Daridrya Dahana Shiva Ashtakam

viśveśvarāya narakārṇava tāraṇāya karṇāmṛtāya śaśiśekhara dhāraṇāya | karpūrakāntidhāvalāya jaṭādharāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥1॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो समस्त विश्व के ईश्वर हैं, जो नरक रूपी दुःख के सागर से पार उतारते हैं और जिनके वचन कानों को अमृत के समान लगते हैं। जो चंद्रमा को मस्तक पर धारण करते हैं, कर्पूर जैसी श्वेत कांति से देदीप्यमान हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — the Lord of the universe, who ferries beings across the ocean of suffering and hell, whose words pour like nectar into the ears. He who bears the crescent moon upon his matted locks, who shines with the pure white brilliance of camphor — I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of the sorrows of poverty.

gaurīpriyāya rajanīśa kalādharāya kālāntakāya bhujagādhipa kaṅkaṇāya | gaṅgādharāya gajarāja vimardanāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥2॥

उस शिव को प्रणाम है जो माता गौरी के प्रिय हैं, जो चंद्रकला को धारण करते हैं और जो काल के भी काल हैं। जो सर्पराज को कंगन की तरह पहनते हैं, गंगा को जटाओं में धारण करते हैं और जिन्होंने गजराज का मान चूर किया — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को नमस्कार है।

Salutations to Shiva — the beloved of Goddess Gauri, who adorns himself with the crescent moon, and who is the ultimate destroyer of Kala, the god of death and time. He who wears the king of serpents as a bracelet around his wrist, who holds the mighty Ganga in his locks, and who subdued the king of elephants — I bow to that Shiva, the burner of poverty's sorrow.

bhaktipriyāya bhavaroga bhayāpahāya ugrāya durgabhava sāgara tāraṇāya | jyotirmayāya guṇanāma sunṛtyakāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥3॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो भक्ति से प्रसन्न होते हैं, जो संसार रूपी रोग और भय को हरते हैं और जो उग्र रूप धारण कर इस कठिन संसार-सागर से पार लगाते हैं। जो ज्योतिर्मय हैं और सुंदर नृत्य करते हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — who is dear to devotion, who removes the fear arising from the disease of worldly existence, and who is the fierce one who ferries souls across the difficult ocean of samsara. He who is filled with pure radiance and light, who dances with supreme grace to the accompaniment of virtuous names — I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of poverty's suffering.

carmāmbarāya śavabhasma vilepanāya bhālekṣaṇāya maṇikuṇḍala maṇḍitāya | mañjīrapādayugalāya jaṭādharāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥4॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो चर्म को वस्त्र की तरह धारण करते हैं और शमशान की भस्म को अपने तन पर लगाते हैं, जिनके मस्तक पर तीसरा नेत्र है और जो मणियों के कुण्डलों से सुशोभित हैं। जिनके चरणों में मंजीर बजते हैं और जो जटाधारी हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — who wears the hide of animals as his garment and smears the ash of the cremation ground upon his body, who possesses the third eye blazing on his forehead, and who is adorned with jeweled earrings. He whose two feet are graced with jingling anklet bells, and who bears the great matted locks — I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of poverty's sorrows.

pañcānanāya phaṇirājavibhūṣaṇāya hemāṃśukāya bhuvanat raya maṇḍitāya | ānandabhūmi varadāya tamopahāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥5॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो पंचमुखी हैं और सर्पराज से विभूषित हैं, जिनकी कांति सोने जैसी है और जो तीनों लोकों को सुशोभित करते हैं। जो आनंद का वरदान देते हैं और अज्ञान के अंधकार को दूर करते हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — the five-faced one, adorned with the great king of hooded serpents, who possesses the golden brilliance of the heavens and who illumines all three worlds. He who grants the boon of entering the realm of bliss, and who completely removes darkness and ignorance — I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of the suffering born of poverty.

bhānupriyāya bhavasāgara tāraṇāya kālāntakāya kamalāsana pūjitāya | netratrayāya śubhalakṣaṇa lakṣitāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥6॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो सूर्य को प्रिय हैं और संसार-सागर से पार लगाने वाले हैं, जो काल के संहारक हैं और जिनकी पूजा स्वयं कमलासन ब्रह्मा करते हैं। जिनके तीन नेत्र हैं और जो शुभ लक्षणों से युक्त हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — who is dear to the sun and who carries souls across the vast ocean of worldly existence, who is the destroyer of Kala and who is worshipped even by Brahma seated on the lotus. He who possesses three eyes that see all, and who is adorned with all auspicious marks — I bow to that Shiva, the one who burns away poverty's sorrow.

rāmapriyāya raghunātha varapradāya nāgapriyāya narakārṇava tāraṇāya | puṇyeṣu puṇyabharitāya surārcitāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥7॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो राम के प्रिय हैं और रघुनाथ को वरदान देने वाले हैं, जो नागों को प्रिय हैं और नरक के सागर से पार उतारने वाले हैं। जो सभी पुण्यों में सर्वोच्च पुण्य से परिपूर्ण हैं और देवताओं द्वारा पूजे जाते हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — who is beloved of Rama and who grants boons to the Lord of the Raghu dynasty, who is dear to the serpents and who ferries souls across the ocean of hellish suffering. He who is the most meritorious among all meritorious beings, and who is worshipped by all the gods — I bow to that Shiva, the one who burns away the pain of poverty.

mukteśvarāya phaladāya gaṇeśvarāya gītapriyāya vṛṣabheśvara vāhanāya | mātaṅgacarma vasanāya maheśvarāya dāridryaduḥkhadahanāya namaḥ śivāya ॥8॥

उस शिव को नमस्कार है जो मोक्ष के दाता हैं, सभी फलों को प्रदान करने वाले हैं और गणों के ईश्वर हैं, जो गीत-संगीत से प्रसन्न होते हैं और वृषभ (नंदी) को वाहन के रूप में धारण करते हैं। जो हाथी के चर्म को वस्त्र की तरह पहनते हैं और महेश्वर हैं — ऐसे दारिद्र्य के दुःख को जलाने वाले शिव को प्रणाम है।

Salutations to Shiva — the lord of liberation, the giver of all fruits and results, and the lord of the Ganas, who is fond of sacred music and song, and who rides the noble bull Nandi as his vehicle. He who wears the hide of the elephant as his garment, who is the supreme Maheshwara — I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of poverty's sorrow, who grants all auspicious results to those who chant this hymn with devotion.
