सोम यज्ञ ज्ञात सबसे प्राचीन वैदिक अनुष्ठान है, ऋग्वेद का नौवाँ मण्डल पूरी तरह सोम भजनों को समर्पित है। विद्वानों में सोम वास्तव में क्या था विवादित है, लेकिन यह स्वीकार किया जाता है कि जो देवता इसे प्राप्त करते हैं वे अधिक उपस्थित, अधिक सुलभ, अधिक उदार हो जाते हैं।
