Chapter 55All chaptersChapter 57

Verse 1 (skanda.7.56.1)

īśvara uvāca| atha te paṁcamaṁ vacmi siddhaliṁgaṁ mahāprabham| brahmaṇo nairṛte bhāge dhanuṣāṁ ṣoḍaśe sthitam

Ishvara said: Now I tell you of the fifth Siddha-linga, of great splendor, situated sixteen bow-lengths (dhanus) away in the southwest direction from Brahma's shrine.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.56.2)

rāhuliṁgasya cābhyāśe liṁgaṁ dhanadanirmitam| dhanadatvaṁ ca saṁprāpto yatra taptvā mahattapaḥ

Near the linga of Rahu is the linga made by Dhanada (Kubera); there, by performing great austerity, he attained the state of Dhanada, lord of wealth.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.56.3)

saṁsthāpya vidhivatpūjya liṁgaṁ varṣasahasrakam| alakādhipatirjātastatra śaṁbhoḥ prasādataḥ

Having established the linga and worshipped it duly for a thousand years, he became, by the grace of Shambhu, the lord of Alaka.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.56.4)

jātiṁ smṛtvā pūrvikāṁ tu jñātvā dīpadaśāphalam| śivarātre prabhāvaṁ tu prabhāsaṁ punarāgataḥ

Recalling his former birth, and having learned the merit of the lamp-offering and the power of Shivaratri, he returned once more to Prabhasa.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.56.5)

prabhāvātiśayaṁ jñātvā sthāpayāmāsa śaṁkaram| tatra pratyakṣatāṁ nītastapasā yena śaṁkaraḥ

Having recognized the surpassing power of that place, he installed Shankara there; through his austerity Shankara was brought there into visible, manifest presence.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.56.6)

mahābhaktyā mahādevi tasmiṁlliṁge'vatāritaḥ| taṁ dṛṣṭvā mānavo bhaktyā pūjayitvā yathāvidhi

O great Goddess, through great devotion, Shankara was made to descend into that linga. Whoever beholds it and worships it with devotion, according to proper rite,

Verse 7 (skanda.7.56.7)

paṁcopacāraiḥ sadbhaktyā gaṁdhadhūpānulepanaiḥ| tasyānvaye daridraśca kadāpi na bhaviṣyati

with the five offerings, with true devotion, with fragrance, incense, and anointing — in his lineage poverty shall never arise.

Verse 8 (skanda.7.56.8)

ye caitatpūjayiṣyaṁti liṁgaṁ bhaktiyutā narāḥ| ajeyāste bhaviṣyaṁti śatrūṇāṁ darpanāśanāḥ

And those devoted men who shall worship this linga will become unconquerable, destroyers of the pride of their enemies.

Verse 9 (skanda.7.56.9)

iti te kathitaṁ sarvaṁ dhanadeśamahodayam| śrutvānumodya yatnena daridro naiva jāyate

Thus has this entire great glory of Dhanada been told to you. Having heard it and diligently rejoiced in it, one is never born into poverty.
