The Glory of Vimaleshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.55.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तत्पूर्वे विमलेश्वरम्। गौर्याः पूर्वं समीपस्थं नातिदूरे व्यवस्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tatpūrve vimaleśvaram| gauryāḥ pūrvaṁ samīpasthaṁ nātidūre vyavasthitam

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go east from there to Vimaleshvara, situated close by — to the east of Gauri's shrine — not too far away.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.55.2)

गुरोर्नैर्ऋत्यदिग्भागे स्थितं पापप्रणाशनम्। अपि कृत्वा महापापं नारी वा पुरुषोऽपि वा

gurornairṛtyadigbhāge sthitaṁ pāpapraṇāśanam| api kṛtvā mahāpāpaṁ nārī vā puruṣo'pi vā

It stands in the southwest direction from Guru's shrine, and it destroys sin; whether woman or man, even one who has committed a great sin,

Verse 3 (skanda.7.55.3)

क्षयाभिभूतदेहो वा तं समभ्यर्च्य भक्तितः। सर्वदुःखान्तगो भूत्वा निर्मलं पदमाप्नुयात्

kṣayābhibhūtadeho vā taṁ samabhyarcya bhaktitaḥ| sarvaduḥkhāntago bhūtvā nirmalaṁ padamāpnuyāt

or one whose body is afflicted by the wasting disease, having worshipped it with devotion, comes to the end of all sorrows and attains the stainless state.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.55.4)

गंधर्वसेना यत्रैव विमलाऽभूत्क्षयान्विता। विमलेश्वरनाम्ना वै तल्लिंगं प्रथितं क्षितौ

gaṁdharvasenā yatraiva vimalā'bhūtkṣayānvitā| vimaleśvaranāmnā vai talliṅgaṁ prathitaṁ kṣitau

There, where Gandharvasena, afflicted with the wasting disease, became pure and cured, that linga became renowned on earth by the name Vimaleshvara.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.55.5)

इति ते कथितं सर्वं विमलेश्वरसूचकम्। माहात्म्यं सर्वपापघ्नं तुरीयं भवसुन्दरि

iti te kathitaṁ sarvaṁ vimaleśvarasūcakam| māhātmyaṁ sarvapāpaghnaṁ turīyaṁ bhavasundari

Thus, O beautiful one, has this entire fourth glory been told to you, revealing Vimaleshvara — the destroyer of all sins.
