The Glory of Usheshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.71.1)

ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि लिंगं तत्रैव संस्थितम्। दक्षिणे वरुणेशस्य धनुषां त्रितये स्थितम्

tato gacchenmahādevi liṅgaṁ tatraiva saṁsthitam| dakṣiṇe varuṇeśasya dhanuṣāṁ tritaye sthitam

Thereafter, O great Goddess, one should go to the Linga situated right there, standing three bow-lengths to the south of Varunesha.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.71.2)

भार्यया वरुणस्यैव उषा नाम्न्या वरानने। कृत्वा तपो महाघोरं भर्तृदुःखपरीतया

bhāryayā varuṇasyaiva uṣā nāmnyā varānane| kṛtvā tapo mahāghoraṁ bhartṛduḥkhaparītayā

O fair-faced one, Varuna's own wife named Usha, overwhelmed with grief for her husband, performed a most terrible austerity.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.71.3)

स्थापितं तु महल्लिंगं सर्वसिद्धिप्रदायकम्। उषेश्वरेति विख्यातं सर्वसिद्धिप्रपूजितम्

sthāpitaṁ tu mahalliṅgaṁ sarvasiddhipradāyakam| uṣeśvareti vikhyātaṁ sarvasiddhiprapūjitam

She installed a great Linga that bestows all attainments, renowned as Usheshvara, worshipped by those who seek every kind of accomplishment.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.71.4)

यस्तत्पूजयते भक्त्या लिंगं पापप्रणाशनम्। महापापौघयुक्तोऽपि स गच्छेत्परमां गतिम्

yastatpūjayate bhaktyā liṅgaṁ pāpapraṇāśanam| mahāpāpaughayukto'pi sa gacchetparamāṁ gatim

He who worships with devotion that sin-destroying Linga, even though burdened with a mass of great sins, attains the supreme goal.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.71.5)

स्त्रीणां सौभाग्यफलदं दुःखदौर्भाग्यनाशनम्

strīṇāṁ saubhāgyaphaladaṁ duḥkhadaurbhāgyanāśanam

It bestows the fruit of good fortune upon women and destroys sorrow and misfortune.
