The Glory of Kapileshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.53.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि कपिलेश्वरमुत्तमम्। तस्यैव पूर्वदिग्भागे नातिदूरे व्यवस्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi kapileśvaramuttamam| tasyaiva pūrvadigbhāge nātidūre vyavasthitam

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should proceed to the excellent Kapileshvara, situated not far away in the eastern part of that very place.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.53.2)

लिंगं महाप्रभावं तु दर्शनात्पापनाशनम्। कपिलो नाम राजर्षिर्यत्र तप्त्वा महातपः

liṅgaṁ mahāprabhāvaṁ tu darśanātpāpanāśanam| kapilo nāma rājarṣiryatra taptvā mahātapaḥ

That linga is of great power, destroying sin by mere sight; there the royal sage named Kapila, having performed great austerity,

Verse 3 (skanda.7.53.3)

संप्राप्तः परमां सिद्धिं प्रतिष्ठाप्य महेश्वरम्। देवसांनिध्यमीशानं तस्मिँल्लिंगे सदा हरिः

saṁprāptaḥ paramāṁ siddhiṁ pratiṣṭhāpya maheśvaram| tasmiṁlliṅge devasāṁnidhyamīśānaṁ sadā hariḥ

attained supreme accomplishment and installed Maheshvara there; in that linga, Ishana and Hari ever abide together in divine communion.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.53.4)

शुक्लपक्षे चतुर्दश्यां सर्वलोकहितार्थतः। सप्तकृत्वो महादेवं सोमेशं कपिलेश्वरम्। यः पश्येत्प्रयतो भूत्वा स गोदानफलं लभेत्

śuklapakṣe caturdaśyāṁ sarvalokahitārthataḥ| saptakṛtvo mahādevaṁ someśaṁ kapileśvaram| yaḥ paśyetprayato bhūtvā sa godānaphalaṁ labhet

On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight, for the welfare of all the worlds, whoever, having become disciplined, beholds the great god Somesha Kapileshvara seven times obtains the merit of the gift of a cow.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.53.5)

तिलधेनुं च यो दद्यात्तस्मिंस्तीर्थे समाहितः। तिलसंख्यायुगान्येव स स्वर्गे वसति प्रिये

tiladhenuṁ ca yo dadyāttasmiṁstīrthe samāhitaḥ| tilasaṁkhyāyugānyeva sa svarge vasati priye

O beloved, whoever, with focused mind, offers a sesame-cow at this tirtha dwells in heaven for as many yugas as there are sesame seeds in that gift.
