The Glory of Gangeshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.370.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि मंगलात्पश्चिमे स्थितम्। गंगास्रोतस्तथा लिंगं सुरार्कं च विशेषतः

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi maṁgalātpaścime sthitam| gaṁgāsrotastathā liṁgaṁ surārkaṁ ca viśeṣataḥ

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to what lies west of Mangala — the stream of the Ganga, and the linga there, and especially Suraarka.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.370.2)

तान्गच्छेद्विधिवद्देवि यदि यात्राफलेप्सुता। स्नात्वा पिण्डप्रदानं च कुर्यात्तत्र यथार्थतः। ब्राह्मणेभ्यस्तथा देयमन्नं भूरि सदक्षिणम्

tāngacchedvidhivaddevi yadi yātrāphalepsutā| snātvā piṇḍapradānaṁ ca kuryāttatra yathārthataḥ| brāhmaṇebhyastathā deyamannaṁ bhūri sadakṣiṇam

One should go to them duly, O Goddess, if one desires the fruit of pilgrimage; having bathed, one should truly perform the offering of pindas there, and likewise give abundant food, together with dakshina, to the brahmins.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.370.3)

इति ते कथितं मया प्रिये कलिपापौघविनाशनं शुभम्। निखिलं तीर्थमहोदयोदयं पठितं सद्विनिहंति पापसंहतिम्

iti te kathitaṁ mayā priye kalipāpaughavināśanaṁ śubham| nikhilaṁ tīrthamahodayodayaṁ paṭhitaṁ sadvinihaṁti pāpasaṁhatim

Thus, O beloved, has this auspicious teaching, destroyer of the flood of Kali-age sin, been told to you by me; when recited, this whole great arising of the tirthas' glory truly destroys the mass of sin.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.370.4)

इदं न देयं दुर्बुद्धेः सुतरां पापनाशनम्। श्रोतव्यं विधिना तद्वद्भविष्योक्तविधानतः

idaṁ na deyaṁ durbuddheḥ sutarāṁ pāpanāśanam| śrotavyaṁ vidhinā tadvadbhaviṣyoktavidhānataḥ

This, a thorough destroyer of sin, should not be given to one of evil intellect; it should be heard duly, according to the ordinance stated in the Bhavishya-purana.
