Kalabhairava Ashtakam

devarājasevyamānapāvanāṅghripañkajaṃ vyālayajñasūtramindusekharaṃ kṛpākaram । nāradādiyogivṛndavanditaṃ digambaraṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।1।।

मैं काशी नगरी के अधिपति कालभैरव की पूजा करता हूँ, जिनके पवित्र चरण-कमलों की सेवा देवराज इन्द्र करते हैं, जो सर्प को यज्ञोपवीत की तरह धारण करते हैं और चन्द्रमा को शिरोभूषण बनाए हुए हैं। वे कृपा के सागर हैं, नारद आदि योगीजन उनकी वंदना करते हैं और वे दिगम्बर रूप में विराजमान हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, whose purifying lotus feet are served by Indra, the king of gods, who wears a serpent as his sacred thread and bears the crescent moon on his crown, and who is the bestower of compassion. He is saluted by the assembly of yogis headed by Narada, and he moves clad in the directions themselves as his garment.

bhānukoṭibhāsvaraṃ bhavābdhitārakaṃ paraṃ nīlakaṇṭhamīpsitārthadāyakaṃ trilocanam । kālakālamambujākṣamakṣaśūlamakṣaraṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।2।।

मैं काशी नगरी के अधिनाथ कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जो करोड़ों सूर्यों के समान प्रकाशमान हैं, जो संसाररूपी सागर से पार उतारने वाले परम तत्त्व हैं, नीलकण्ठ हैं और भक्तों की समस्त इच्छाएँ पूरी करते हैं। वे तीन नेत्रों वाले, काल के भी काल, कमल-नयन, त्रिशूलधारी और अक्षर (अविनाशी) हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, who blazes with the brilliance of a crore of suns, who is the supreme liberator from the ocean of worldly existence, who is blue-throated and the bestower of all desired objects, and who has three eyes. He is the death of death itself, with lotus eyes, bearing the trident, and is imperishable and eternal.

śūlaṭaṅkapāśadaṇḍapāṇimādikāraṇaṃ śyāmakāyamādidevamaakṣaraṃ nirāmayam । bhīmavikramaṃ prabhuṃ vicitratāṇḍavapriyaṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।3।।

मैं काशी के अधिपति कालभैरव की वंदना करता हूँ, जिनके हाथों में शूल, टङ्क (कुल्हाड़ी), पाश और दण्ड हैं, जो सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि के आदि कारण हैं। उनका शरीर श्यामवर्ण (नीलाभ) है, वे आदिदेव, अविनाशी और सभी रोगों से मुक्त हैं। वे भयंकर पराक्रम वाले प्रभु हैं और विचित्र ताण्डव नृत्य में आनंद लेते हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, who holds in his hands the trident, axe, noose, and staff, and who is the primordial cause of all creation. His body is dark-hued; he is the primordial God, imperishable and free from all disease and affliction. He is of awe-inspiring prowess, the supreme lord who delights in the wondrous Tandava dance.

bhuktimuktiidāyakaṃ praśastacāruvirgrahaṃ bhaktavatsalaṃ sthitaṃ samastalokavignaham । vinikvañanmanojñahemakiṅkiṇīlasatkaṭiṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।4।।

मैं काशी के अधिपति कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जो भक्तों को भोग और मोक्ष दोनों प्रदान करते हैं और जिनका रूप अत्यंत सुन्दर और प्रशंसनीय है। वे भक्तवत्सल हैं और समस्त लोकों के स्वामी के रूप में विराजमान हैं। उनकी कमर सुंदर सुवर्णमय किंकिणियों (घुँघरुओं) से सुशोभित है जो मधुर ध्वनि उत्पन्न करती हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, who bestows both worldly enjoyment and liberation, and whose form is excellent, glorious, and beautiful. He is affectionate toward his devotees and stands as the lord and embodiment of all the worlds. His waist is adorned with pleasing golden bells that tinkle with a melodious sound.

dharmasetupālakaṃ tvadharmamārganāśakaṃ karmapāśamocakaṃ suśarmadāyakaṃ vibhum । suvarṇavarṇaśeṣapāśaśobhitāṅgamaṇḍalaṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।5।।

मैं काशी के अधिनाथ विभु कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जो धर्मरूपी सेतु के रक्षक हैं, अधर्म के मार्ग का नाश करने वाले हैं और कर्मबन्धन से मुक्त करने वाले हैं। वे परम कल्याण के दाता हैं और उनके अङ्गों का समूह सुवर्णवर्णीय सर्पों से अलंकृत होकर शोभायमान है।

I worship Kalabhairava, the all-pervading lord of the city of Kashi, who is the guardian and protector of the bridge of righteousness, the destroyer of all paths of unrighteousness, and the one who liberates beings from the bondage of karma. He is the bestower of supreme happiness and welfare, and his body and its entire orb are beautifully adorned with serpents of golden hue.

ratnapādukāprabhābhirāmapādayugmakaṃ nityamadvitīyamiṣṭadaivataṃ nirañjanam । mṛtyudarpanāśanaṃ karāladaṃṣṭramokṣadaṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।6।।

मैं काशी के अधिपति कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जिनके चरण-युगल रत्नखचित पादुकाओं की दीप्ति से परम मनोरम लग रहे हैं, जो नित्य, अद्वितीय और निरञ्जन (निर्मल) इष्टदेव हैं। वे मृत्यु के अहंकार को नष्ट करने वाले हैं, उनके दाँत अत्यंत भयंकर हैं, फिर भी वे अपने भक्तों को मोक्ष प्रदान करने वाले हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, whose pair of feet are made beautiful by the radiance of his jeweled sandals, and who is the eternal, incomparable, and spotlessly pure cherished deity. He is the destroyer of the arrogance of death, with terrible fangs, and yet he is the bestower of liberation and final moksha upon his devotees.

aṭṭahāsabhinnapadmajāṇḍakośasaṃtatiṃ dṛṣṭipātanaṣṭapāpajālamugraśāsanam । aṣṭasiddhidāyakaṃ kapālamālikādharaṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।7।।

मैं काशी के अधिनाथ कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जिनके प्रचण्ड अट्टहास से ब्रह्मा द्वारा निर्मित समस्त ब्रह्माण्डों का विस्तार विदीर्ण हो जाता है और जिनकी दृष्टि मात्र से पापों का समस्त जाल नष्ट हो जाता है। वे उग्र शासन करने वाले हैं, अष्ट सिद्धियों के दाता हैं और कपालों की माला धारण करते हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, whose thunderous laughter splits apart the entire expanse of the cosmic egg created by Brahma, and whose mere glance destroys the entire web of sins. He rules with fierce and absolute authority, bestows the eight supernatural powers upon his devotees, and wears a garland of skulls around his neck.

bhūtasaṅghanāyakaṃ viśālakīrtidāyakaṃ kāśivāsalokpuṇyapāpaśodhakaṃ vibhum । nītimārgakovidaṃ purātanaṃ jagatpatiṃ kāśikāpurādhināthakālabhairavaṃ bhaje ।।8।।

मैं काशी के अधिपति कालभैरव की भक्ति करता हूँ, जो भूत-गणों के नायक हैं, विशाल कीर्ति प्रदान करने वाले हैं और काशीवासियों के पुण्य-पाप की जाँच करने वाले सर्वव्यापी विभु हैं। वे नीतिमार्ग के पारंगत विद्वान, पुरातन और समस्त जगत् के स्वामी हैं।

I worship Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi, who is the leader of all the hosts of spirits and beings, the bestower of vast and glorious fame, and the all-pervading lord who purifies and examines the merit and sin of the people who dwell in Kashi. He is the ancient, primordial lord of the universe, supremely expert in the path of righteousness and ethical conduct.
