Prabhasa Khanda · Chapter 154
The Glory of Gayatrishvara
Verse 1 (skanda.7.154.1)
īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi liṅgaṁ pāpavimocanam| hiraṇyeśvaravāyavye dhanuṣāṁ tritaye sthitam
Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the sin-liberating linga situated to the northwest of Hiranyeshvara, at a distance of three bow-lengths.
Verse 2 (skanda.7.154.2)
pāpaghnaṁ sarvajaṁtūnāṁ darśanātsparśanādapi| ādyaṁ liṅgaṁ mahādevi gāyatryā saṁpratiṣṭhitam
It destroys the sins of all creatures merely by sight or touch; O great Goddess, that primal linga was established by Gayatri herself.
Verse 3 (skanda.7.154.3)
talliṅgaṁ samanuprāpya gāyatrīṁ japate tu yaḥ| brāhmaṇastu śucirbhūtvā mucyate duṣpratigrahāt
Whatever brahmin, having reached that linga, becomes pure and recites the Gayatri, is freed from the sin of accepting improper gifts.
Verse 4 (skanda.7.154.4)
jyeṣṭhasya pūrṇimāyāṁ tu daṁpatī yastu bhojayet| paridhāpya yathāśaktyā daurbhāgyairmucyate naraḥ
On the full moon of the month of Jyeshtha, whatever man feeds a married couple and clothes them according to his means is freed from misfortune.
Verse 5 (skanda.7.154.5)
gaṁdhapuṣpopahāraiśca paurṇamāsyāṁ tu yo'rcayet| brāhmaṇyaṁ jāyate tasya sapta janmāni suṁdari
O beautiful one, whoever worships him with offerings of fragrance and flowers on the full moon day is born a brahmin for seven lives.
Verse 6 (skanda.7.154.6)
ityevaṁ kathitaṁ devi māhātmyaṁ pāpanāśanam| brahmakuṇḍaprasādena sārātsārataraṁ priye
Thus, O Goddess, by the grace of Brahmakunda, has this sin-destroying glory been told — the essence of essences, O beloved.
