The Glory of Vadaveshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.65.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि लिंगं वै वाडवेश्वरम्। लक्ष्मीशादुत्तरे भागे विशालाक्ष्याश्च दक्षिणे

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi liṅgaṁ vai vāḍaveśvaram| lakṣmīśāduttare bhāge viśālākṣyāśca dakṣiṇe

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the linga called Vadaveshvara, situated in the northern part from Lakshmisha, and to the south of Vishalakshi.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.65.2)

स्थितं महाप्रभावं हि वाडवेन प्रतिष्ठितम्। कृतस्मरो यदा दग्धः पर्वतो वाडवाग्निना

sthitaṁ mahāprabhāvaṁ hi vāḍavena pratiṣṭhitam| kṛtasmaro yadā dagdhaḥ parvato vāḍavāgninā

That linga, of great power, was established by Vadava. When that mountain was consumed to ash by the submarine fire (vadavagni),

Verse 3 (skanda.7.65.3)

समीकृत्याखिलं स्थानं तेन लिंगं प्रतिष्ठितम्। पूजयेत्तं विधानेन दश संस्नाप्य शंकरम्

samīkṛtyākhilaṁ sthānaṁ tena liṅgaṁ pratiṣṭhitam| pūjayettaṁ vidhānena daśa saṁsnāpya śaṁkaram

he leveled that entire place and established the linga there. One should worship it according to rule, bathing Shankara ten times,

Verse 4 (skanda.7.65.4)

दधि दद्याच्च वै तत्र ब्राह्मणे वेदपारगे। सोऽग्निलोकमवाप्नोति सम्यग्यात्राफलं लभेत्

dadhi dadyācca vai tatra brāhmaṇe vedapārage| so'gnilokamavāpnoti samyagyātrāphalaṁ labhet

and should give curd there to a Brahmin well-versed in the Vedas. Thereby a man attains the world of Agni and obtains the complete fruit of the pilgrimage.
