The Glory of Chitreshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.142.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि चित्रेश्वरमनुत्तमम्। धनुषां सप्तके तस्य स्थितमाग्नेयदक्षिणे

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi citreśvaramanuttamam| dhanuṣāṁ saptake tasya sthitamāgneyadakṣiṇe

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the incomparable Chitreshvara, situated at a distance of seven bow-lengths to the south-east of that place.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.142.2)

लिंगं महाप्रभावं हि सर्वपातकनाशनम्। तत्र चित्रेश्वरं पूज्य नरकान्न भवेद्भयम्

liṁgaṁ mahāprabhāvaṁ hi sarvapātakanāśanam| tatra citreśvaraṁ pūjya narakānna bhavedbhayam

That linga is of great power, destroying all sins; having worshipped Chitreshvara there, one has no fear of hell.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.142.3)

पटस्थितं तस्य पापं चित्रो मार्जयति प्रिये। तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन चित्रेशं पूजयेत्सदा। यः स्यात्पापयुतो वापि नरकं नैव पश्यति

paṭasthitaṁ tasya pāpaṁ citro mārjayati priye| tasmātsarvaprayatnena citreśaṁ pūjayetsadā| yaḥ syātpāpayuto vāpi narakaṁ naiva paśyati

O beloved, Chitra wipes away the sin recorded on his tablet; therefore one should always worship Chitresha with utmost effort; whoever does so, even if laden with sin, never beholds hell.
