The Glory of Jalavasa Ganapati
Verse 1 (skanda.7.72.1)
īśvara uvāca| tatraiva saṁsthitaṁ paśyedvighneśaṁ jalavāsasam| sarvavighnavināśāya sarvakāryaprasiddhaye
Ishvara said: There, right at that spot, one should behold Vighnesha (Ganesha) dwelling in the waters, for the destruction of all obstacles and the accomplishment of all undertakings.
Verse 2 (skanda.7.72.2)
varuṇena mahādevi taponirvighnahetave| pūjito jalajairbhaktyā jalavāsāstataḥ smṛtaḥ
O great Goddess, in order to make his austerity free of obstacles, Varuna worshipped him with devotion using water-born (lotus) flowers; hence he has since been remembered as Jalavasa (water-dweller).
Verse 3 (skanda.7.72.3)
caturthyāṁ tarpayedbhaktyā gandhaiḥ puṣpaiḥ sa modakaiḥ| yathābhaktyanusāreṇa tasya tuṣyedgaṇādhipaḥ
He who devoutly offers libations to him on the fourth lunar day with fragrant substances, flowers, and sweet modaka cakes — the Lord of the Ganas becomes pleased according to the measure of his devotion.
