The Glory of Mahakala

Verse 1 (skanda.7.326.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तस्यैवोत्तरतः स्थितम्। महाकालेश्वरं देवं सर्वरक्षाकरं परम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tasyaivottarataḥ sthitam| mahākāleśvaraṁ devaṁ sarvarakṣākaraṁ param

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the god Mahakaleshvara, standing to the north of that place, the supreme protector of all.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.326.2)

अधिष्ठाता पुरस्यास्य भैरवो रुद्ररूपधृक्। दर्शे च पूर्णिमायां च महापूजां प्रकारयेत्

adhiṣṭhātā purasyāsya bhairavo rudrarūpadhṛk| darśe ca pūrṇimāyāṁ ca mahāpūjāṁ prakārayet

The presiding guardian of this city is Bhairava, who bears the form of Rudra. On the new-moon and full-moon days, great worship should be performed.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.326.3)

महोदये नरः स्नात्वा महाकालं प्रपश्यति। धनाढ्यो जायते लोके सप्तजन्मसहस्रकम्

mahodaye naraḥ snātvā mahākālaṁ prapaśyati| dhanāḍhyo jāyate loke saptajanmasahasrakam

A man who bathes at Mahodaya and beholds Mahakala becomes wealthy in this world for seven thousand births.
