Prabhasa Khanda · Chapter 365
The Glory of the Scattered Station-Lingas
Verse 1 (skanda.7.365.1)
īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi hiraṇyāyāśca uttare| siddhisthānāni divyāni yatra siddhā maharṣayaḥ
Ishvara said: Thereafter, O great Goddess, one should go north of the river Hiranya, where lie the divine Siddhi-sthanas (places of perfection) where great sages attained siddhi.
Verse 2 (skanda.7.365.2)
tatra liṁgānyanekāni śakyaṁte kathituṁ na hi| sāgraṁ śataṁ punastatra liṁgānāṁ pravaraṁ smṛtam
There stand countless lingas impossible to fully recount; yet more than a hundred lingas are there remembered as pre-eminent.
Verse 3 (skanda.7.365.3)
vajriṇyāstu taṭe devi liṁgānyekonaviṁśatiḥ| nyaṁkumatyāstaṭe devi sahasraṁ dviśatādhikam
O Goddess, on the bank of the Vajrini there are nineteen lingas; O Goddess, on the bank of the Nyankumati there are twelve hundred.
Verse 4 (skanda.7.365.4)
prādhānyena varārohe pūrve svāyaṁbhuveṁ'ntare| kapilāyāstaṭedevi liṁgānāṁ ṣaṣṭiruttamā
O fair one, chiefly in earlier times, within the Svayambhuva Manvantara, on the bank of the Kapila, O Goddess, there are sixty excellent lingas.
Verse 5 (skanda.7.365.5)
sarasvatyāṁ punastatra liṁgasaṁkhyā na vidyate| evaṁ paṁcamukhā devi liṁgamālā vibhūṣitā
On the Sarasvati, again, the number of lingas cannot even be counted. Thus, O Goddess, this garland of lingas is adorned with five faces (branches).
Verse 6 (skanda.7.365.6)
prabhāse kathitā devi paṁcasrotāḥ sarasvatī| yasyāḥ pravāhaiḥ saṁbhinnaṁ kṣetraṁ dvādaśayojanam
O Goddess, in Prabhasa the Sarasvati is declared to flow in five streams, by whose currents this field of twelve yojanas is pervaded.
Verse 7 (skanda.7.365.7)
tatra vāpīṣu kūpeṣu yatra tatrodbhavaṁ jalam| sārasvataṁ tu tajjñeyaṁ te dhanyā ye pibaṁti tat
Whatever water springs up there in the step-wells and wells is to be known as Sarasvata water; blessed are those who drink it.
Verse 8 (skanda.7.365.8)
yatratatra naraḥ snātvā samyacchraddhāsamanvitaḥ| sārasvatasnānaphalaṁ labhate nātra saṁśayaḥ
Wherever a man, endowed with true faith, bathes properly, he obtains the fruit of a Sarasvata bath — of this there is no doubt.
Verse 9 (skanda.7.365.9)
yatproktaṁ sparśaliṁgaṁ tu śrīsomeśeti viśrutam| prabhāsakṣetraliṁgānāṁ kalā tasyaiva śāṁkarī
That which is called the Sparsha-linga (the linga of touch) is renowned as Shri Someshvara; the Shankari (Shiva-related) portion of all the lingas of the Prabhasa field belongs to him alone.
Verse 10 (skanda.7.365.10)
yadvā tadvā pūjayitvā liṁgaṁ kṣetrasya madhyagam| śrīsomeśamiti jñātvā someśaḥ pūjito bhavet
Whatever linga it may be, by worshipping the linga standing at the center of the field, knowing it as Shri Someshvara, Someshvara himself is thereby worshipped.
