The Glory of Lakulishvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.79.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि लकुलीशं महाप्रभम्। तस्य पश्चिमदिग्भागे धनुषां सप्तके स्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi lakulīśaṁ mahāprabham| tasya paścimadigbhāge dhanuṣāṁ saptake sthitam

Ishvara said: Thereafter, O great Goddess, one should go to the mighty Lakulisha, situated seven bow-lengths to the west of that place.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.79.2)

पापघ्नं सर्वजंतूनां शांतं मूर्तिस्थितं प्रभुम्। समायातं महाक्षेत्रे तत्र कायावरोहणात्

pāpaghnaṁ sarvajaṁtūnāṁ śāṁtaṁ mūrtisthitaṁ prabhum| samāyātaṁ mahākṣetre tatra kāyāvarohaṇāt

This Lord, tranquil and abiding in embodied form, destroys the sins of all creatures; he came to this great sacred field from Kayavarohana.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.79.3)

कृत्वा तत्र तपश्चोग्रं दीक्षयित्वात्मशिष्य कान्। कुशकादींश्च चतुर उक्त्वा शास्त्राण्यनेकशः

kṛtvā tatra tapaścograṁ dīkṣayitvātmaśiṣya kān| kuśakādīṁśca catura uktvā śāstrāṇyanekaśaḥ

Having performed fierce austerity there, he initiated his four disciples beginning with Kushaka, and taught them numerous scriptures,

Verse 4 (skanda.7.79.4)

न्यायवैशेषिकादीनि ततः सिद्धिं परां गतः। एवं ज्ञात्वा तु यः सम्यक्तं समर्चयते नरः

nyāyavaiśeṣikādīni tataḥ siddhiṁ parāṁ gataḥ| evaṁ jñātvā tu yaḥ samyaktaṁ samarcayate naraḥ

including Nyaya, Vaisheshika, and others, and thereafter attained supreme accomplishment. The man who, knowing this, duly worships him,

Verse 5 (skanda.7.79.5)

कार्त्तिक्यां तु विशेषेण अयने चोत्तरेपि वा। विद्यादानं च तत्रैव दद्याद्विप्राय शालिने

kārttikyāṁ tu viśeṣeṇa ayane cottarepi vā| vidyādānaṁ ca tatraiva dadyādviprāya śāline

especially on the full moon of Karttika or during the northern solstice, and should there give a gift of learning to a cultured Brahmin,

Verse 6 (skanda.7.79.6)

सप्तजन्मानि विप्रस्य धनाढ्यस्य कुले शुभे। जायते मतिमान्धीमाञ्छ्रीमानेवं पुनःपुनः

saptajanmāni viprasya dhanāḍhyasya kule śubhe| jāyate matimāndhīmāñchrīmānevaṁ punaḥpunaḥ

he is born for seven successive births in the auspicious lineage of a wealthy Brahmin, and thus becomes, again and again, wise, intelligent, and prosperous.
