The Glory of Anangeshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.158.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि अनंगेश्वरमुत्तमम्। रत्नेश्वरादग्रतःस्थं धनुषान्तरमास्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi anaṁgeśvaramuttamam| ratneśvarādagrataḥsthaṁ dhanuṣāntaramāsthitam

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the excellent Anangeshvara, situated one bow-length ahead of Ratneshvara.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.158.2)

स्थापितं कामदेवेन तल्लिंगं विष्णुसूनुना। ज्ञात्वा तद्वैष्णवं स्थानं कलौ पातकनाशनम्

sthāpitaṁ kāmadevena talliṅgaṁ viṣṇusūnunā| jñātvā tadvaiṣṇavaṁ sthānaṁ kalau pātakanāśanam

That linga was established there by Kamadeva, son of Vishnu, who recognized it as a Vaishnava site — a destroyer of sin in the Kali age.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.158.3)

तं दृष्ट्वा पूजयित्वा तु कामदेवसमो भवेत्। स्वर्गविद्याधरीणां च जायते चित्तमोहकः

taṁ dṛṣṭvā pūjayitvā tu kāmadevasamo bhavet| svargavidyādharīṇāṁ ca jāyate cittamohakaḥ

Whoever beholds and worships him becomes equal to Kamadeva, and becomes one who enchants the hearts of the heavenly Vidyadhari women.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.158.4)

तस्यान्वयेऽपि न भवेत्कुरूपो दुर्भगोऽपि वा

tasyānvaye'pi na bhavetkurūpo durbhago'pi vā

Even in his lineage no one is born ill-formed or unfortunate.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.158.5)

तत्रानंगत्रयोदश्यां व्रतेन वरवर्णिनि। विशेषाराधनं तत्र जन्मसाफल्यकारणम्

tatrānaṁgatrayodaśyāṁ vratena varavarṇini| viśeṣārādhanaṁ tatra janmasāphalyakāraṇam

O fair one, special worship there with the observance of the vow on Ananga-trayodashi is the cause of a fruitful birth.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.158.6)

शय्यादानं तु दातव्यं तत्र विप्राय शीलिने। विशेषाद्विष्णुभक्ताय सम्यग्यात्राफलं लभेत्

śayyādānaṁ tu dātavyaṁ tatra viprāya śīline| viśeṣādviṣṇubhaktāya samyagyātrāphalaṁ labhet

One should give the gift of a bed there to a virtuous brahmin, especially to a devotee of Vishnu; by this one obtains the full fruit of the pilgrimage.
