The Glory of Pushkara-kunda

Verse 1 (skanda.7.144.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तृतीयं पुष्करं महत्। तस्यैव पूर्वदिग्भागे किञ्चिदीशानगोचरे। कनीयः संस्मृतं कुंडं पुष्करं नाम नामतः

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tṛtīyaṁ puṣkaraṁ mahat| tasyaiva pūrvadigbhāge kiñcidīśānagocare| kanīyaḥ saṁsmṛtaṁ kuṁḍaṁ puṣkaraṁ nāma nāmataḥ

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to that great third Pushkara, in the eastern portion of that very place, somewhat toward the north-east — a smaller pond, remembered by the very name Pushkara.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.144.2)

यत्र मध्याह्नसमये ब्रह्मणा समुपासिता। सन्ध्या त्रैलोक्यजननी प्रतिष्ठार्थं गतेन च

yatra madhyāhnasamaye brahmaṇā samupāsitā| sandhyā trailokyajananī pratiṣṭhārthaṁ gatena ca

where, at the time of midday, Brahma, who had gone there for the sake of establishing it, worshipped Sandhya, the mother of the three worlds.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.144.3)

तत्र यः कुरुते स्नानं पौर्णमास्यां समाहितः। सम्यक्कृतं भवेत्तेन स्नानं तत्रादिपुष्करे

tatra yaḥ kurute snānaṁ paurṇamāsyāṁ samāhitaḥ| samyakkṛtaṁ bhavettena snānaṁ tatrādipuṣkare

Whoever, with concentrated mind, bathes there on the full-moon day, by him is bathing rightly accomplished, as if in the primal Pushkara itself.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.144.4)

हिरण्यं तत्र दातव्यं सर्वपापापनुत्तये

hiraṇyaṁ tatra dātavyaṁ sarvapāpāpanuttaye

Gold should be given there for the removal of all sins.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.144.5)

इति संक्षेपतः प्रोक्तं माहात्म्यं तव पौष्करम्। श्रुतं पापहरं नॄणां सर्वकामप्रदं तथा

iti saṁkṣepataḥ proktaṁ māhātmyaṁ tava pauṣkaram| śrutaṁ pāpaharaṁ nṝṇāṁ sarvakāmapradaṁ tathā

Thus has the glory of Pushkara been told to you in brief; when heard, it removes the sins of men and likewise grants all desires.
