The Origin and Glory of Devakhata

Verse 1 (skanda.7.429.1)

॥ पुलस्त्य उवाच ॥ देवखातं ततो गच्छेत्सुपुण्यं तीर्थमुत्तमम् । यत्ख्यातिर्विबुधैः सर्वैः स्वयमेव व्यधीयत

pulastya uvāca | devakhātaṁ tato gacchetsupuṇyaṁ tīrthamuttamam | yatkhyātirvibudhaiḥ sarvaiḥ svayameva vyadhīyata

Pulastya said: Then one should go to Devakhata, a most sacred, excellent ford, whose fame was established by all the wise gods themselves.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.429.2)

तत्र यः कुरुते श्राद्धममावास्यां विशेषतः । कन्यागते रवौ राजन्स लभेत्परमं पदम् । पितॄन्स तारयत्येव प्राप्तानपि सुदुर्गतिम्

tatra yaḥ kurute śrāddhamamāvāsyāṁ viśeṣataḥ | kanyāgate ravau rājansa labhetparamaṁ padam | pitṝnsa tārayatyeva prāptānapi sudurgatim

He who performs shraddha there, especially on the new moon, when the sun is in Virgo, O king, attains the supreme state; he delivers even his forefathers who have fallen into a most evil state.
