Chapter 302All chaptersChapter 304

Verse 1 (skanda.7.303.1)

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi uttare devamuttamam| yastamārādhayeddevaṁ mahāpātakanāśanam

Ishvara said: Then go, O great Goddess, to the excellent god in the north; whoever worships that god obtains the destruction of great sin.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.303.2)

tasyaiva paścime bhāge dhanuṣāṁ tritaye sthitam| śeṣādipramukhairnāgairmahatā tapasā yutaiḥ| samārādhya mahādevaṁ sthāpitaṁ liṁgamuttamam

In the western part of that very place, within three bow-lengths, is a linga which the serpents headed by Shesha, endowed with great austerity, established after duly worshipping Mahadeva.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.303.3)

yastamārādhayeddevaṁ sarpairārādhitaṁ purā| na viṣaṁ kramate dehe tasya janmāvadhi priye

Whoever worships that god, who was formerly worshipped by serpents—poison never spreads in his body for as long as he lives, O dear one.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.303.4)

sarpāstasya prasīdanti na kuṁthaṁti kadācana| tasmātsarvaṁ prayatnena talliṁgaṁ pūjayennaraḥ

Serpents remain pleased with him and never bite him; therefore, with all effort, a man should worship that linga.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.303.5)

tatra liṁgānyanekāni ṛṣibhiḥ sthāpitāni tu| gaṁgātīre mahāpuṇye paścime varavarṇini

There, O fair-complexioned one, on the bank of the Ganga, in the greatly holy western part, many lingas have been established by sages.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.303.6)

tāni dṛṣṭvā pūjayitvā sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate| aśvamedhasahasrasya phalaṁ prāpnoti mānavaḥ

Having seen and worshipped them, one is freed from all sins; a man obtains the fruit of a thousand horse-sacrifices.
