The Tripura Mantra and the Jvalamukhi Worship-Order

Verse 1 (garuda.1.198.1)

श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १९८ भैरव उवाच । नित्यक्लिन्नामथो वक्ष्ये त्रिपुरां भुक्तिमुक्तिदाम् । ओं ह्रीं आगच्छ देवि ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं रेखाकारणम् । ओं ह्रीं क्लेदिनी भं नमः मदनक्षोभिणा तथा । ऐ यं यं क्रीं वा गुणरेखया ह्रीं मदनान्तरे च । ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं च निरञ्जना वागति मदनान्तरेखे खनेत्रावलीति च । वेगवति महाप्रेतासनाय च पूजयेत् । ओं ह्रीं क्रैं नैं क्रैं नित्यं मदद्रवे क्रीं नमः । ऐं ह्रीं त्रिपुरायै नमः । ओं ह्रीं क्रीं पश्चिमवक्त्रं ओं ऐं ह्रीं ह्रीं च तथोत्तरम् । ऐं ह्रीं दक्षिणमूर्ध्वंवक्त्रं तु पश्चिमम् । ओं ह्रीं पाशाय क्रीं अङ्कुशाय ऐं कपालाय नमः । आद्यं भयं ऐं ह्रीं च तथा शिरः तथा शिखायै कवचे । ऐं ह्रीं क्रीं अस्त्रायफट्

śrīgaruḍamahāpurāṇam 198 bhairava uvāca nityaklinnāmatho vakṣye tripurāṁ bhuktimuktidām oṁ hrīṁ āgaccha devi aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ rekhākāraṇam oṁ hrīṁ kledinī bhaṁ namaḥ madanakṣobhiṇā tathā ai yaṁ yaṁ krīṁ vā guṇarekhayā hrīṁ madanāntare ca aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ ca nirañjanā vāgati madanāntarekhe khanetrāvalīti ca vegavati mahāpretāsanāya ca pūjayet oṁ hrīṁ kraiṁ naiṁ kraiṁ nityaṁ madadrave krīṁ namaḥ aiṁ hrīṁ tripurāyai namaḥ oṁ hrīṁ krīṁ paścimavaktraṁ oṁ aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ ca tathottaram aiṁ hrīṁ dakṣiṇamūrdhvaṁvaktraṁ tu paścimam oṁ hrīṁ pāśāya krīṁ aṅkuśāya aiṁ kapālāya namaḥ ādyaṁ bhayaṁ aiṁ hrīṁ ca tathā śiraḥ tathā śikhāyai kavace aiṁ hrīṁ krīṁ astrāyaphaṭ

Bhairava said: Now I shall declare Nityaklinna, a form of Tripura, the bestower of enjoyment and liberation. [The mantra runs:] 'Om hrīṁ, come O Goddess, aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ, the cause of the outline. Om hrīṁ Kledini bhaṁ namaḥ, together with Madanakshobhini. Ai yaṁ yaṁ krīṁ, or with the line of qualities, hrīṁ, amid passion. Aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ, and Niranjana — the utterance at the line of passion, the row of eyes. Vegavati should be worshipped seated on the great corpse-seat. Om hrīṁ kraiṁ naiṁ kraiṁ, ever in the flow of passion, krīṁ namaḥ. Aiṁ hrīṁ, salutations to Tripura. Om hrīṁ krīṁ for the western face, Om aiṁ hrīṁ hrīṁ for the northern. Aiṁ hrīṁ for the southern-upper face and the western. Om hrīṁ for the noose, krīṁ for the goad, aiṁ namaḥ for the skull-cup. The first mantra for fear is aiṁ hrīṁ, and likewise for the head, the top-knot, and the armor. For the weapon: aiṁ hrīṁ krīṁ astrāya phaṭ.'

Verse 2 (garuda.1.198.2)

पूर्वे कामरूपाय असिताङ्गाय भैरवाय नमो ब्रह्माण्यै । दक्षिणे चैव कन्दाय वै नमः रुरुभैरवाय माहेश्वर्या वा आवाहयेत्

pūrve kāmarūpāya asitāṅgāya bhairavāya namo brahmāṇyai dakṣiṇe caiva kandāya vai namaḥ rurubhairavāya māheśvaryā vā āvāhayet

In the east, salutations to Kamarupa, Asitanga, and Bhairava, and to Brahmani. In the south, one should invoke Kanda and Ruru-Bhairava, or Maheshvari.

Verse 3 (garuda.1.198.3)

तथा पश्चिमे चण्डाय वै नमः । कौमार्यै चोत्तरे चोल्काय क्रोधाय नमः वैष्णव्यै

tathā paścime caṇḍāya vai namaḥ kaumāryai cottare colkāya krodhāya namaḥ vaiṣṇavyai

Likewise in the west, salutations to Chanda, and to Kaumari. In the north, salutations to Ulka, to Krodha-Bhairava, and to Vaishnavi.

Verse 4 (garuda.1.198.4)

अग्निकोणे अघोरायोन्मत्तभैरवायेति वाराह्यै । रक्षः कोणे साराय कपालिने भैरवाय माहेन्द्र्यै

agnikoṇe aghorāyonmattabhairavāyeti vārāhyai rakṣaḥ koṇe sārāya kapāline bhairavāya māhendryai

In the south-east (Agni) corner, to Aghora, to Unmatta-Bhairava, and to Varahi. In the south-west (Rakshas) corner, to Sara, to Kapalin-Bhairava, and to Mahendri.

Verse 5 (garuda.1.198.5)

वायुकोणे जालन्धराय भीषणाय भैरवाय चामुण्डायै । ईशकोणके वटुकाय संहारञ्चण्डिकाञ्च प्रपूजयेत्

vāyukoṇe jālandharāya bhīṣaṇāya bhairavāya cāmuṇḍāyai īśakoṇake vaṭukāya saṁhārañcaṇḍikāñca prapūjayet

In the north-west (Vayu) corner, to Jalandhara, to Bhishana-Bhairava, and to Chamunda. In the north-east (Isha) corner, to Vatuka and Samhara; and Chandika should be worshipped there.

Verse 6 (garuda.1.198.6)

रतिप्रीतिकामदेवान्पञ्चबाणान्यजेदथ । ध्यानार्चनाज्जप्यहोमाद्देवी सिद्धा च सर्वदा

ratiprītikāmadevānpañcabāṇānyajedatha dhyānārcanājjapyahomāddevī siddhā ca sarvadā

One should then worship Rati, Priti, Kamadeva, and the five arrows. Through meditation, worship, recitation, and fire-offering, the Goddess is ever attained.

Verse 7 (garuda.1.198.7)

नित्या च त्रिपुरा व्याधिं हन्याज्ज्वालामुखीक्रमात् । ज्वालामुखीक्रमं वक्ष्ये सा पूज्या मध्यतः शुभा

nityā ca tripurā vyādhiṁ hanyājjvālāmukhīkramāt jvālāmukhīkramaṁ vakṣye sā pūjyā madhyataḥ śubhā

Nitya and Tripura destroy disease according to the Jvalamukhi order. I shall now declare the Jvalamukhi order; that auspicious Goddess is to be worshipped in the centre.

Verse 8 (garuda.1.198.8)

नित्यारुणा मदनातुरा महामोहा प्रकृत्यपि । महेन्द्राणी च कलनाकर्षिणी भारती तथा

nityāruṇā madanāturā mahāmohā prakṛtyapi mahendrāṇī ca kalanākarṣiṇī bhāratī tathā

Nityaruna, Madanatura, Mahamoha, and also Prakriti, Mahendrani, Kalanakarshini, and likewise Bharati,

Verse 9 (garuda.1.198.9)

ब्रह्माणी चैव माहेशी कौमारी वैष्णवी तथा । वाराही चैव माहेन्द्री चामुण्डा चापराजिता

brahmāṇī caiva māheśī kaumārī vaiṣṇavī tathā vārāhī caiva māhendrī cāmuṇḍā cāparājitā

Brahmani, and Maheshi, Kaumari, and likewise Vaishnavi, Varahi, and Mahendri, Chamunda, and Aparajita,

Verse 10 (garuda.1.198.10)

विजया चाजिता चैवमोहिनी त्वरिता तथा । स्तम्भिनी जृम्भिणी पूज्या कालिका पद्मबाह्यतः । ज्वालामुखीक्रमं चार्चेद्विषादिहरणं भवेत्

vijayā cājitā caivamohinī tvaritā tathā stambhinī jṛmbhiṇī pūjyā kālikā padmabāhyataḥ jvālāmukhīkramaṁ cārcedviṣādiharaṇaṁ bhavet

Vijaya, and Ajita, Mohini, and likewise Tvarita, Stambhini, and Jrimbhini are to be worshipped, and Kalika outside the lotus. Worshipping in this Jvalamukhi order removes poison and the like.
