Krishnashtakam

vasudeva-sutaṃ devaṃ kaṃsa-cāṇūra-mardanam| dēvakī-paramānandaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||1||

मैं वसुदेव के पुत्र, कंस और चाणूर का नाश करने वाले, देवकी के परमानंद, श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ, जो समस्त जगत के गुरु हैं। वे दिव्य होते हुए भी मानवीय कष्टों के बीच जन्मे और संसार को सत्य का मार्ग दिखाया।

I bow to Krishna, the divine son of Vasudeva, the destroyer of the tyrants Kamsa and Chanura. He is the supreme bliss of Devaki and the eternal teacher of the entire universe. In him, earthly birth and cosmic authority are united — a king who began life in a prison cell and became the guru of all creation.

atasī-puṣpa-saṅkāśaṃ hāra-nūpura-śobhitam| ratna-kaṅkaṇa-keyūraṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||2||

मैं उन श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिनका वर्ण अतसी के नीले फूल के समान है, जो हार और नूपुर से सुशोभित हैं, तथा जो रत्नजड़ित कंगन और बाजूबंद धारण करते हैं। उनका सौंदर्य केवल बाहरी नहीं, बल्कि उनकी दिव्यता का प्रकटन है।

I bow to Krishna, whose complexion resembles the blue-violet flax flower, who is adorned with garlands and anklets, and who wears jeweled bracelets and armlets. His entire form is a symphony of beauty — each ornament not merely decorative, but a symbol of divine grace made visible. He is the universe's teacher, clothed in splendor.

kuṭilālaka-saṃyuktaṃ pūrṇa-candra-nibhānanam| vilāsinaṃ mahā-yoginaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||3||

मैं श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिनके घुंघराले केश सुंदर हैं, जिनका मुखमंडल पूर्ण चंद्रमा के समान प्रकाशमान है, जो विलासी और क्रीड़ाशील होते हुए भी महान योगी हैं। उनका व्यक्तित्व यह सिखाता है कि आनंद और आध्यात्मिक गहराई साथ-साथ चल सकते हैं।

I bow to Krishna, whose curly locks adorn him beautifully, whose face shines like the full moon, who is gracefully playful yet simultaneously the greatest of all yogis. This paradox is Krishna's essence — he dances and plays the flute while holding the deepest cosmic awareness. He teaches that joy and spiritual depth are not opposites.

vanamālā-virājantaṃ padma-patrāyatekṣaṇam| gopālaṃ kaiṭabhāriṃ ca kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||4||

मैं श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो वन की माला से विराजमान हैं, जिनके नेत्र कमल के पत्ते के समान विशाल और सुंदर हैं, जो गोपालक भी हैं और कैटभ के शत्रु भी। उनका व्यक्तित्व कोमलता और शक्ति का अद्भुत संगम है।

I bow to Krishna, who shines with a garland of forest flowers, whose eyes are wide and beautiful like lotus petals, who is the gentle protector of cows and simultaneously the destroyer of the demon Kaitabha. He embodies the complete range of divine power — tender enough to care for a calf, fierce enough to annihilate cosmic evil.

mandāra-gandha-saṃyuktaṃ cāru-hāsaṃ caturbhujam| barhipiñchāvacūḍaṃ ca kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||5||

मैं श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो मंदार पुष्प की सुगंध से युक्त हैं, जिनकी मुस्कान मन को मोह लेती है, जो चतुर्भुज हैं और जिनके मुकुट में मोर का पंख सुशोभित है। मोर का पंख प्रकृति और दिव्यता के मिलन का प्रतीक है।

I bow to Krishna, who is fragrant with the scent of mandara flowers, whose smile is utterly enchanting, who bears four divine arms, and who wears the peacock feather as his crown jewel. The peacock feather — plucked from nature's most extravagant display — sits atop the Supreme Being, reminding us that beauty, nature, and the divine are inseparable.

utphulla-padma-patrākṣaṃ nīla-jīmūta-sannibham| yādavānāṃ śiro-ratnaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||6||

मैं श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिनके नेत्र पूर्ण विकसित कमल के पत्तों के समान हैं, जिनकी आभा नीले मेघ के समान है, और जो यादव वंश के मुकुटमणि हैं। नीले मेघ की उपमा बताती है कि जो बाहर से गहरा दिखता है, वही जीवन देने वाली वर्षा लेकर आता है।

I bow to Krishna, whose eyes are like fully blossomed lotus petals, whose complexion resembles the dark rain cloud, and who is the crown jewel of the entire Yadava dynasty. The image of the rain cloud is profound — the dark cloud that brings life-giving rain is the same hue as Krishna, suggesting that he who appears dark to the world is the very source of nourishment and renewal.

rukmiṇī-keli-saṃyuktaṃ pītāmbara-suśobhitam| avāpta-tulasī-gandhaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagad-gurum||7||

मैं श्रीकृष्ण को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो रुक्मिणी के साथ दिव्य क्रीड़ा में संयुक्त हैं, जो पीतांबर से सुशोभित हैं, और जिन्हें तुलसी की पवित्र सुगंध प्राप्त है। पीला वस्त्र और श्याम वर्ण का संयोग स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी के मिलन का प्रतीक है।

I bow to Krishna, who is lovingly united with Rukmini in divine sport, who is resplendently clothed in golden yellow garments, and who is blessed with the sacred fragrance of tulasi. The golden garment against the dark complexion is a visual metaphor for the meeting of heaven and earth, and the tulasi fragrance reminds us that his presence is always consecrated and holy.

kṛṣṇāṣṭakam idaṃ puṇyaṃ prātar utthāya yaḥ paṭhet| koṭi-janmārjitaṃ pāpaṃ smaraṇena vinaśyati||8||

जो व्यक्ति प्रातःकाल उठकर इस पवित्र कृष्णाष्टकम् का पाठ करता है, उसके करोड़ों जन्मों के संचित पाप उस स्मरण मात्र से नष्ट हो जाते हैं। यह फलश्रुति हमें बताती है कि सच्चे भाव से की गई सुबह की भक्ति मन को नया और शुद्ध कर देती है।

Whoever rises at dawn and recites this sacred Krishnashtakam with devotion — the accumulated sins of crores of lifetimes are dissolved by this very act of remembrance. This phalaśruti is not merely a promise of cosmic accounting, but a declaration that sincere morning devotion has the power to fundamentally reorient the mind, clearing the weight of the past and opening the day with divine awareness.
