shri Suta said: O best of sages, I shall likewise now tell of the clusters of tirthas by which the previously told garland-string of tirthas was woven together as one.

Verse 2 (skanda.5.386.2)

विभक्तो भक्तलोकानामानन्दप्रथनः शुभः। मृकण्डतनयः पूर्वं प्राह पार्थाय पृच्छते।

vibhakto bhaktalokānāmānandaprathanaḥ śubhaḥ| mṛkaṇḍatanayaḥ pūrvaṁ prāha pārthāya pṛcchate||

Though divided into parts, it is an auspicious garland spreading joy among the people of devotees; the son of Mrikandu formerly told it to Partha as he inquired.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.386.3)

यथा तथाहं वक्ष्यामि तीर्थानां स्तबकानिह। शिवाम्बुपानजा पुण्या रेवा कल्पलता किल।

yathā tathāhaṁ vakṣyāmi tīrthānāṁ stabakāniha| śivāmbupānajā puṇyā revā kalpalatā kila||

Just as he told it, so shall I tell here the clusters of tirthas. The holy Reva, sprung from Shiva's own water, is indeed like a wish-fulfilling creeper.

Verse 4 (skanda.5.386.4)

तीरद्वयोद्भूततीर्थप्रसूनैः पुष्पिता शुभा। यत्पुण्यगन्धलक्ष्म्या वै त्रैलोक्यं सुरभीकृतम्।

tīradvayodbhūtatīrthaprasūnaiḥ puṣpitā śubhā| yatpuṇyagandhalakṣmyā vai trailokyaṁ surabhīkṛtam||

Auspicious, blossoming with the flowers of the tirthas born on both its banks, by the glory of whose holy fragrance the three worlds have been perfumed.

Verse 5 (skanda.5.386.5)

तत्पुष्पमकरन्दस्य रसास्वादविदुत्तमः। भ्रमरः खलु मार्कण्डो मुनिर्मतिमतां वरः।

tatpuṣpamakarandasya rasāsvādaviduttamaḥ| bhramaraḥ khalu mārkaṇḍo munirmatimatāṁ varaḥ||

The sage Markandeya, the best among the wise, is indeed the bee that best knows how to taste the nectar of those flowers.

Verse 6 (skanda.5.386.6)

तत्पुष्पमालां हृदये तीर्थस्तबकचित्रिताम्। दधाति सततं पुण्यां मुनिर्भृगुकुलोद्वहः। तस्याः स्तबकसंस्थानं वक्ष्येऽहमृषिसत्तमाः।

tatpuṣpamālāṁ hṛdaye tīrthastabakacitritām| dadhāti satataṁ puṇyāṁ munirbhṛgukulodvahaḥ| tasyāḥ stabakasaṁsthānaṁ vakṣye'hamṛṣisattamāḥ||

The sage, the upholder of Bhrigu's lineage, ever bears in his heart that holy garland, adorned with clusters of tirthas. O best of sages, I shall now describe the arrangement of its clusters.

Verse 7 (skanda.5.386.7)

ओङ्कारतीर्थमारभ्य यावत्पश्चिमसागरम्। संगमाः पञ्चत्रिंशद्वै नदीनां पापनाशनाः।

oṅkāratīrthamārabhya yāvatpaścimasāgaram| saṁgamāḥ pañcatriṁśadvai nadīnāṁ pāpanāśanāḥ||

Beginning from the tirtha of Omkara up to the western ocean, there are thirty-five sin-destroying confluences of rivers.

Verse 8 (skanda.5.386.8)

दशैकमुत्तरे तीरे सत्रिविंशति दक्षिणे। पञ्चत्रिंशत्तमः श्रेष्ठो रेवासागरसङ्गमः।

daśaikamuttare tīre satriviṁśati dakṣiṇe| pañcatriṁśattamaḥ śreṣṭho revāsāgarasaṅgamaḥ||

Eleven on the northern bank, twenty-three on the southern bank, and the thirty-fifth and best is the confluence of the Reva and the ocean.

Verse 9 (skanda.5.386.9)

सङ्गमः सहितान्येवं रेवातीरद्वयेऽपि च। चतुःशतानि तीर्थानि प्रसिद्धानि द्विजोत्तमाः।

saṅgamaḥ sahitānyevaṁ revātīradvaye'pi ca| catuḥśatāni tīrthāni prasiddhāni dvijottamāḥ||

O best of the twice-born, thus, including the confluences, on both banks of the Reva, four hundred tirthas are renowned.

Verse 10 (skanda.5.386.10)

त्रिशतं शिवतीर्थानि त्रयीस्त्रिंशत्समन्वितम्। तत्रापि व्यक्तितो वक्ष्ये शृणुध्वं तानि सत्तमाः।

triśataṁ śivatīrthāni trayīstriṁśatsamanvitam| tatrāpi vyaktito vakṣye śṛṇudhvaṁ tāni sattamāḥ||

Of these, three hundred and thirty-three are Shiva-tirthas; I shall tell of them individually — hear them, O most excellent ones.

Verse 11 (skanda.5.386.11)

मार्कण्डेश्वरतीर्थानि दश तेषु मुनीश्वराः। दशादित्यभवान्यत्र नवैव कपिलेश्वराः।

mārkaṇḍeśvaratīrthāni daśa teṣu munīśvarāḥ| daśādityabhavānyatra navaiva kapileśvarāḥ||

O lords of sages, among them there are ten Markandeshvara tirthas, ten arisen from the Sun, and nine Kapileshvaras.

Verse 12 (skanda.5.386.12)

सोमसंस्थापितान्यष्टौ तावन्तो नर्मदेश्वराः। कोटितीर्थान्यथाष्टौ च सप्त सिद्धेश्वरास्तथा।

somasaṁsthāpitānyaṣṭau tāvanto narmadeśvarāḥ| koṭitīrthānyathāṣṭau ca sapta siddheśvarāstathā||

Eight established by Soma, likewise eight Narmadeshvaras, then eight Koti-tirthas, and likewise seven Siddheshvaras.

Verse 13 (skanda.5.386.13)

नागेश्वराश्च सप्तैव रेवातीरद्वयेऽपि तु। सप्तैव वह्निविहितान्यथाप्यावर्तसप्तकम्।

nāgeśvarāśca saptaiva revātīradvaye'pi tu| saptaiva vahnivihitānyathāpyāvartasaptakam||

And seven Nageshvaras on both banks of the Reva; likewise seven established by Agni, and a group of seven Avarta tirthas.

Verse 14 (skanda.5.386.14)

केदारेश्वरतीर्थानि पञ्च पञ्चेन्द्रजानि च। वरुणेशाश्च पञ्चैव पञ्चैव धनदेश्वराः।

kedāreśvaratīrthāni pañca pañcendrajāni ca| varuṇeśāśca pañcaiva pañcaiva dhanadeśvarāḥ||

Five Kedareshvara tirthas, and five arisen from Indra, and five Varuneshas, and five Dhanadeshvaras.

Verse 15 (skanda.5.386.15)

देवतीर्थानि पञ्चैव चत्वारो वै यमेश्वराः। वैद्यनाथाश्च चत्वारश्चत्वारो वानरेश्वराः।

devatīrthāni pañcaiva catvāro vai yameśvarāḥ| vaidyanāthāśca catvāraścatvāro vānareśvarāḥ||

Five Deva-tirthas, four Yameshvaras, four Vaidyanathas, and four Vanareshvaras.

Verse 16 (skanda.5.386.16)

अङ्गारेश्वरतीर्थानि तावन्त्येव मुनीश्वराः। सारस्वतानि चत्वारि चत्वारो दारुकेश्वराः।

aṅgāreśvaratīrthāni tāvantyeva munīśvarāḥ| sārasvatāni catvāri catvāro dārukeśvarāḥ||

O lords of sages, that same number of Angareshvara tirthas, four Sarasvatas, and four Darukeshvaras.

Verse 17 (skanda.5.386.17)

गौतमेश्वरतीर्थानि त्रीणि रामेश्वरास्त्रयः। कपालेश्वरतीर्थानि त्रीणि हंसकृतानि च।

gautameśvaratīrthāni trīṇi rāmeśvarāstrayaḥ| kapāleśvaratīrthāni trīṇi haṁsakṛtāni ca||

Three Gautameshvara tirthas, three Rameshvaras, three Kapaleshvara tirthas, and three made by Hansa.

Verse 18 (skanda.5.386.18)

त्रीण्येव मोक्षतीर्थानि त्रयो वै विमलेश्वराः। सहस्रयज्ञतीर्थानि त्रीण्येव मुनिरब्रवीत्।

trīṇyeva mokṣatīrthāni trayo vai vimaleśvarāḥ| sahasrayajñatīrthāni trīṇyeva munirabravīt||

Just three Moksha-tirthas, three Vimaleshvaras, and three Sahasrayajna tirthas — so the sage declared.

Verse 19 (skanda.5.386.19)

भीमेश्वरास्त्रयः ख्याताः स्वर्णतीर्थानि त्रीणि च। धौतपापद्वयं प्रोक्तं करञ्जेशद्वयं तथा।

bhīmeśvarāstrayaḥ khyātāḥ svarṇatīrthāni trīṇi ca| dhautapāpadvayaṁ proktaṁ karañjeśadvayaṁ tathā||

Three renowned Bhimeshvaras, and three Svarna-tirthas; two Dhautapapas are declared, and likewise two Karanjeshas.

Verse 20 (skanda.5.386.20)

ऋणमोचनतीर्थे द्वे तथा स्कन्देश्वरद्वयम्। दशाश्वमेधतीर्थे द्वे नन्दीतीर्थद्वयं द्विजाः।

ṛṇamocanatīrthe dve tathā skandeśvaradvayam| daśāśvamedhatīrthe dve nandītīrthadvayaṁ dvijāḥ||

O brahmins, two Rinamochana tirthas, likewise two Skandeshvaras, two Dashashvamedha tirthas, and two Nandi tirthas.

Verse 21 (skanda.5.386.21)

मन्मथेशद्वयं चैव भृगुतीर्थद्वयं तथा। पराशरेश्वरौ द्वौ च अयोनीसंभवद्वयम्।

manmatheśadvayaṁ caiva bhṛgutīrthadvayaṁ tathā| parāśareśvarau dvau ca ayonīsaṁbhavadvayam||

Two Manmatheshas, likewise two Bhrigu-tirthas, two Parashareshvaras, and two tirthas of "Ayoni" origin.

Verse 22 (skanda.5.386.22)

व्यासेश्वरद्वयं प्रोक्तं पितृतीर्थद्वयं तथा। नन्दिकेश्वरतीर्थे द्वे द्वौ च गोपेश्वरौ स्मृतौ।

vyāseśvaradvayaṁ proktaṁ pitṛtīrthadvayaṁ tathā| nandikeśvaratīrthe dve dvau ca gopeśvarau smṛtau||

Two Vyaseshvaras are declared, likewise two Pitri-tirthas, two Nandikeshvara tirthas, and two Gopeshvaras are recorded.

Verse 23 (skanda.5.386.23)

मारुतेशद्वयं तद्वद्द्वौ च ज्वालेश्वरौ स्मृतौ। शुक्लतीर्थद्वयं पुण्यमप्सरेशद्वयं तथा।

māruteśadvayaṁ tadvaddvau ca jvāleśvarau smṛtau| śuklatīrthadvayaṁ puṇyamapsareśadvayaṁ tathā||

Likewise two Marutheshas, and two Jvaleshvaras are recorded; two holy Shukla-tirthas, and likewise two Apsareshas.

Verse 24 (skanda.5.386.24)

पिप्पलेश्वरतीर्थे द्वे माण्डव्येश्वरसंज्ञिते। द्वीपेश्वरद्वयं चैव प्राह तद्वद्भृगूद्वहः। उत्तरेश्वरतीर्थे द्वे अशोकेशद्वयी तथा।

pippaleśvaratīrthe dve māṇḍavyeśvarasaṁjñite| dvīpeśvaradvayaṁ caiva prāha tadvadbhṛgūdvahaḥ| uttareśvaratīrthe dve aśokeśadvayī tathā||

Two Pippaleshvara tirthas, two called Mandavyeshvara; and likewise the descendant of Bhrigu declared two Dvipeshvaras; two Uttareshvara tirthas, and likewise two Ashokeshas.

Verse 25 (skanda.5.386.25)

द्वे योधनपुरे चैव रोहिणीतीर्थकद्वयम्। लुङ्केश्वरद्वयं ख्यातमाख्यानं मुनिना तथा।

dve yodhanapure caiva rohiṇītīrthakadvayam| luṅkeśvaradvayaṁ khyātamākhyānaṁ muninā tathā||

Two at Yodhanapura, and two Rohini-tirthas; two renowned Lunkeshvaras — thus the account was told by the sage.

Verse 26 (skanda.5.386.26)

सैकोनविंशतिशतं तीर्थान्येकैकशो द्विजाः। स्तबकेषु कृतं तीर्थं द्विशतं सचतुर्दशम्।

saikonaviṁśatiśataṁ tīrthānyekaikaśo dvijāḥ| stabakeṣu kṛtaṁ tīrthaṁ dviśataṁ sacaturdaśam||

O brahmins, one hundred and nineteen tirthas occur individually, each one separately; the tirthas grouped in clusters number two hundred and fourteen.

Verse 27 (skanda.5.386.27)

शैवान्येतानि तीर्थानि वैष्णवानि च सत्तमाः। शृणुध्वं प्रोच्यमानानि ब्राह्मशाक्तानि च क्रमात्।

śaivānyetāni tīrthāni vaiṣṇavāni ca sattamāḥ| śṛṇudhvaṁ procyamānāni brāhmaśāktāni ca kramāt||

O most excellent ones, these are the Shaiva tirthas; now hear, in due order, the Vaishnava, Brahma, and Shakta tirthas being declared.

Verse 28 (skanda.5.386.28)

अष्टविंशतितीर्थानि वैष्णवान्यब्रवीन्मुनिः। तेषु वाराहतीर्थानि षडेव मुनिसत्तमाः।

aṣṭaviṁśatitīrthāni vaiṣṇavānyabravīnmuniḥ| teṣu vārāhatīrthāni ṣaḍeva munisattamāḥ||

The sage declared twenty-eight Vaishnava tirthas; among them, O best of sages, just six are Varaha tirthas.

Verse 29 (skanda.5.386.29)

चत्वारि चक्रतीर्थानि शेषाण्यष्टादशैव हि। विष्णुनाधिष्ठितान्येव प्राह पूर्वं मृकण्डजः।

catvāri cakratīrthāni śeṣāṇyaṣṭādaśaiva hi| viṣṇunādhiṣṭhitānyeva prāha pūrvaṁ mṛkaṇḍajaḥ||

Four are Chakra-tirthas, and the remaining eighteen are presided over by Vishnu himself — thus the son of Mrikandu declared formerly.

Verse 30 (skanda.5.386.30)

तथैव ब्रह्मणा सिद्ध्यै सप्ततीर्थान्यवीवदत्। त्रिषु च ब्रह्मणः पूजा ब्रह्मेशाश्चतुरोऽपरे। अष्टाविंशन्मया ख्याता यथासङ्ख्यं यथाक्रमम्।

tathaiva brahmaṇā siddhyai saptatīrthānyavīvadat| triṣu ca brahmaṇaḥ pūjā brahmeśāścaturo'pare| aṣṭāviṁśanmayā khyātā yathāsaṅkhyaṁ yathākramam||

And likewise he declared seven tirthas established by Brahma for the sake of accomplishment; in three of them there is worship of Brahma, and the other four are called Brahmeshas; thus twenty-eight have been declared by me, according to their number and in due order.

Verse 31 (skanda.5.386.31)

एतत्पवित्रमतुलं ह्येतत्पापहरं परम्। नर्मदाचरितं पुण्यं माहात्म्यं मुनिभाषितम्।

etatpavitramatulaṁ hyetatpāpaharaṁ param| narmadācaritaṁ puṇyaṁ māhātmyaṁ munibhāṣitam||

This is a matchless purifier, this is a supreme remover of sin — this holy "Narmada-charita," the greatness spoken by the sage.

Verse 32 (skanda.5.386.32)

सूत उवाच। एवमुद्देशतः प्रोक्तो रेवातीर्थक्रमो मया। यथा पार्थाय संक्षेपान्मार्कण्डो मुनिरब्रवीत्।

sūta uvāca| evamuddeśataḥ prokto revātīrthakramo mayā| yathā pārthāya saṁkṣepānmārkaṇḍo munirabravīt||

Suta said: Thus, in summary outline, the sequence of the tirthas of the Reva has been told by me, just as the sage Markandeya declared it in brief to Partha.

Verse 33 (skanda.5.386.33)

अवान्तराणि तीर्थानि तेषु गुप्तान्यनेकशः। यत्र यावत्प्रमाणानि तान्याकर्णयतानघाः।

avāntarāṇi tīrthāni teṣu guptānyanekaśaḥ| yatra yāvatpramāṇāni tānyākarṇayatānaghāḥ||

O sinless ones, among them there are also many hidden subordinate tirthas, in great numbers; hear how many there are in each place.

Verse 34 (skanda.5.386.34)

ओङ्कारतीर्थपरितः पर्वतादमरकण्टात्। क्रोशद्वये सर्वदिक्षु सार्धकोटीत्रयी मता।

oṅkāratīrthaparitaḥ parvatādamarakaṇṭāt| krośadvaye sarvadikṣu sārdhakoṭītrayī matā||

Around the tirtha of Omkara, from the mountain Amarakantaka, within a radius of two kroshas in all directions, three and a half crores of tirthas are reckoned to exist.

Verse 35 (skanda.5.386.35)

तीर्थानां संख्यया गुप्तप्रकटानां द्विजोत्तमाः। कोटिरेका तु तीर्थानां कपिलासङ्गमे पृथक्।

tīrthānāṁ saṁkhyayā guptaprakaṭānāṁ dvijottamāḥ| koṭirekā tu tīrthānāṁ kapilāsaṅgame pṛthak||

O best of the twice-born, that is the number of tirthas, both hidden and manifest; and separately, at the confluence with the Kapila, there is one full crore of tirthas.

Verse 36 (skanda.5.386.36)

अशोकवनिकायाश्च तीर्थं लक्षं प्रतिष्ठितम्। शतमं गारगर्तायाः सङ्गमे मुनिसत्तमाः।

aśokavanikāyāśca tīrthaṁ lakṣaṁ pratiṣṭhitam| śatamaṁ gāragartāyāḥ saṅgame munisattamāḥ||

At Ashokavanika, a hundred thousand tirthas are established; O best of sages, at the confluence with the Angaragarta, a hundred more.

Verse 37 (skanda.5.386.37)

तीर्थानामयुतं तद्वत्कुब्जायाः सङ्गमे स्थितम्। शतं हिरण्यगर्भायाः सङ्गमे समवस्थितम्।

tīrthānāmayutaṁ tadvatkubjāyāḥ saṅgame sthitam| śataṁ hiraṇyagarbhāyāḥ saṅgame samavasthitam||

Likewise, ten thousand tirthas are situated at the confluence with the Kubja; a hundred are situated at the confluence with the Hiranyagarbha.

Verse 38 (skanda.5.386.38)

तीर्थानामष्टषष्टिश्च विशोकासङ्गमे स्थिता। तथा सहस्रं तीर्थानां संस्थितं वागुसङ्गमे।

tīrthānāmaṣṭaṣaṣṭiśca viśokāsaṅgame sthitā| tathā sahasraṁ tīrthānāṁ saṁsthitaṁ vāgusaṅgame||

Sixty-eight tirthas are situated at the confluence with the Vishoka; and likewise a thousand tirthas are situated at the confluence with the Vagu.

Verse 39 (skanda.5.386.39)

शतं सरस्वतीसङ्गे शुक्लतीर्थे शतद्वयम्। सहस्रं विष्णुतीर्थेषु महिष्मत्यामथायुतम्।

śataṁ sarasvatīsaṅge śuklatīrthe śatadvayam| sahasraṁ viṣṇutīrtheṣu mahiṣmatyāmathāyutam||

A hundred at the confluence with the Sarasvati, two hundred at the Shukla tirtha, a thousand among the Vishnu tirthas, and ten thousand at Mahishmati.

Verse 40 (skanda.5.386.40)

शूलभेदे च तीर्थानां साग्रं लक्षं स्थितं द्विजाः। देवग्रामे सहस्रं च तीर्थानां मुनिरब्रवीत्।

śūlabhede ca tīrthānāṁ sāgraṁ lakṣaṁ sthitaṁ dvijāḥ| devagrāme sahasraṁ ca tīrthānāṁ munirabravīt||

O brahmins, at Shulabheda, more than a hundred thousand tirthas are situated — so the sage declared; and a thousand at Devagrama.

Verse 41 (skanda.5.386.41)

लुङ्केश्वरे च तीर्थानां साग्रा सप्तशती स्थिता। तीर्थान्यष्टोत्तरशतं मणिनद्याश्च सङ्गमे। वैद्यनाथे च तीर्थानां शतमष्टाधिकं विदुः।

luṅkeśvare ca tīrthānāṁ sāgrā saptaśatī sthitā| tīrthānyaṣṭottaraśataṁ maṇinadyāśca saṅgame| vaidyanāthe ca tīrthānāṁ śatamaṣṭādhikaṁ viduḥ||

At Lunkeshvara, more than seven hundred tirthas are situated; one hundred and eight tirthas at the confluence with the Mani river; and at Vaidyanatha, a hundred and eight tirthas are known.

Verse 42 (skanda.5.386.42)

एवं तावत्प्रमाणानि तीर्थे कुम्भेश्वरे द्विजाः। साग्रं लक्षं च तीर्थानां स्थितं रेवोरसङ्गमे।

evaṁ tāvatpramāṇāni tīrthe kumbheśvare dvijāḥ| sāgraṁ lakṣaṁ ca tīrthānāṁ sthitaṁ revorasaṅgame||

O brahmins, thus such are the measures at the tirtha of Kumbheshvara; and more than a hundred thousand tirthas are situated at the confluence of the Reva and the Ori.

Verse 43 (skanda.5.386.43)

ततश्चाप्यधिकानि स्युरिति मार्कण्डभाषितम्। अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि व्यासद्वीपाश्रितानि च।

tataścāpyadhikāni syuriti mārkaṇḍabhāṣitam| aṣṭāśītisahasrāṇi vyāsadvīpāśritāni ca||

And there may be even more than that — so spoke Markandeya; and eighty-eight thousand are situated at Vyasadvipa.

Verse 44 (skanda.5.386.44)

सङ्गमे च करञ्जायाः स्थितमष्टोत्तरायुतम्। एरण्डीसङ्गमे तद्वत्तीर्थान्यष्टाधिकं शतम्।

saṅgame ca karañjāyāḥ sthitamaṣṭottarāyutam| eraṇḍīsaṅgame tadvattīrthānyaṣṭādhikaṁ śatam||

At the confluence with the Karanja, ten thousand and eight are situated; likewise, at the confluence with the Erandi, a hundred and eight tirthas.

Verse 45 (skanda.5.386.45)

धूतपापे च तीर्थानां षष्टिरष्टाधिका स्थिता। स्कन्दतीर्थे शतं पुण्यं तीर्थानां मुनिरुक्तवान्।

dhūtapāpe ca tīrthānāṁ ṣaṣṭiraṣṭādhikā sthitā| skandatīrthe śataṁ puṇyaṁ tīrthānāṁ muniruktavān||

At Dhutapapa, sixty-eight tirthas are situated; at the Skanda tirtha, a hundred holy tirthas — so the sage said.

Verse 46 (skanda.5.386.46)

कोहनेश च तीर्थानां षष्टिरष्टाधिका स्थिता। सार्धकोटी च तीर्थानां स्थिता वै कोरिलापुरे।

kohaneśa ca tīrthānāṁ ṣaṣṭiraṣṭādhikā sthitā| sārdhakoṭī ca tīrthānāṁ sthitā vai korilāpure||

At Kohanesha, sixty-eight tirthas are situated; and three and a half crores of tirthas are situated at Korilapura.

Verse 47 (skanda.5.386.47)

रामकेशवतीर्थे च सहस्रं साग्रमुक्तवान्। अस्माहके सहस्रं च तीर्थानि निवसन्ति हि।

rāmakeśavatīrthe ca sahasraṁ sāgramuktavān| asmāhake sahasraṁ ca tīrthāni nivasanti hi||

At the Rama-Keshava tirtha, more than a thousand were declared; and a thousand tirthas dwell at Asmahaka too.

Verse 48 (skanda.5.386.48)

लक्षाष्टकं सहस्रे द्वे शुक्लतीर्थे द्विजोत्तमाः। तीर्थानि कथयामास पुरा पार्थाय भार्गवः।

lakṣāṣṭakaṁ sahasre dve śuklatīrthe dvijottamāḥ| tīrthāni kathayāmāsa purā pārthāya bhārgavaḥ||

O best of the twice-born, at the Shukla tirtha there are eight hundred and two thousand tirthas — this the descendant of Bhrigu formerly told to Partha.

Verse 49 (skanda.5.386.49)

शतमष्टाधिकं प्राह प्रत्येकं सङ्गमेषु च। नदीनामवशिष्टानां कावेरीसङ्गमं विना।

śatamaṣṭādhikaṁ prāha pratyekaṁ saṅgameṣu ca| nadīnāmavaśiṣṭānāṁ kāverīsaṅgamaṁ vinā||

He declared a hundred and eight at each of the confluences of the remaining rivers, excepting the confluence with the Kaveri.

Verse 50 (skanda.5.386.50)

कावेर्याः सङ्गमे विप्राः स्थिता पञ्चशती तथा। तीर्थानां पर्वसु तथा विशेषो मुनिनोदितः।

kāveryāḥ saṅgame viprāḥ sthitā pañcaśatī tathā| tīrthānāṁ parvasu tathā viśeṣo muninoditaḥ||

O brahmins, five hundred are situated at the confluence with the Kaveri; and a special merit regarding the tirthas on the sacred parvan days was declared by the sage.

Verse 51 (skanda.5.386.51)

मोक्षतीर्थं हि सत्प्राहुः पुराणपुरुषाश्रितम्। भृगोः क्षेत्रे च तीर्थानां कोटिरेका समाश्रिता।

mokṣatīrthaṁ hi satprāhuḥ purāṇapuruṣāśritam| bhṛgoḥ kṣetre ca tīrthānāṁ koṭirekā samāśritā||

The virtuous indeed declare the Moksha tirtha to be the abode of the Primeval Being; and at the field of Bhrigu, a full crore of tirthas reside.

Verse 52 (skanda.5.386.52)

साधिकानामृषिश्रेष्ठा वक्तुं शक्तो हि को भवेत्। सर्वामराश्रयं प्रोक्तं सर्वतीर्थाश्रयं तथा।

sādhikānāmṛṣiśreṣṭhā vaktuṁ śakto hi ko bhavet| sarvāmarāśrayaṁ proktaṁ sarvatīrthāśrayaṁ tathā||

O best of sages, who indeed could be capable of telling of even more than these? It is declared to be the refuge of all the gods, and likewise the refuge of all tirthas.

Verse 53 (skanda.5.386.53)

त्रिषु लोकेषु विख्यातं पूजितं सिद्धिसाधनम्। भारभूत्यां च तीर्थानां स्थितमष्टोत्तरं शतम्।

triṣu lokeṣu vikhyātaṁ pūjitaṁ siddhisādhanam| bhārabhūtyāṁ ca tīrthānāṁ sthitamaṣṭottaraṁ śatam||

Renowned in the three worlds, worshipped, a means of attaining perfection; and at Bharabhuti, a hundred and eight tirthas are situated.

Verse 54 (skanda.5.386.54)

अक्रूरेश्वरतीर्थे च सार्धं तीर्थशतं स्थितम्। विमलेश्वरतीर्थे तु रेवासागरसङ्गमे। दशायुतानि तीर्थानां साधिकान्यब्रवीन्मुनिः।

akrūreśvaratīrthe ca sārdhaṁ tīrthaśataṁ sthitam| vimaleśvaratīrthe tu revāsāgarasaṅgame| daśāyutāni tīrthānāṁ sādhikānyabravīnmuniḥ||

At the tirtha of Akrureshvara, a hundred and fifty tirthas are situated; and at the tirtha of Vimaleshvara, at the confluence of the Reva and the ocean, the sage declared there to be a hundred thousand tirthas and more.
