The Goddess's Question

Verse 1 (skanda.7.3.1)

ऋषय ऊचुः। कथितो भवता सर्गः प्रतिसर्गस्तथैव च। वंशानुवंशचरितं पुराणानामनुक्रमः

ṛṣaya ūcuḥ| kathito bhavatā sargaḥ pratisargastathaiva ca| vaṁśānuvaṁśacaritaṁ purāṇānāmanukramaḥ

The sages said: You have told us of the primary creation, the secondary creation, the account of the dynasties, and the order of the Puranas.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.3.2)

मन्वन्तरप्रमाणं च ब्रह्मांडस्य च विस्तरः। ज्योतिश्चक्रस्वरूपं च यथावदनुवर्णितम्। श्रोतुमिच्छामहे त्वत्तः सांप्रतं तीर्थविस्तरम्

manvaṁtarapramāṇaṁ ca brahmāṁḍasya ca vistaraḥ| jyotiścakrasvarūpaṁ ca yathāvadanuvarṇitam| śrotumicchāmahe tvattaḥ sāṁprataṁ tīrthavistaram

You have duly described the measure of the Manvantaras, the extent of the cosmic egg, and the nature of the wheel of the constellations; now we wish to hear from you of the extent of the sacred tirthas.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.3.3)

पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि पापघ्नानि शुभानि च। तानि सूतज कार्त्स्न्येन यथावद्वक्तुमर्हसि

pṛthivyāṁ yāni tīrthāni pāpaghnāni śubhāni ca| tāni sūtaja kārtsnyena yathāvadvaktumarhasi

O son of Suta, you should duly and fully tell us of the tirthas upon the earth that destroy sin and bring auspiciousness.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.3.4)

सूत उवाच। इदं पृष्टं पुरा देव्या कैलासशिखरोत्तमे। नानाधातुविचित्रांगे नानारत्नसमन्विते

sūta uvāca| idaṁ pṛṣṭaṁ purā devyā kailāsaśikharottame| nānādhātuvicitrāṁge nānāratnasamanvite

Suta said: This very question was once asked by the Goddess upon the finest peak of Kailasa, adorned with the colors of many minerals and set with manifold gems,

Verse 5 (skanda.7.3.5)

नानाद्रुमलताकीर्णे नानापुष्पोपशोभिते। यक्षविद्याधराकीर्णे ह्यप्सरोगणसेविते

nānādrumalatākīrṇe nānāpuṣpopaśobhite| yakṣavidyādharākīrṇe hyapsarogaṇasevite

filled with various trees and creepers, adorned with many flowers, thronged with yakshas and vidyadharas, and attended by hosts of apsaras,

Verse 6 (skanda.7.3.6)

तत्र ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च स्कन्दनन्दिगणेश्वराः। चंद्रादित्यौ ग्रहैः सार्धं नक्षत्रध्रुवमण्डलम्

tatra brahmā ca viṣṇuśca skandanaṁdigaṇeśvarāḥ| caṁdrādityau grahaiḥ sārdhaṁ nakṣatradhruvamaṇḍalam

there were present Brahma and Vishnu, Skanda, Nandi, and the lords of the ganas, the Moon and Sun together with the planets, and the circle of the constellations and the pole-star,

Verse 7 (skanda.7.3.7)

वायुश्च वरुणश्चैव कुबेरो धनदस्तथा। ईशानश्चाग्निरिंद्रश्च यमो निर्ऋतिरेव च

vāyuśca varuṇaścaiva kubero dhanadastathā| īśānaścāgniriṁdraśca yamo nirṛtireva ca

Vayu and Varuna, Kubera the giver of wealth, Ishana, Agni, Indra, Yama, and Nirriti,

Verse 8 (skanda.7.3.8)

सरितः सागराः सर्वे पर्वता उरगास्तथा। ब्राह्म्याद्या मातरश्चैव ऋषयश्च तपोधनाः

saritaḥ sāgarāḥ sarve parvatā uragāstathā| brāhmyādyā mātaraścaiva ṛṣayaśca tapodhanāḥ

all the rivers, the oceans, the mountains, the serpents, the mother-goddesses beginning with Brahmi, and the sages rich in austerity,

Verse 9 (skanda.7.3.9)

मूर्तिमंति च तीर्थानि क्षेत्राण्यायतनानि च। दानवासुरदैत्याश्च पिशाचा भूतराक्षसाः

mūrtimaṁti ca tīrthāni kṣetrāṇyāyatanāni ca| dānavāsuradaityāśca piśācā bhūtarākṣasāḥ

the sacred tirthas, fields, and shrines themselves in embodied form, and the danavas, asuras, daityas, pishachas, bhutas, and rakshasas as well.

Verse 10 (skanda.7.3.10)

तत्र सिंहासनं दिव्यं शतयोजनविस्तृतम्

tatra siṁhāsanaṁ divyaṁ śatayojanavistṛtam

There stood a divine throne, a hundred yojanas in extent.

Verse 11 (skanda.7.3.11)

लक्षायुतसहस्रैश्च रुद्रकोटिभिरावृतम्। तन्मध्ये सर्वतोभद्रं सिंहद्वारैः सुतोरणैः

lakṣāyutasahasraiśca rudrakoṭibhirāvṛtam| tanmadhye sarvatobhadraṁ siṁhadvāraiḥ sutoraṇaiḥ

It was surrounded by hundreds of thousands and by crores of Rudras; in its midst was an all-auspicious hall with lion-gates and fine festooned archways.

Verse 12 (skanda.7.3.12)

स्वच्छमौक्तिकसंकाशं प्राकारशिखरावृतम्। नन्दीश्वरमहाकालद्वारपालगणैर्वृतम्

svacchamauktikasaṁkāśaṁ prākāraśikharāvṛtam| naṁdīśvaramahākāladvārapālagaṇairvṛtam

It gleamed like pure pearls, was ringed by the towers of its ramparts, and was guarded by hosts of doorkeepers such as Nandishvara and Mahakala.

Verse 13 (skanda.7.3.13)

किंकिणीजालमुखरैः सत्यताकैरलंकृतम्। वितानच्छत्रखंडैश्च मुक्तादामप्रलंबितैः

kiṁkiṇījālamukharaiḥ satyatākairalaṁkṛtam| vitānacchatrakhaṁḍaiśca muktādāmapralaṁbitaiḥ

It resounded with nets of tiny bells, was decked with banners of truth, and adorned with canopies and parasol-sections hung with strings of pearls.

Verse 14 (skanda.7.3.14)

घंटाचामरशोभाढयैर्दर्पणैश्चोपशोभितम्। कलशैर्द्वारविन्यस्तरत्नपल्लवसंयुतैः

ghaṁṭācāmaraśobhāḍhyairdarpaṇaiścopaśobhitam| kalaśairdvāravinyastaratnapallavasaṁyutaiḥ

It was beautified with the splendor of bells and yak-tail whisks, adorned with mirrors, and fitted with vases set at the gates bearing jeweled sprays of leaves.

Verse 15 (skanda.7.3.15)

चित्रितं चित्रशास्त्रज्ञै रत्नचूर्णैः समुज्ज्वलैः। स्वस्तिकैः पत्रवल्याद्यैर्लिंगोद्भवलतादिभिः

citritaṁ citraśāstrajñai ratnacūrṇaiḥ samujjvalaiḥ| svastikaiḥ patravalyādyairliṁgodbhavalatādibhiḥ

It was painted by masters of the pictorial arts with brilliant powdered gems, and adorned with svastika-designs, leaf-and-vine motifs, and scenes of the Linga's emergence.

Verse 16 (skanda.7.3.16)

शतसिंहासनाकीर्णं वेदिकाभिश्च शोभितम्। आसीनै रुद्रवृन्दैश्च रुद्रकन्याकदम्बकैः

śatasiṁhāsanākīrṇaṁ vedikābhiśca śobhitam| āsīnai rudravṛndaiśca rudrakanyākadaṁbakaiḥ

It was filled with hundreds of thrones and adorned with altars, upon which sat throngs of Rudras and clusters of Rudra's daughters.

Verse 17 (skanda.7.3.17)

लक्षपत्रदलाढ्यैश्च श्वेतपद्मैश्च भूषितम्। अप्सरोभिः समाकीर्णं पुष्पप्रकरविस्तृतम्

lakṣapatradalāḍhyaiśca śvetapadmaiśca bhūṣitam| apsarobhiḥ samākīrṇaṁ puṣpaprakaravistṛtam

It was beautified with white lotuses of a hundred thousand petals, thronged with apsaras, and strewn wide with heaps of flowers.

Verse 18 (skanda.7.3.18)

धूपितं धूपवर्त्तीभिः कुंकुमोदकसेचितम्। वंशवीणामृदंगैश्च गोमुखैर्मुखवादनैः

dhūpitaṁ dhūpavartībhiḥ kuṁkumodakasecitam| vaṁśavīṇāmṛdaṁgaiśca gomukhairmukhavādanaiḥ

It was perfumed with incense sticks, sprinkled with saffron-water, and filled with the sound of flutes, veenas, mridangas, and gomukha horns and other wind instruments.

Verse 19 (skanda.7.3.19)

शंखभेरीनिनादेन दुन्दुभिध्वनितेन च। गर्जद्भिर्गणवृन्दैश्च मेघस्वनितनिस्वनैः

śaṁkhabherīninādena duṁdubhidhvanitena ca| garjadbhirgaṇavṛndaiśca meghasvanitanisvanaiḥ

resounding with the blare of conches and kettledrums, the roll of war-drums, the roaring of the hosts of ganas, and echoes like the rumble of thunderclouds,

Verse 20 (skanda.7.3.20)

गणानां स्तोत्रशब्देन सामवेदरवेण च। प्रेक्षणीयैर्महानादैर्गेयहुङ्कारशोभितम्

gaṇānāṁ stotraśabdena sāmavedaraveṇa ca| prekṣaṇīyairmahānādairgeyahuṅkāraśobhitam

beautified by the sound of the ganas' hymns, the chanting of the Samaveda, magnificent resounding cries worth beholding, and the hum of song,

Verse 21 (skanda.7.3.21)

वृषनर्दितशब्देन गजवाजिरवेण च। कांचीनूपुरशब्देन समाकीर्णदिगंतरम्

vṛṣanarditaśabdena gajavājiraveṇa ca| kāṁcīnūpuraśabdena samākīrṇadigaṁtaram

and the space between the directions was filled with the bellowing of the bull, the trumpeting of elephants and neighing of horses, and the tinkling of girdles and anklets.

Verse 22 (skanda.7.3.22)

सर्वसंपत्करं श्रीमच्छंकरस्यैव मंदिरम्। वंश वीणामृदंगैश्च नादितं तत्र तत्र ह। ऋग्वेदो मूर्तिमांश्चैव शक्रनीलसमद्युतिः

sarvasaṁpatkaraṁ śrīmacchaṁkarasyaiva maṁdiram| vaṁśa vīṇāmṛdaṁgaiśca nāditaṁ tatra tatra ha| ṛgvedo mūrtimāṁścaiva śakranīlasamadyutiḥ

It was the glorious abode of Shankara himself, granter of every prosperity, resounding everywhere with flute, veena, and mridanga. There the Rigveda stood present in embodied form, its radiance like that of sapphire,

Verse 23 (skanda.7.3.23)

दिव्यगन्धानुलिप्तांगो दिव्याभरणभूषितः। संस्थितः पूर्वतस्तस्य दीप्यमानः स्वतेजसा

divyagaṁdhānuliptāṁgo divyābharaṇabhūṣitaḥ| saṁsthitaḥ pūrvatastasya dīpyamānaḥ svatejasā

its body anointed with divine fragrances, adorned with celestial ornaments, blazing with its own radiance, it stood positioned to the east of that throne.

Verse 24 (skanda.7.3.24)

उत्तरेण यजुर्वेदः शुद्धस्फटिकसन्निभः। दिव्यकुण्डलधारी च महाकायो महाभुजः

uttareṇa yajurvedaḥ śuddhasphaṭikasannibhaḥ| divyakuṇḍaladhārī ca mahākāyo mahābhujaḥ

To the north stood the Yajurveda, resembling pure crystal, wearing divine earrings, of massive frame and mighty arms.

Verse 25 (skanda.7.3.25)

स्थितः पश्चिम दिग्भागे सामवेदः सनातनः। रक्तांबरधरः श्रीमान्पद्मरागसमप्रभः

sthitaḥ paścima digbhāge sāmavedaḥ sanātanaḥ| raktāṁbaradharaḥ śrīmānpadmarāgasamaprabhaḥ

In the western quarter stood the eternal Samaveda, clad in red garments, glorious, and radiant like the ruby.

Verse 26 (skanda.7.3.26)

स्रग्दामधारी चित्रश्च गीतभूषणभूषितः। अथवाऽञ्जनवच्छयामः स्थितो दक्षिणतस्तथा

sragdāmadhārī citraśca gītabhūṣaṇabhūṣitaḥ| athavā'ñjanavacchyāmaḥ sthito dakṣiṇatastathā

Wearing garlands, resplendent and adorned with the ornaments of song, and dark as collyrium, thus stood the fourth Veda to the south.

Verse 27 (skanda.7.3.27)

पिंगाक्षो लोहितग्रीवो हरिकेशो महातनुः। इतिहासषडंगानि पुराणान्यखिलानि च

piṁgākṣo lohitagrīvo harikeśo mahātanuḥ| itihāsaṣaḍaṁgāni purāṇānyakhilāni ca

Tawny-eyed, red-throated, golden-haired, and vast of frame — and the Itihasas, the six Vedangas, and all the Puranas besides,

Verse 28 (skanda.7.3.28)

वेदोपनिषदश्छन्दो मीमांसारण्यकं तथा। स्वाहाकारवषट्कारौ रहस्यानि तथैव च

vedopaniṣadaśchando mīmāṁsāraṇyakaṁ tathā| svāhākāravaṣaṭkārau rahasyāni tathaiva ca

the Vedas, the Upanishads, prosody, the Mimamsa, and the Aranyakas, together with the invocations Svaha and Vashat, and the esoteric texts as well,

Verse 29 (skanda.7.3.29)

एतैः समन्वितैश्चैव तत्र ब्रह्मा स्वयं स्थितः। शक्तिरूपधरैर्मन्त्रैर्योगैश्वर्यसमन्वितैः

etaiḥ samanvitaiścaiva tatra brahmā svayaṁ sthitaḥ| śaktirūpadharairmantrairyogaiśvaryasamanvitaiḥ

Attended by all of these — joined too with mantras embodying the divine power and endowed with the majesty of yoga — Brahma himself sat there present.

Verse 30 (skanda.7.3.30)

सहस्रपत्रकमलैरंकितैः सुरपूजितैः। पूजितैर्गणरुद्रैश्च ब्रह्मविष्विंद्रवंदितैः

sahasrapatrakamalairaṁkitaiḥ surapūjitaiḥ| pūjitairgaṇarudraiśca brahmaviṣviṁdravaṁditaiḥ

Marked by thousand-petaled lotuses, worshipped by the gods, honored by the ganas and Rudras, and revered by Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra.

Verse 31 (skanda.7.3.31)

चामराक्षेपव्यजनैर्वीजितैश्च समन्ततः। शोभितश्च सदा श्रीमांश्चंद्रकोटिसमप्रभः

cāmarākṣepavyajanairvījitaiśca samaṁtataḥ| śobhitaśca sadā śrīmāṁścaṁdrakoṭisamaprabhaḥ

Fanned on every side with the waving of chowries and hand-fans, ever resplendent and glorious, radiant as a crore of moons.

Verse 32 (skanda.7.3.32)

ज्ञानामृतसुतृप्तात्मा योगैश्वर्यप्रसादकः। योगींद्रमानसांभोज राजहंसो द्विजोत्तमः

jñānāmṛtasutṛptātmā yogaiśvaryaprasādakaḥ| yogīṁdramānasāṁbhoja rājahaṁso dvijottamaḥ

His self fully satisfied by the nectar of knowledge, bestower of the majesty of yoga, the royal swan upon the mind-lake of the lords of yoga, foremost among the twice-born.

Verse 33 (skanda.7.3.33)

अज्ञानतिमिरध्वंसी षट्त्रिंशत्तत्त्वभूषणः। सर्वसौख्यप्रदाता च तत्रास्ते चंद्रशेखरः

ajñānatimiradhvaṁsī ṣaṭtriṁśattattvabhūṣaṇaḥ| sarvasaukhyapradātā ca tatrāste caṁdraśekharaḥ

There, dispelling the darkness of ignorance, adorned with the thirty-six tattvas, and bestowing all happiness, sat Chandrashekhara.

Verse 34 (skanda.7.3.34)

तस्योत्संगगता देवी तप्तकांचनसप्रभा। पूजितो योगिनीवृन्दैः साधकैः सुरकिन्नरैः

tasyotsaṁgagatā devī taptakāṁcanasaprabhā| pūjito yoginīvṛndaiḥ sādhakaiḥ surakinnaraiḥ

Seated in his lap was the Goddess, radiant as molten gold, worshipped by throngs of yoginis, by spiritual seekers, and by gods and kinnaras.

Verse 35 (skanda.7.3.35)

सर्वलक्षणसंपूर्णा सर्वाभरणभूषिता। योगसिद्धिप्रदा नित्यं मोक्षाभ्युदयदायिनीम्

sarvalakṣaṇasaṁpūrṇā sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā| yogasiddhipradā nityaṁ mokṣābhyudayadāyinīm

Complete with every auspicious mark, adorned with every ornament, ever granting the accomplishment of yoga, and bestowing both liberation and worldly flourishing.

Verse 36 (skanda.7.3.36)

सौभाग्यकदलीकन्दमूलबीजं च पार्वती। देवस्य मुखमालोक्य विस्मिता चारुलोचना

saubhāgyakadalīkaṁdamūlabījaṁ ca pārvatī| devasya mukhamālokya vismitā cārulocanā

Parvati, the very seed-root of good fortune's plantain, the fair-eyed one, gazing upon the god's face, became filled with wonder.

Verse 37 (skanda.7.3.37)

आनंदभावं संज्ञाय आनन्दास्राविलेक्षणम्। उवाच देवी मधुरं कृतांजलिपुटा सती

āmaṁdabhāvaṁ saṁjñāya āmaṁdāsrāvilekṣaṇam| uvāca devī madhuraṁ kṛtāṁjalipuṭā satī

Recognizing his mood of bliss, and her eyes moistened with tears of joy, the devoted Goddess, hands folded in reverence, spoke sweetly.

Verse 38 (skanda.7.3.38)

देव्युवाच। जन्मकोटिसहस्राणि जन्मकोटिशतानि च। शोधितस्त्वं जगन्नाथ मया प्राणनचिंतया

devyuvāca| janmakoṭisahasrāṇi janmakoṭiśatāni ca| śodhitastvaṁ jagannātha mayā prāṇanaciṁtayā

The Goddess said: Through thousands of crores of births, and through hundreds of crores of births, O Lord of the world, I have purified myself by meditating upon you with my very life-breath,

Verse 39 (skanda.7.3.39)

अर्द्धांग संस्थया वापि त्वद्वक्त्रध्यानकाम्यया। तथापि ते जगन्नाथ नांतो लब्ध्वो महेश्वर

ardhāṁga saṁsthayā vāpi tvadvaktradhyānakāmyayā| tathāpi te jagannātha nāṁto labdhvo maheśvara

by abiding as your half-body, and by longing to meditate upon your face — yet even so, O Lord of the world, Maheshvara, I have not found your limit.

Verse 40 (skanda.7.3.40)

अनन्तरूपिणे तुभ्यं देवदेव नमोऽस्तु ते। नमो वेदरहस्याय नमो वेदैः स्तुताय च

anaṁtarūpiṇe tubhyaṁ devadeva namo'stu te| namo vedarahasyāya namo vedaiḥ stutāya ca

Salutation to you, O God of gods, of infinite forms; salutation to you, the mystery of the Vedas; salutation to you, praised by the Vedas.

Verse 41 (skanda.7.3.41)

श्मशानरतिनित्याय नमो गगनचारिणे। ज्येष्ठसामरहस्याय शतरुद्रप्रियाय च

śmaśānaratinityāya namo gaganacāriṇe| jyeṣṭhasāmarahasyāya śatarudrapriyāya ca

Salutation to you who delight forever in the cremation ground, who wander through the sky, who are the mystery of the Jyeshtha-saman, and beloved of the Shatarudriya hymn.

Verse 42 (skanda.7.3.42)

नमो वृषकृतांकाय यजुर्वेदधराय च। ब्रह्मांडकोटिसंलग्नमालिने गगनात्मने

namo vṛṣakṛtāṁkāya yajurvedadharāya ca| brahmāṁḍakoṭisaṁlagnamāline gaganātmane

Salutation to you who bear the bull as your emblem, who hold the Yajurveda, who wear a garland strung with crores of universes, whose very self is the sky.

Verse 43 (skanda.7.3.43)

मणिचित्रितकन्दाय नमः सर्वार्थसिद्धये। नमो वेदस्वरूपाय द्विज सिद्धिप्रियाय च

maṇicitritakaṁdāya namaḥ sarvārthasiddhaye| namo vedasvarūpāya dvija siddhipriyāya ca

Salutation to you whose root is adorned with jewels, who accomplish every aim, whose very form is the Veda, and who delight in the attainment of the twice-born.

Verse 44 (skanda.7.3.44)

पुंस्त्रीविकाररूपाय नमश्चंद्रार्द्धधारिणे। नमोग्नये सहोमाय आदित्यवरुणाय च

puṁstrīvikārarūpāya namaścaṁdrārddhadhāriṇe| namognaye sahomāya ādityavaruṇāya ca

Salutation to you of the form transformed into man and woman both, who bear the crescent moon, who are Agni together with the oblation, and who are the Sun and Varuna.

Verse 45 (skanda.7.3.45)

पृथिव्यै चांतरिक्षाय वायवे दीक्षिताय च। संयोगाय वियोगाय धात्रे कर्त्रेऽपहारिणे

pṛthivyai cāṁtarikṣāya vāyave dīkṣitāya ca| saṁyogāya viyogāya dhātre kartre'pahāriṇe

Salutation to you who are Earth and Sky and Wind, who are consecration itself, who are union and separation, the sustainer, the doer, and the one who takes away.

Verse 46 (skanda.7.3.46)

प्रदीप्तशूलहस्ताय ब्रह्मदण्डधराय च। नमः पतीनां पतये महतां पतये नमः

pradīptaśūlahastāya brahmadaṇḍadharāya ca| namaḥ patīnāṁ pataye mahatāṁ pataye namaḥ

Salutation to you who hold the blazing trident in hand, who bear the staff of Brahma, lord of lords, and lord of the great ones.

Verse 47 (skanda.7.3.47)

नमः कालाग्निरुद्राय सप्तलोकनिवासिने। त्वं गतिः सर्वभूतानां भूतानां पतये नमः

namaḥ kālāgnirudrāya saptalokanivāsine| tvaṁ gatiḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ bhūtānāṁ pataye namaḥ

Salutation to Kalagni-Rudra, who dwells within the seven worlds; you are the refuge of all beings — salutation to the lord of the elemental spirits.

Verse 48 (skanda.7.3.48)

नमस्ते भगवन्रुद्र नमस्ते भगवञ्छिव। नमस्ते परतः श्रेष्ठ नमस्ते परतः पर

namaste bhagavanrudra namaste bhagavañchiva| namaste parataḥ śreṣṭha namaste parataḥ para

Salutation to you, Lord Rudra; salutation to you, Lord Shiva; salutation to you, more excellent than the beyond; salutation to you, beyond even the beyond.

Verse 49 (skanda.7.3.49)

जिह्वाचापल्यभावेन खेदितोऽसि मया प्रभो। तत्क्षन्तव्यं महेशान ज्ञानदिव्य नमोऽस्तु ते

jihvācāpalyabhāvena kheditosi mayā prabho| tatkṣantavyaṁ maheśāna jñānadivya namo'stu te

O Lord, through the fickleness of my tongue I may have troubled you — forgive this, O great Lord; salutation to you, of divine knowledge.

Verse 50 (skanda.7.3.50)

ईश्वर उवाच। ममोत्संगस्थिता देवि किं त्वं सास्राविलेक्षणा। अद्यापि किमपूर्णं ते तत्सर्वं करवाण्यहम्

īśvara uvāca| mamotsaṁgasthitā devi kiṁ tvaṁ sāsrāvilekṣaṇā| adyāpi kimapūrṇaṁ te tatsarvaṁ karavāṇyaham

Ishvara said: O Goddess, seated as you are in my very lap, why are your eyes still clouded with tears? What is it that remains unfulfilled for you even now? I shall accomplish all of it.

Verse 51 (skanda.7.3.51)

वरं ब्रवीहि भद्रं ते स्तवेनानेन सुव्रते। ददामि ते न संदेहः शोकं त्यज महेश्वरि

varaṁ bravīhi bhadraṁ te stavenānena suvrate| dadāmi te na saṁdehaḥ śokaṁ tyaja maheśvari

Speak your boon, blessed one of holy vows — well-being to you through this hymn of praise; I shall grant it, have no doubt; O great Goddess, cast aside your grief.

Verse 52 (skanda.7.3.52)

निष्कले सकले देवि स्थूले सूक्ष्मे चराचरे। न तत्पश्यामि देवेशि यत्त्वया रहितं भवेत्

niṣkale sakale devi sthūle sūkṣme carācare| na tatpaśyāmi deveśi yattvayā rahitaṁ bhavet

O Goddess, whether in the formless or the formed, the gross or the subtle, the moving or the unmoving — O Mistress of the gods, I see nothing anywhere that could exist apart from you.

Verse 53 (skanda.7.3.53)

अहं ते हृदये गौरि त्वं च मे हृदि संस्थिता। अहं भ्राता च पुत्रश्च बंधुर्भर्ता तथैव च

ahaṁ te hṛdaye gauri tvaṁ ca me hṛdi saṁsthitā| ahaṁ bhrātā ca putraśca baṁdhurbhartā tathaiva ca

O Gauri, I dwell in your heart, and you abide in mine; I am your brother, your son, your kinsman, and likewise your husband.

Verse 54 (skanda.7.3.54)

त्वं तु मे भगिनी भार्या दुहिता बांधवी स्नुषा। अहं यज्ञपतिर्यज्वा त्वं च श्रद्धा सदक्षिणा

tvaṁ tu me bhaginī bhāryā duhitā bāṁdhavī snuṣā| ahaṁ yajñapatiryajvā tvaṁ ca śraddhā sadakṣiṇā

You are my sister, my wife, my daughter, my kinswoman, my daughter-in-law; I am the lord of sacrifice and the sacrificer, and you are faith accompanied by its offering.

Verse 55 (skanda.7.3.55)

ओंकारोऽहं वषट्कारः सामाहमृग्यजुस्तथा। अहमग्निश्च होता च यजमानस्तथैव च

oṁkāro'haṁ vaṣaṭkāraḥ sāmāhamṛgyajustathā| ahamagniśca hotā ca yajamānastathaiva ca

I am the syllable Om, I am the Vashat exclamation, I am the Sama, the Rik, and the Yajus; I am Agni, the offering priest, and the sacrificer as well.

Verse 56 (skanda.7.3.56)

अध्वर्युरहमुद्गाता ब्रह्माहं ब्रह्मवित्तथा। त्वं तु देव्यरणी चैव पत्नी तु परिकीर्त्यसे

adhvaryurahamudgātā brahmāhaṁ brahmavittathā| tvaṁ tu devyaraṇī caiva patnī tu parikīrtyase

I am the Adhvaryu, the Udgatri, the Brahman priest and the knower of Brahman; and you, O Goddess, are proclaimed as both the kindling-block and the wife.

Verse 57 (skanda.7.3.57)

स्वाहा स्वधा च सुश्रोणि त्वयि सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम्। अहमिष्टो महायज्ञः पूर्वो यज्ञस्त्वमुच्यसे

svāhā svadhā ca suśroṇi tvayi sarvaṁ pratiṣṭhitam| ahamiṣṭo mahāyajñaḥ pūrvo yajñastvamucyase

You are Svaha and Svadha, O fair one; in you everything is established; I am the desired great sacrifice, and you are proclaimed the primal sacrifice.

Verse 58 (skanda.7.3.58)

पुरुषोऽहं वरारोहे प्रकृतिस्त्वं निगद्यसे। अहं विष्णुर्महावीर्यस्त्वं लक्ष्मीर्लोकभाविनी

puruṣo'haṁ varārohe prakṛtistvaṁ nigadyase| ahaṁ viṣṇurmahāvīryastvaṁ lakṣmīrlokabhāvinī

O fair one, I am Purusha, and you are declared to be Prakriti; I am Vishnu of great valor, and you are Lakshmi, who brings forth the worlds.

Verse 59 (skanda.7.3.59)

अहमिन्द्रो महातेजाः प्राची त्वं परमेश्वरी। प्रजापतीनां रूपेण सर्वमाहं व्यवस्थितः

ahamiṁdro mahātejāḥ prācī tvaṁ parameśvarī| prajāpatīnāṁ rūpeṇa sarvamāhaṁ vyavasthitaḥ

I am Indra, of great splendor, and you are the supreme goddess of the eastern quarter; in the form of the Prajapatis I stand established throughout all things.

Verse 60 (skanda.7.3.60)

तेषां या नायिकास्तास्त्वं रूपैस्तैस्तैरवस्थिता। दिवसोऽहं महादेवि रजनी त्वं निगद्यसे

teṣāṁ yā nāyikāstāstvaṁ rūpaistaistairavasthitā| divaso'haṁ mahādevi rajanī tvaṁ nigadyase

Whoever are the consorts of those Prajapatis, in each of those forms you abide; O great Goddess, I am the day, and you are called the night.

Verse 61 (skanda.7.3.61)

निमेषोऽहं मुहूर्तश्च त्वं कला सिद्धिरेव च। अहं तेजोऽधिकः सूर्यस्त्वं तु संध्या प्रकीर्त्यसे

nimeṣo'haṁ muhūrtaśca tvaṁ kalā siddhireva ca| ahaṁ tejo'dhikaḥ sūryastvaṁ tu saṁdhyā prakīrtyase

I am the instant and the hour, you are the fraction of time and accomplishment; I am the sun surpassing in radiance, and you are proclaimed as the twilight.

Verse 62 (skanda.7.3.62)

अहं बीजधरः श्रेष्ठस्त्वं तु क्षेत्रं वरानने। अहं वनस्पतिः प्लक्षस्त्वं वनस्पतिरुच्यसे

ahaṁ bījadharaḥ śreṣṭhastvaṁ tu kṣetraṁ varānane| ahaṁ vanaspatiḥ plakṣastvaṁ vanaspatirucyase

O fair-faced one, I am the foremost bearer of the seed, and you are the field; I am the Plaksha, lord of trees, and you too are called a plant.

Verse 63 (skanda.7.3.63)

शेषरूपधरो नित्ये फणामणिविभूषितः। रेवती त्वं विशालाक्षि मदविभ्रमलोचना

śeṣarūpadharo nitye phaṇāmaṇivibhūṣitaḥ| revatī tvaṁ viśālākṣi madavibhramalocanā

I eternally bear the form of Shesha, adorned with the jewel of my hood; O wide-eyed one, you are Revati, with eyes made restless by rapture.

Verse 64 (skanda.7.3.64)

मोक्षोऽहं सर्वदुःखानां त्वं तु देवि परा गतिः। अपां पतिरहं भद्रे त्वं तु देवि सरिद्वरा

mokṣo'haṁ sarvaduḥkhānāṁ tvaṁ tu devi parā gatiḥ| apāṁ patirahaṁ bhadre tvaṁ tu devi saridvarā

I am liberation from all suffering, and you, O Goddess, are the supreme goal; O blessed one, I am the lord of the waters, and you, O Goddess, are the foremost of rivers.

Verse 65 (skanda.7.3.65)

वडवाग्निरहं भद्रे त्वं तु दीप्तिः प्रकीर्तिता। प्रजापतिरहं कर्त्ता त्वं प्रजा प्रकृतिस्तथा

vaḍavāgnirahaṁ bhadre tvaṁ tu dīptiḥ prakīrtitā| prajāpatirahaṁ kartā tvaṁ prajā prakṛtistathā

O blessed one, I am the submarine fire, and you are proclaimed its blaze; I am Prajapati the creator, and you are his creation, and likewise Prakriti.

Verse 66 (skanda.7.3.66)

नागानामधिपश्चाहं पातालतलवासिनाम्। त्वं नागी नागराजोऽहं सहस्रफणभूषितः

nāgānāmadhipaścāhaṁ pātālatalavāsinām| tvaṁ nāgī nāgarājo'haṁ sahasraphaṇabhūṣitaḥ

I am the lord of the serpents that dwell in the depths of the netherworld, and you are their queen; I am the king of serpents, adorned with a thousand hoods.

Verse 67 (skanda.7.3.67)

निशाकरवरश्चाहं श्रेष्ठा त्वं रजनीकरी। कामोऽहं कामदो देवि त्वं रतिः स्मृतिरेव च

niśākaravaraścāhaṁ śreṣṭhā tvaṁ rajanīkarī| kāmo'haṁ kāmado devi tvaṁ ratiḥ smṛtireva ca

I am the excellent maker of night, the Moon, and you are the excellent one who brings the night; I am Kama, giver of desire, and you, O Goddess, are Rati and likewise Memory.

Verse 68 (skanda.7.3.68)

दुर्वासाश्चाप्यहं भद्रे त्वं क्षमा समचारिणी। लोभमोहतपश्चाहं त्वं तृष्णा तामसी स्मृता

durvāsāścāpyahaṁ bhadre tvaṁ kṣamā samacāriṇī| lobhamohatapaścāhaṁ tvaṁ tṛṣṇā tāmasī smṛtā

O blessed one, I am also Durvasa, and you are Forgiveness that treats all alike; I am greed, delusion, and austerity, and you are remembered as tamasic craving.

Verse 69 (skanda.7.3.69)

ककुद्मान्वृषभश्चाहं योगमाता तपस्विनी। वायुरप्यहमव्यक्तस्त्वं गतिर्मनसूदनी

kakudmānvṛṣabhaścāhaṁ yogamātā tapasvinī| vāyurapyahamavyaktastvaṁ gatirmanasūdanī

I am the humped bull, and you are the tapasvini mother of yoga; I am also the unmanifest Wind, and you are the movement that stills the mind.

Verse 70 (skanda.7.3.70)

अहं मोचयिता लोभे निर्ममा त्वं यशस्विनि। नयोऽहं सर्वकार्येषु नीतिस्त्वं कमलेक्षणा

ahaṁ mocayitā lobhe nirmamā tvaṁ yaśasvini| nayo'haṁ sarvakāryeṣu nītistvaṁ kamalekṣaṇā

I am he who releases from greed, and you, O renowned one, are free of possessiveness; I am wise judgment in every undertaking, and you, lotus-eyed one, are its right conduct.

Verse 71 (skanda.7.3.71)

अहमन्नं च भोक्ता च ओषधी त्वं निगद्यसे। अहमग्निश्च धूमश्च त्वमूष्मा ज्वालमेव च

ahamannaṁ ca bhoktā ca oṣadhī tvaṁ nigadyase| ahamagniśca dhūmaśca tvamūṣmā jvālameva ca

I am both food and its eater, and you are called the healing herb; I am the fire and its smoke, and you are its heat and its flame.

Verse 72 (skanda.7.3.72)

अहं संवर्त्तको मेघस्त्वं च धारा ह्यनेकशः। अहं मुनीनां रूपेण त्वं तत्पत्नी प्रकीर्तिता

ahaṁ saṁvartako meghastvaṁ ca dhārā hyanekaśaḥ| ahaṁ munīnāṁ rūpeṇa tvaṁ tatpatnī prakīrtitā

I am the dissolution-cloud, and you are its many streams of rain; I am present in the form of the sages, and you are proclaimed as their wives.

Verse 73 (skanda.7.3.73)

अहं संसारकर्त्ता वै त्वं तु सृष्टिर्वरानने। अहं शुक्रास्थिरोमाणि त्वं मज्जा बलमेव च

ahaṁ saṁsārakartā vai tvaṁ tu sṛṣṭirvarānane| ahaṁ śukrāsthiromāṇi tvaṁ majjā balameva ca

I am the maker of the world of transmigration, and you, O fair-faced one, are its creation; I am semen, bone, and hair, and you are marrow and strength.

Verse 74 (skanda.7.3.74)

पर्जन्योऽहं महाभागे त्वं वृष्टिः परमेश्वरि। अहं संवत्सरो देवि त्वमृतुः परिकीर्त्तिता

parjanyo'haṁ mahābhāge tvaṁ vṛṣṭiḥ parameśvari| ahaṁ saṁvatsaro devi tvamṛtuḥ parikīrtitā

O most fortunate one, I am the rain-god Parjanya, and you, supreme goddess, are the rainfall; O Goddess, I am the year, and you are proclaimed as the season.

Verse 75 (skanda.7.3.75)

अहं कृतयुगो देवि त्वं तु त्रेता निगद्यसे। युगोऽहं द्वापरः श्रीमांस्त्वं कलिः परमेश्वरि

ahaṁ kṛtayugo devi tvaṁ tu tretā nigadyase| yugo'haṁ dvāparaḥ śrīmāṁstvaṁ kaliḥ parameśvari

O Goddess, I am the Krita age, and you are declared the Treta; I am the glorious Dvapara age, and you, supreme goddess, are the Kali.

Verse 76 (skanda.7.3.76)

आकाशश्चाप्यहं भद्रे पृथिवी त्वमिहोच्यसे। अहमदृश्यमूर्तिश्च दृश्यमूर्तिस्त्वमुच्यसे

ākāśaścāpyahaṁ bhadre pṛthivī tvamihocyase| ahamadṛśyamūrtiśca dṛśyamūrtistvamucyase

O blessed one, I am also the sky, and here you are called the earth; I am the invisible form, and you are called the visible form.

Verse 77 (skanda.7.3.77)

वरदोऽहं वरारोहे मंत्रस्त्वमिति चोच्यसे। अहं द्रष्टा च श्रोता च त्वं दृश्या श्रुतिरेव च

varado'haṁ varārohe maṁtrastvamiti cocyase| ahaṁ draṣṭā ca śrotā ca tvaṁ dṛśyā śrutireva ca

O fair one, I am the giver of boons, and you are called the mantra; I am the seer and the hearer, and you are the seen and likewise the heard.

Verse 78 (skanda.7.3.78)

अहं वक्ता रमयिता त्वं वाच्या परमेश्वरि। अहं श्रोता च गाता च त्वं गीतिर्गेयमेव च

ahaṁ vaktā ramayitā tvaṁ vācyā parameśvari| ahaṁ śrotā ca gātā ca tvaṁ gītirgeyameva ca

I am the speaker who delights, and you, supreme goddess, are that which is spoken; I am the listener and the singer, and you are the melody and the song itself.

Verse 79 (skanda.7.3.79)

अहं त्राता च गन्धश्च त्वं तु निघ्राणमेव च। अहं स्पर्शयिता कर्ता स्पर्श्यस्त्वं सृष्टमेव च

ahaṁ trātā ca gaṁdhaśca tvaṁ tu nighrāṇameva ca| ahaṁ sparśayitā kartā sparśyastvaṁ sṛṣṭameva ca

I am the protector and the fragrance, and you are the very sense of smell; I am the agent who causes touch, and you are that which is touched, and creation itself.

Verse 80 (skanda.7.3.80)

अहं सर्वमिदं भूतं त्वं तु देवि न संशयः। स्रष्टाऽहं तव देवेशि त्वं सृजस्यखिलं जगत्

ahaṁ sarvamidaṁ bhūtaṁ tvaṁ tu devi na saṁśayaḥ| sraṣṭā'haṁ tava deveśi tvaṁ sṛjasyakhilaṁ jagat

I am all this that exists, O Goddess, of this there is no doubt; I am your creator, O Mistress of the gods, and you create this entire universe.

Verse 81 (skanda.7.3.81)

त्वया मया च देवेशि ओतप्रोतमिदं जगत्। एकधा दशधा चैव तथा शतसहस्रधा

tvayā mayā ca deveśi otaprotamidaṁ jagat| ekadhā daśadhā caiva tathā śatasahasradhā

O Mistress of the gods, this universe is woven through and through with you and with me — as one, as ten, and likewise as a hundred and a thousand.

Verse 82 (skanda.7.3.82)

ऐश्वर्येण तु संयुक्तौ सर्वप्राणि व्यवस्थितौ। अहं त्वं च विशालाक्षि सततं संप्रतिष्ठितौ

aiśvaryeṇa tu saṁyuktau sarvaprāṇi vyavasthitau| ahaṁ tvaṁ ca viśālākṣi satataṁ saṁpratiṣṭhitau

Joined with sovereign majesty, we both abide established within every living being; O wide-eyed one, you and I stand forever established together.

Verse 83 (skanda.7.3.83)

क्रीडामि क्रीडया देवि त्वया सार्द्धं वरानने। त्वं धृतिर्धारिणी लक्ष्मीः कांता मत्प्रकृतिर्ध्रुवम्

krīḍāmi krīḍayā devi tvayā sārddhaṁ varānane| tvaṁ dhṛtirdhāriṇī lakṣmīḥ kāṁtā matprakṛtirdhruvam

O Goddess, O fair-faced one, I play at play together with you; you are steadfastness, the sustainer, Lakshmi, the beloved, and surely my very own Prakriti.

Verse 84 (skanda.7.3.84)

रतिः स्मृतिः कामचारी मम चांगनिवासिनी। देवि किं बहुनोक्तेन प्राणेभ्योऽपि गरीयसी

ratiḥ smṛtiḥ kāmacārī mama cāṁganivāsinī| devi kiṁ bahunoktena prāṇebhyo'pi garīyasī

You are Rati, Memory, one who roams at will, and one who dwells within my very body; O Goddess, what need for many words — you are dearer to me than life itself.

Verse 85 (skanda.7.3.85)

वरं वरय देवशि यत्किंचिन्मनसि स्थितम्। तत्ते ददामि तुष्टोऽहं यद्यपि स्यात्सुदुर्ल्लभम्

varaṁ varaya devaśi yatkiṁcinmanasi sthitam| tatte dadāmi tuṣṭo'haṁ yadyapi syātsudurllabham

O Mistress of the gods, ask whatever boon rests in your mind; pleased, I shall grant it to you, however hard it may be to obtain.

Verse 86 (skanda.7.3.86)

देव्युवाच। धन्याहं कृतपुण्याहं तपः सुचरितं मया। यत्त्वयाऽहं जगन्नाथ हर्षदृष्ट्याऽवलोकिता

devyuvāca| dhanyāhaṁ kṛtapuṇyāhaṁ tapaḥ sucaritaṁ mayā| yattvayā'haṁ jagannātha harṣadṛṣṭyā'valokitā

The Goddess said: I am blessed, I have earned merit, well have I performed austerity — for, O Lord of the world, you have looked upon me with a glance of joy.

Verse 87 (skanda.7.3.87)

यदि तुष्टोऽसि मे देव वरं दातुं ममेच्छसि। तन्मे कथय देवेश सांप्रतं तीर्थविस्तरम्

yadi tuṣṭo'si me deva varaṁ dātuṁ mamecchasi| tanme kathaya deveśa sāṁprataṁ tīrthavistaram

If you are pleased with me, O god, and wish to grant me a boon, then, O Lord of the gods, tell me now of the extent of the sacred tirthas.

Verse 88 (skanda.7.3.88)

पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि पापघ्नानि शिवानि च। तानि देवेश कार्त्स्न्येन यथावद्वक्तुमर्हसि

pṛthivyāṁ yāni tīrthāni pāpaghnāni śivāni ca| tāni deveśa kārtsnyena yathāvadvaktumarhasi

O Lord of the gods, you should duly and fully tell me of the tirthas upon the earth that destroy sin and bring auspiciousness.

Verse 89 (skanda.7.3.89)

ईश्वर उवाच। शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि तीर्थमाहात्म्यमुत्तमम्। सर्वपापहरं नृणां पुण्यं देवर्षिसत्कृतम्

īśvara uvāca| śṛṇu devi pravakṣyāmi tīrthamāhātmyamuttamam| sarvapāpaharaṁ nṛṇāṁ puṇyaṁ devarṣisatkṛtam

Ishvara said: Listen, O Goddess, I shall tell of the supreme glory of the tirthas — that which removes all the sins of men, is meritorious, and is honored by the gods and sages.

Verse 90 (skanda.7.3.90)

तीर्थानां दर्शनं श्रेष्ठं स्नानं चैव सुरेश्वरि। श्रवणं च प्रशंसंति सदैव ऋषिसत्तमाः

tīrthānāṁ darśanaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ snānaṁ caiva sureśvari| śravaṇaṁ ca praśaṁsaṁti sadaiva ṛṣisattamāḥ

O queen of the gods, the sight of the tirthas is excellent, and bathing in them likewise; and hearing of them too the very best of sages always praise.

Verse 91 (skanda.7.3.91)

पृथिव्यां नैमिषं तीर्थमंतरिक्षे च पुष्करम्। केदारं च प्रयागं च विपाशा चोर्मिला तथा

pṛthivyāṁ naimiṣaṁ tīrthamaṁtarikṣe ca puṣkaram| kedāraṁ ca prayāgaṁ ca vipāśā cormilā tathā

On earth is the tirtha of Naimisha, and in the sky, Pushkara; and Kedara, Prayaga, the Vipasha river, and Urmila likewise.

Verse 92 (skanda.7.3.92)

कर्णवेणा महादेवी चंद्रभागा सरस्वती। गंगासागरसंभेदस्तथा वाराणसी शुभा

karṇaveṇā mahādevī caṁdrabhāgā sarasvatī| gaṁgāsāgarasaṁbhedastathā vārāṇasī śubhā

The Karnavena, the Mahadevi, the Chandrabhaga, the Sarasvati, the confluence of the Ganga and the ocean, and auspicious Varanasi.

Verse 93 (skanda.7.3.93)

अर्घतीर्थं समाख्यातं गंगाद्वारं तथैव च। हिमस्थानं महातीर्थं तथा मायापुरी शुभा

arghatīrthaṁ samākhyātaṁ gaṁgādvāraṁ tathaiva ca| himasthānaṁ mahātīrthaṁ tathā māyāpurī śubhā

The Argha-tirtha, likewise Gangadvara, the great tirtha of Himasthana, and auspicious Mayapuri.

Verse 94 (skanda.7.3.94)

शतभद्रा महाभागा सिन्धुश्चैव महा नदी। ऐरावती च कपिला शोणश्चैव महानदः

śatabhadrā mahābhāgā siṁdhuścaiva mahā nadī| airāvatī ca kapilā śoṇaścaiva mahānadaḥ

The most fortunate Shatabhadra, the great river Sindhu, the Airavati, the Kapila, and the great river Shona.

Verse 95 (skanda.7.3.95)

पयोधिः कौशिकी तद्वत्तथा गोदावरी शुभा। देवखातं गया चैव तथा द्वारावती शुभा

payodhiḥ kauśikī tadvattathā godāvarī śubhā| devakhātaṁ gayā caiva tathā dvāravatī śubhā

The Payodhi, the Kaushiki, likewise auspicious Godavari, Devakhata, Gaya, and auspicious Dvaravati.

Verse 96 (skanda.7.3.96)

प्रभासं च महातीर्थं सर्वपातकनाशनम्

prabhāsaṁ ca mahātīrthaṁ sarvapātakanāśanam

And the great tirtha of Prabhasa, destroyer of all sins.

Verse 97 (skanda.7.3.97)

एवमादीनि तीर्थानि यानि संति महीतले। तानि दृष्ट्वा तु देवेशि पुनर्जन्म न विन्दते

evamādīni tīrthāni yāni saṁti mahītale| tāni dṛṣṭvā tu deveśi punarjanma na viṁdate

Such are the tirthas that exist upon the earth, O Mistress of the gods; having beheld them, one does not attain rebirth.

Verse 98 (skanda.7.3.98)

तिस्रः कोट्योऽर्धकोटी च तीर्थानामिह भूतले। संजातानि पवित्राणि सर्वपापहराणि च

tisraḥ koṭyo'rdhakoṭī ca tīrthānāmiha bhūtale| saṁjātāni pavitrāṇi sarvapāpaharāṇi ca

Upon this earth there have arisen three and a half crore tirthas, sacred and destructive of every sin.

Verse 99 (skanda.7.3.99)

गंतव्यानि महादेवि स्वधर्मस्य विवृद्धये। अशक्यानि शिवान्येवं गंतुं चैव सुरेश्वरि। मनसा तानि सर्वाणि गंतव्यानि समाहितैः

gaṁtavyāni mahādevi svadharmasya vivṛddhaye| aśakyāni śivānyevaṁ gaṁtuṁ caiva sureśvari| manasā tāni sarvāṇi gaṁtavyāni samāhitaiḥ

O great Goddess, one ought to journey to all of them for the increase of one's own dharma; but, O queen of the gods, it is not possible to visit all these auspicious places in person — so, with a composed mind, one should journey to all of them mentally.

Verse 100 (skanda.7.3.100)

देव्युवाच। भगवन्प्राणिनः सर्वे सर्वोपद्रवसंकुलाः। अल्पायुषः सदा बद्धा व्यामोहैर्मंदिरोद्भवैः

devyuvāca| bhagavanprāṇinaḥ sarve sarvopadravasaṁkulāḥ| alpāyuṣaḥ sadā baddhā vyāmohairmaṁdirodbhavaiḥ

The Goddess said: O Lord, all creatures are beset by every kind of calamity, short-lived, and forever bound by delusions born of the body.

Verse 101 (skanda.7.3.101)

त्रेतायां द्वापरे चैव किं नु वै दारुणे कलौ। तस्मात्तेषां हितार्थाय तत्तीर्थं त्वं प्रकीर्तय। येन दृष्टेन सर्वेषां तीर्थानां लभ्यते फलम्

tretāyāṁ dvāpare caiva kiṁ nu vai dāruṇe kalau| tasmāttteṣāṁ hitārthāya tattīrthaṁ tvaṁ prakīrtaya| yena dṛṣṭena sarveṣāṁ tīrthānāṁ labhyate phalam

If this is so even in Treta and Dvapara, how much more so in the terrible Kali age! Therefore, for their welfare, proclaim that one tirtha whose mere sight bestows the fruit of all the tirthas.

Verse 102 (skanda.7.3.102)

एवमुक्तस्तु पार्वत्या प्रहस्य परमेश्वरः। उवाच परया प्रीत्या वाचा मधुरया प्रभुः

evamuktastu pārvatyā prahasya parameśvaraḥ| uvāca parayā prītyā vācā madhurayā prabhuḥ

Thus addressed by Parvati, the supreme Lord smiled and, with the greatest affection, spoke in a sweet voice.

Verse 103 (skanda.7.3.103)

ईश्वर उवाच। त्वमेव हि चराः प्राणाः सर्वस्य जगतोरणिः। त्वया विरहितो देवि मुहूर्तमपि नोत्सहे

īśvara uvāca| tvameva hi carāḥ prāṇāḥ sarvasya jagatoraṇiḥ| tvayā virahito devi muhūrtamapi notsahe

Ishvara said: You alone are the moving life-breath of the entire universe, and its very kindling-source; O Goddess, deprived of you, I have not the strength to endure even for a moment.

Verse 104 (skanda.7.3.104)

शिवस्य च तथा शक्तेरंतरं नास्ति पार्वति। न तदस्ति महादेवि यन्न जानासि शोभने

śivasya ca tathā śakteraṁtaraṁ nāsti pārvati| na tadasti mahādevi yanna jānāsi śobhane

O Parvati, there is no difference between Shiva and Shakti; O great Goddess, O gracious one, there is nothing at all that you do not know.

Verse 105 (skanda.7.3.105)

त्वया विनाऽहं न क्वास्मि न त्वं देवि मया विना। चंद्रचंद्रिकयोर्यद्वदग्नेरुष्णत्वमेव हि

tvayā vinā'haṁ na kvāsmi na tvaṁ devi mayā vinā| caṁdracaṁdrikayoryadvadagneruṣṇatvameva hi

Without you I exist nowhere, and, O Goddess, without me you do not exist either — just as the moon and its light, or fire and its very heat.

Verse 106 (skanda.7.3.106)

तव देवि ममापीह नास्ति चैवांतरं प्रिये। सर्वं चैव सुरेशानि यथावत्कथयाम्यहम्

tava devi mamāpīha nāsti caivāṁtaraṁ priye| sarvaṁ caiva sureśāni yathāvatkathayāmyaham

O Goddess, O beloved, here there is no difference at all between you and me; O queen of the gods, I shall now tell you everything, duly, as it is.

Verse 107 (skanda.7.3.107)

रहस्यानां रहस्यं तु गोपनीयं प्रयत्नतः। नास्तिकाय न दातव्यं न च पापरताय च

rahasyānāṁ rahasyaṁ tu gopanīyaṁ prayatnataḥ| nāstikāya na dātavyaṁ na ca pāparatāya ca

This, the mystery of mysteries, is to be guarded with care; it must not be given to an unbeliever, nor to one devoted to sin.

Verse 108 (skanda.7.3.108)

दातव्यं भक्ति युक्ताय स्वशिष्याय सुताय वा। पूर्वमेव मया ख्यातं सारात्सारतरं प्रिये

dātavyaṁ bhakti yuktāya svaśiṣyāya sutāya vā| pūrvameva mayā khyātaṁ sārātsārataraṁ priye

It should be given only to a devoted disciple or a son; O beloved, this I have already declared to you before, as more essential than the essence itself.

Verse 109 (skanda.7.3.109)

तीर्थोपनिषदः ख्याता लिंगोपनिषदस्तथा। योगोपनिषदो देवि पूर्वं वै कथितास्तव

tīrthopaniṣadaḥ khyātā liṁgopaniṣadastathā| yogopaniṣado devi pūrvaṁ vai kathitāstava

O Goddess, the secret teachings of the tirthas, likewise those of the linga, and the secret teachings of yoga — all these I have already told you before.

Verse 110 (skanda.7.3.110)

पार्वत्युवाच। लेशेनापि न सिद्ध्यंति कांक्षमाणाः परं पदम्। योनीर्भ्रमंतो दृश्यंते नरा नास्तिकवृत्तयः

pārvatyuvāca| leśenāpi na siddhyaṁti kāṁkṣamāṇāḥ paraṁ padam| yonīrbhramaṁto dṛśyaṁte narā nāstikavṛttayaḥ

Parvati said: Men who long for the supreme goal fail to attain it even in the slightest degree; men of unbelieving disposition are seen wandering endlessly through the cycle of births.

Verse 111 (skanda.7.3.111)

तीर्थव्रतानि सेवन्ते प्रत्ययो नैव जायते। मोहितं तु जगत्पूर्वं मिथ्याज्ञानेन शंकर

tīrthavratāni sevaṁte pratyayo naiva jāyate| mohitaṁ tu jagatpūrvaṁ mithyājñānena śaṁkara

They perform the observances of the tirthas, yet no true conviction arises in them; O Shankara, this world has, from of old, been deluded by false knowledge.

Verse 112 (skanda.7.3.112)

किं ते फलं सुरश्रेष्ठ जगद्व्यामोहने कृते

kiṁ te phalaṁ suraśreṣṭha jagadvyāmohane kṛte

O best of gods, what benefit do you gain by thus keeping the world deluded?

Verse 113 (skanda.7.3.113)

सारात्सारतरं नाथ तव प्राणप्रियं हि यत्। तन्मे कथय देवेश प्रियाहं यदि ते प्रभो

sārātsārataraṁ nātha tava prāṇapriyaṁ hi yat| tanme kathaya deveśa priyāhaṁ yadi te prabho

O Lord, whatever is more essential than the essence itself and dear to you as your very life — tell that to me, O Lord of the gods, if indeed I am dear to you, O Master.

Verse 114 (skanda.7.3.114)

इत्युक्तः स तया देव्या श्रीकंठः सुरनायकः। प्रहस्योवाच भगवान्गंभीरार्थमिदं वचः

ityuktaḥ sa tayā devyā śrīkaṁṭhaḥ suranāyakaḥ| prahasyovāca bhagavāngaṁbhīrārthamidaṁ vacaḥ

Thus addressed by the Goddess, the blessed Shrikantha, lord of the gods, smiled and spoke these words of profound meaning.

Verse 115 (skanda.7.3.115)

ईश्वर उवाच। शृणुष्वावहिता भूत्वा पृष्टोऽहं यस्त्वयाऽधुना। निष्फलं तत्प्रवक्ष्यामि वस्तुतत्त्वं यथास्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| śṛṇuṣvāvahitā bhūtvā pṛṣṭo'haṁ yastvayā'dhunā| niṣphalaṁ tatpravakṣyāmi vastutattvaṁ yathāsthitam

Ishvara said: Listen with full attention to what you have now asked me; I shall declare, without concealment, the true nature of the matter as it stands.

Verse 116 (skanda.7.3.116)

पूर्वमुक्तानि तीर्थानि यानि ते सुरसुंदरि। तिस्रः कोट्योऽर्द्धकोटी च ब्रह्मांडे सचराचरे

pūrvamuktāni tīrthāni yāni te surasuṁdari| tisraḥ koṭyo'rddhakoṭī ca brahmāṁḍe sacarācare

O lovely one among the gods, the three and a half crore tirthas previously spoken of, within this universe of moving and unmoving things,

Verse 117 (skanda.7.3.117)

तेषां च गोपितं तीर्थं प्रभासं चैव सुव्रते

teṣāṁ ca gopitaṁ tīrthaṁ prabhāsaṁ caiva suvrate

O one of holy vows, among all of these, the tirtha of Prabhasa alone has been kept hidden.

Verse 118 (skanda.7.3.118)

एवमुक्तं महादेवि प्रभासं क्षेत्रमुत्तमम्। दृष्ट्वा संस्काररहिताः कलौ पापेन मोहिताः

evamuktaṁ mahādevi prabhāsaṁ kṣetramuttamam| dṛṣṭvā saṁskārarahitāḥ kalau pāpena mohitāḥ

O great Goddess, thus is declared this supreme field of Prabhasa; yet, seeing it in the Kali age, those without sacramental refinement, deluded by sin,

Verse 119 (skanda.7.3.119)

राजसास्तामसाश्चैव पापोपहतचेतसः। परदारपरद्रव्यपरहिंसारता नराः

rājasāstāmasāścaiva pāpopahatacetasaḥ| paradāraparadravyaparahiṁsāratā narāḥ

men of rajasic and tamasic nature, their minds struck by sin, devoted to others' wives, others' wealth, and to violence —

Verse 120 (skanda.7.3.120)

उद्वेगं च परं यांति प्रतप्यंति यतस्ततः। आत्मसंभाविता मूढा मिथ्याज्ञानेन मोहिताः। वर्णाश्रमविरुद्धं तु तीर्थे कुर्वन्ति येऽधमाः

udvegaṁ ca paraṁ yāṁti pratapyaṁti yatastataḥ| ātmasaṁbhāvitā mūḍhā mithyājñānena mohitāḥ| varṇāśramaviruddhaṁ tu tīrthe kurvaṁti ye'dhamāḥ

fall into supreme agitation and suffer torment on every side; self-conceited fools, deluded by false knowledge — those base men who act in the tirtha contrary to the duties of their class and stage of life,

Verse 121 (skanda.7.3.121)

तीर्थयात्रां प्रकुर्वंति दंभेन कपटेन च। तीर्थे मृता न सिध्यंति ते नरा वरवर्णिनि

tīrthayātrāṁ prakurvaṁti daṁbhena kapaṭena ca| tīrthe mṛtā na sidhyaṁti te narā varavarṇini

who undertake the tirtha-pilgrimage out of hypocrisy and deceit — O fair one, such men, even dying at the tirtha, do not attain accomplishment.

Verse 122 (skanda.7.3.122)

एतदर्थं मया देवि तीर्थानि विविधानि च। लिंगानि चैव सुश्रोणि गोपितानि प्रयत्नतः। न सिद्धिदानि देवेशि कलौ कल्मषकारिणाम्

etadarthaṁ mayā devi tīrthāni vividhāni ca| liṁgāni caiva suśroṇi gopitāni prayatnataḥ| na siddhidāni deveśi kalau kalmaṣakāriṇām

For this very reason, O Goddess, I have carefully kept hidden the various tirthas and lingas; O Mistress of the gods, in the Kali age they do not grant accomplishment to those who commit sin.

Verse 123 (skanda.7.3.123)

ये नरास्तु जितक्रोधा जितलोभा जितेंद्रियाः। ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शूद्राश्चादम्भमत्सराः

ye narāstu jitakrodhā jitalobhā jiteṁdriyāḥ| brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyāḥ śūdrāścādaṁbhamatsarāḥ

Those men who have conquered anger, conquered greed, and mastered their senses — brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas, and shudras alike — free of hypocrisy and envy,

Verse 124 (skanda.7.3.124)

मद्भावभाविता देवि तीर्थं सेवंति सुव्रताः। तेषां चैव हितार्थाय कथयामि यशश्विनि

madbhāvabhāvitā devi tīrthaṁ sevaṁti suvratāḥ| teṣāṁ caiva hitārthāya kathayāmi yaśaśvini

O Goddess, those of holy vows who, imbued with devotion to me, resort to the tirtha — for their welfare alone, O renowned one, do I tell this.

Verse 125 (skanda.7.3.125)

प्रभासमिति विख्यातं क्षेत्रं त्रैलोक्यवंदितम्। तत्क्षेत्रं नैव जानंति मम मायाविमोहिताः

prabhāsamiti vikhyātaṁ kṣetraṁ trailokyavaṁditam| tatkṣetraṁ naiva jānaṁti mama māyāvimohitāḥ

This field, renowned by the name Prabhasa, is venerated throughout the three worlds; yet those deluded by my own maya do not know that field at all.

Verse 126 (skanda.7.3.126)

परोहं त्वेकचित्तैश्च बहुजन्मभिरर्चितः। ते विदंति परं क्षेत्रं प्रभासं पापनाशनम्

paro'haṁ tvekacittaiśca bahujanmabhirarcitaḥ| te vidaṁti paraṁ kṣetraṁ prabhāsaṁ pāpanāśanam

For those who, with a single-pointed mind, have worshipped me across many births, I am the Supreme; they alone know that supreme field, Prabhasa, the destroyer of sin.

Verse 127 (skanda.7.3.127)

मद्भावभाविता देवि मम व्रतनिषेविणः। तेषां प्रभासिकं क्षेत्रं विदितं नात्र संशयः

madbhāvabhāvitā devi mama vratani ṣeviṇaḥ| teṣāṁ prabhāsikaṁ kṣetraṁ viditaṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ

O Goddess, those imbued with devotion to me, who observe my vows — to them alone is the Prabhasika field made known, of this there is no doubt.

Verse 128 (skanda.7.3.128)

यमैश्च नियमैर्युक्ता अहंकारविवर्ज्जिताः। तेषामर्थे वदिष्यामि तव प्रश्नं सुदुर्ल्लभम्। ब्रह्मविष्ण्विन्द्रदेवानां पुराणं कथितं मया

yamaiśca niyamairyuktā ahaṁkāravivarjitāḥ| teṣāmarthe vadiṣyāmi tava praśnaṁ sudurllabham| brahmaviṣṇvindradevānāṁ purāṇaṁ kathitaṁ mayā

For the sake of those joined with the ethical and spiritual disciplines and free of egotism, I shall answer this most rare question of yours; I have already told the Purana concerning Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and the other gods.

Verse 129 (skanda.7.3.129)

सोऽहं देवि वदिष्यामि कर्णं देहि वरानने। पृथिव्यामपि सर्वेषां तीर्थानां सुरसुंदरि

so'haṁ devi vadiṣyāmi karṇaṁ dehi varānane| pṛthivyāmapi sarveṣāṁ tīrthānāṁ surasuṁdari

That same I, O Goddess, O fair-faced one, shall now speak — lend me your ear; O lovely one among the gods, of all the tirthas upon the earth,

Verse 130 (skanda.7.3.130)

एकं मे वल्लभं तत्र प्रभासं क्षेत्रमुत्तमम्। तस्मिंश्चैव महाक्षेत्रे तीर्थैः सोमेन पूजितः। वरांस्तस्मै प्रदायाथ सदैकांते स्थितो ह्यहम्

ekaṁ me vallabhaṁ tatra prabhāsaṁ kṣetramuttamam| tasmiṁścaiva mahākṣetre tīrthaiḥ somena pūjitaḥ| varāṁstasmai pradāyātha sadaikāṁte sthito hyaham

one alone is my most beloved — the supreme field of Prabhasa; in that great field, Soma worshipped me together with its tirthas, and having granted him boons, I have ever since dwelt there in solitude.

Verse 131 (skanda.7.3.131)

तेन गुह्यं कृतं स्थानं तव देवि प्रकाशितम्। तत्र मे योगयुक्तस्य दिव्यं लिंगं बभूव ह

tena guhyaṁ kṛtaṁ sthānaṁ tava devi prakāśitam| tatra me yogayuktasya divyaṁ liṁgaṁ babhūva ha

That place, which he kept secret, O Goddess, is now revealed to you; there, as I remained absorbed in yoga, my divine linga came into being.

Verse 132 (skanda.7.3.132)

दिव्यतेजस्समायुक्तं वह्निमेखलमंडितम्। लक्षमात्रस्थितं शांतं दुर्निरीक्ष्यं तु मानवैः

divyatejassamāyuktaṁ vahnimekhalamaṁḍitam| lakṣamātrasthitaṁ śāṁtaṁ durnirīkṣyaṁ tu mānavaiḥ

Endowed with divine radiance, encircled by a girdle of fire, extending to the measure of a hundred thousand, tranquil, and impossible for humans to gaze upon directly.

Verse 133 (skanda.7.3.133)

इच्छाज्ञानक्रियाख्याश्च तिस्रो वै शक्तयश्च याः। तस्माल्लिंगात्समुत्पन्ना जगत्कर्तृत्वहेतवे

icchājñānakriyākhyāśca tisro vai śaktayaśca yāḥ| tasmālliṁgātsamutpannā jagatkartṛtvahetave

The three powers known as Will, Knowledge, and Action arose from that very linga, for the sake of the creation of the universe.

Verse 134 (skanda.7.3.134)

तस्मिँल्लिंगे लयं याति जगदेतच्चराचरम्। पुनस्तेनैव संभूतं दृश्यते सचराचरम्

tasmiṁlliṁge layaṁ yāti jagadetaccarācaram| punastenaiva saṁbhūtaṁ dṛśyate sacarācaram

This entire universe of moving and unmoving things dissolves into that very linga, and is again seen brought forth from it, moving and unmoving alike.

Verse 135 (skanda.7.3.135)

गुह्यं चैव तु संभूतं न कश्चिद्वेद तत्परम्। जन्माभ्यासेन तल्लिंगं ज्ञायते भुवि मानवैः

guhyaṁ caiva tu saṁbhūtaṁ na kaścidveda tatparam| janmābhyāsena talliṁgaṁ jñāyate bhuvi mānavaiḥ

Its origin is a mystery — none knows that supreme secret; only through the discipline of many births do humans on earth come to know that linga.

Verse 136 (skanda.7.3.136)

क्षेत्रं प्रभासिकं प्रोक्तं क्षेत्रज्ञोऽहं न संशयः। तत्र सोमेशनामाहमस्मिन्क्षेत्रं वरानने

kṣetraṁ prabhāsikaṁ proktaṁ kṣetrajño'haṁ na saṁśayaḥ| tatra someśanāmāhamasminkṣetraṁ varānane

Thus is declared the Prabhasika field; I am its very Knower, of this there is no doubt; O fair-faced one, there in this field I am known by the name Someshvara.

Verse 137 (skanda.7.3.137)

ममांशसंभवा ये च अस्मिन्क्षेत्रे समुद्भवाः। तेषां तु विदितं लिंगं पूर्वकल्पे तु भैरवम्

mamāṁśasaṁbhavā ye ca asminkṣetre samudbhavāḥ| teṣāṁ tu viditaṁ liṁgaṁ pūrvakalpe tu bhairavam

Those who were born of a portion of myself and arose within this field — to them alone was this Bhairava linga known, in the former kalpa.

Verse 138 (skanda.7.3.138)

अन्यैरपि युगैर्देवि इदं लिंगं सुदुर्लभम्। घोरे कलियुगे पापे विशेषेण च दुर्लभम्

anyairapi yugairdevi idaṁ liṁgaṁ sudurlabham| ghore kaliyuge pāpe viśeṣeṇa ca durlabham

O Goddess, even in other ages this linga is exceedingly rare, and in the terrible, sinful Kali age it is especially hard to attain.

Verse 139 (skanda.7.3.139)

अन्यन्निदर्शनं तत्र तत्प्रवक्ष्यामि पार्वति

anyannidarśanaṁ tatra tatpravakṣyāmi pārvati

O Parvati, I shall tell you another illustration in this regard.

Verse 140 (skanda.7.3.140)

कलौ युगे महाघोरे हेतुवादरता नराः। वदिष्यंति महापापाः सर्वे पाखण्डसंस्थिताः

kalau yuge mahāghore hetuvādaratā narāḥ| vadiṣyaṁti mahāpāpāḥ sarve pākhaṇḍasaṁsthitāḥ

In the terrible Kali age, men devoted to sophistic argument, greatly sinful, all established in hypocrisy, will say —

Verse 141 (skanda.7.3.141)

मिथ्या चैतत्कृतं सर्वं मूर्खैश्चापि प्रकीर्तितम्। क्व क्षेत्रं क्व प्रभावश्च कुत्र वै सन्ति देवताः

mithyā caitatkṛtaṁ sarvaṁ mūrkhaiścāpi prakīrtitam| kva kṣetraṁ kva prabhāvaśca kutra vai saṁti devatāḥ

'All this is false, proclaimed only by fools — where is this field, where its power, and where indeed are these gods?'

Verse 142 (skanda.7.3.142)

सर्वं चापि तथालीकं मूढैश्चापि प्रकीर्तितम्

sarvaṁ cāpi tathālīkaṁ mūḍhaiścāpi prakīrtitam

'All of it is likewise false, proclaimed only by the foolish.'

Verse 143 (skanda.7.3.143)

एवं मूर्खा वदिष्यंति प्रहसिष्यन्ति चापरे। नारका नास्तिका लोकाः पापोपहतचेतसः। सिद्धिं नैव प्रयास्यंति संप्राप्ते तु कलौ युगे

evaṁ mūrkhā vadiṣyaṁti prahasiṣyaṁti cāpare| nārakā nāstikā lokāḥ pāpopahatacetasaḥ| siddhiṁ naiva prayāsyaṁti saṁprāpte tu kalau yuge

Thus will fools speak, and others will mock; those bound for hell, the unbelievers, their minds struck by sin, shall never attain accomplishment once the Kali age has come.

Verse 144 (skanda.7.3.144)

तीर्थे चैव मृता ये तु शिवनिन्दापरायणाः। तिर्यग्योनिप्रसूताश्च दृश्यन्ते सर्वयोनिषु

tīrthe caiva mṛtā ye tu śivanindāparāyaṇāḥ| tiryagyoniprasūtāśca dṛśyaṁte sarvayoniṣu

Those devoted to reviling Shiva, who die even at the tirtha, are seen born into animal wombs, wandering through every kind of birth.

Verse 145 (skanda.7.3.145)

एतस्मात्कारणाद्देवि तीर्थे चैव सुदुःखिताः। दृश्यन्ते युगमाहात्म्यात्सत्यशौचविवर्जिताः

etasmātkāraṇāddevi tīrthe caiva suduḥkhitāḥ| dṛśyaṁte yugamāhātmyātsatyaśaucavivarjitāḥ

For this very reason, O Goddess, owing to the influence of the age, those devoid of truth and purity are seen to suffer greatly even at the tirtha.

Verse 146 (skanda.7.3.146)

इदं हि कारणं प्रोक्तं क्षेत्राणां चैव गोपने। एतत्ते कथितं सर्वं सिद्धिर्येन सुदुर्ल्लभा

idaṁ hi kāraṇaṁ proktaṁ kṣetrāṇāṁ caiva gopane| etatte kathitaṁ sarvaṁ siddhiryena sudurllabhā

This, then, is the reason declared for keeping these fields hidden; all this I have told you — the reason accomplishment has become so hard to attain.

Verse 147 (skanda.7.3.147)

युगेयुगे तु तीर्थानि कीर्तितानि सुरेश्वरि। तेषां मे वल्लभं देवि प्रभासं क्षेत्रमेव च

yugeyuge tu tīrthāni kīrtitāni sureśvari| teṣāṁ me vallabhaṁ devi prabhāsaṁ kṣetrameva ca

O queen of the gods, in every age tirthas have been proclaimed; O Goddess, among them all, the field of Prabhasa alone is my most beloved.

Verse 148 (skanda.7.3.148)

इत्येतत्कथितं देवि रहस्यं पापनाशनम्। क्षेत्रबीजं महादेवि किमन्यत्परिपृच्छसि

ityetatkathitaṁ devi rahasyaṁ pāpanāśanam| kṣetrabījaṁ mahādevi kimanyatparipṛcchasi

Thus, O Goddess, has this sin-destroying mystery been told; O great Goddess, this is the very seed of the field — what more do you wish to ask?

Verse 149 (skanda.7.3.149)

इदं महापातकनाशनं ये श्रोष्यंति वै क्षेत्रमहाप्रभावम्। ते चापि यास्यन्ति मम प्रभावात्त्रिविष्टपं पुण्यजनाधिवासम्

idaṁ mahāpātakanāśanaṁ ye śroṣyaṁti vai kṣetramahāprabhāvam| te cāpi yāsyaṁti mama prabhāvāttriviṣṭapaṁ puṇyajanādhivāsam

Whoever shall hear of this great destroyer of sins, the mighty power of this field, they too, by my grace, shall go to heaven, the abode of the blessed.
