पितामहः

The great grandfather, the primordial ancestor who stands at the root of all created lineages as the most ancient of all forebears

महापितामह, वह आदि पूर्वज जो सबसे प्राचीन पूर्वज के रूप में सभी सृष्ट वंश-परम्पराओं की जड़ में खड़े हैं

पितामह दत्तात्रेय को पितामह: महान पितामह, महान पितृसत्ता नाम देता है। 'पितामह' विशेष रूप से ब्रह्मा का नाम है। भारत की पितृ-पूजा परम्परा में पितामह सबसे प्राचीन और सबसे सम्मानित स्थान रखते हैं। भारत की श्राद्ध परम्परा में सभी पूर्वजों को अन्ततः इस पितामह गुण की अभिव्यक्ति के रूप में सम्मानित किया जाता है।
