The Glory of Kameshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.67.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महालिंगं कामेश्वरमिति श्रुतम्। कामेनाराधितं पूर्वं दैत्यसूदनपश्चिमे

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahāliṅgaṁ kāmeśvaramiti śrutam| kāmenārādhitaṁ pūrvaṁ daityasūdanapaścime

Ishvara said: Then one should go to the great linga known as Kameshvara, formerly worshipped by Kama, situated to the west of Daityasudana.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.67.2)

धनुषां सप्तके तत्र स्थितं देवि महाप्रभम्। निर्दग्धस्तु यदा काम स्तृतीयेनाग्निना मम

dhanuṣāṁ saptake tatra sthitaṁ devi mahāprabham| nirdagdhastu yadā kāma stṛtīyenāgninā mama

O Goddess, it stands there at seven bow-lengths, of great splendor. When Kama was burnt to ashes by the fire of my third eye,

Verse 3 (skanda.7.67.3)

तदा वर्षसहस्रं तु समाराध्य महेश्वरम्। प्रपेदे कामनासर्गं यत्रानंगः पुरा किल

tadā varṣasahasraṁ tu samārādhya maheśvaram| prapede kāmanāsargaṁ yatrānaṁgaḥ purā kila

then, having worshipped Maheshvara for a thousand years, he, the Bodiless One, obtained there of old the fulfillment of his desire.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.67.4)

तेन कामेश्वरंनाम ख्यातं लिंगं धरातले। सर्वपापहरं देवि सर्वकामफलप्रदम्

tena kāmeśvaraṁnāma khyātaṁ liṅgaṁ dharātale| sarvapāpaharaṁ devi sarvakāmaphalapradam

Therefore, O Goddess, that linga became renowned on earth by the name Kameshvara — remover of all sins, bestower of the fruit of all desires.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.67.5)

त्रयोदश्यां विधानेन शुक्लायां मासि माधवे। संपूज्य तं विधानेन स स्त्रीणां कामवद्भवेत्

trayodaśyāṁ vidhānena śuklāyāṁ māsi mādhave| saṁpūjya taṁ vidhānena sa strīṇāṁ kāmavadbhavet

On the thirteenth of the bright fortnight in the month of Madhava (Vaishakha), having worshipped it according to rite, one becomes desired and beloved by women.
