Worship of the Ganas, Durga, and Tripura

Verse 1 (garuda.1.24.1)

।।सूत उवाच । वक्ष्ये गणादिकाः पूजाः सर्वदा स्वर्गदाः पराः । गणासनं गणमूर्त्तिं गणाधिपतिमर्च्चयेत्

sūta uvāca vakṣye gaṇādikāḥ pūjāḥ sarvadā svargadāḥ parāḥ gaṇāsanaṁ gaṇamūrttiṁ gaṇādhipatimarccayet

Suta said: I shall declare the worship of Ganapati and the rest, which is ever excellent and grants heaven. One should worship the seat of the Gana, the image of the Gana, and the lord of the Ganas.

Verse 2 (garuda.1.24.2)

गामादिहृदयाद्यंगं दुर्गाया गुरुपादुकाः । दुर्गासनं च तन्मूर्त्तिं ह्रीं दुर्गे रक्षणीति च

gāmādihṛdayādyaṁgaṁ durgāyā gurupādukāḥ durgāsanaṁ ca tanmūrttiṁ hrīṁ durge rakṣaṇīti ca

With "gāṁ" and the rest, one should perform the placement upon the heart and other limbs, and worship the guru's sandals, the seat of Durga, and her image, with the mantra "Hrim, O Durga, protect."

Verse 3 (garuda.1.24.3)

ह्रृदादिकं नव शक्त्यो रुद्रचण्डा प्रचण्डया । चण्डोग्रा चण्डनायिका चण्डा चण्डवती क्रमात्

hrṛdādikaṁ nava śaktyo rudracaṇḍā pracaṇḍayā caṇḍogrā caṇḍanāyikā caṇḍā caṇḍavatī kramāt

With the heart-mantra and the rest, one should place the nine powers — Rudrachanda, Prachanda, Chandogra, Chandanayika, Chanda, and Chandavati — in order,

Verse 4 (garuda.1.24.4)

चण्रूपा चण्डिकाख्या दुर्गेदुर्गेऽथ रक्षिणि । वज्रखड्गादिका मुद्राः शिवाद्या वह्निदेशतः

caṇrūpā caṇḍikākhyā durgedurge'tha rakṣiṇi vajrakhaḍgādikā mudrāḥ śivādyā vahnideśataḥ

Chandarupa, Chandika — "O Durga, O Durga, the protectress!" The mudras of the thunderbolt, sword, and the rest, and Shiva and the other deities, should be established from the south-east.

Verse 5 (garuda.1.24.5)

सदाशिवमहाप्रेतपद्मासनमथापि वा । ऐं क्लीं (ह्रीं) सौस्त्रिपुरायै नमः । ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं क्षें क्षैं स्त्रीं स्कीं रों स्फें स्फीं शां पद्मासनं च मूर्त्तिं च त्रिपुराह्रृदयादिकम्

sadāśivamahāpretapadmāsanamathāpi vā aiṁ klīṁ (hrīṁ) saustripurāyai namaḥ oṁ hrāṁ hrīṁ kṣeṁ kṣaiṁ strīṁ skīṁ roṁ spheṁ sphīṁ śāṁ padmāsanaṁ ca mūrttiṁ ca tripurāhrṛdayādikam

One should also meditate upon Tripura seated on the lotus resting upon the great corpse-form of Sadashiva. "Aim klim sauh, salutation to Tripura." "Om hraṁ hrīṁ kṣeṁ kṣaiṁ strīṁ skīṁ roṁ spheṁ sphīṁ śāṁ" — for Tripura's lotus-seat, her image, and her heart and other limbs.

Verse 6 (garuda.1.24.6)

पीठाम्बुजे तु ब्राहयादीर्ब्रह्माणी च महेश्वरी । कौमारी वैष्णवी पूज्या वाराही चेन्द्रदेवता

pīṭhāmbuje tu brāhayādīrbrahmāṇī ca maheśvarī kaumārī vaiṣṇavī pūjyā vārāhī cendradevatā

On the seat-lotus, Brahmi and the rest — Brahmani, Maheshvari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi — are to be worshipped, and Varahi and the power of Indra as well.

Verse 7 (garuda.1.24.7)

चामुण्डा चण्डिका पूज्या भैरवाख्यांस्ततो यजेत् । असितांगोरुरुश्चण्डः क्रोध उन्मत्तभैरवः

cāmuṇḍā caṇḍikā pūjyā bhairavākhyāṁstato yajet asitāṁgoruruścaṇḍaḥ krodha unmattabhairavaḥ

Chamunda and Chandika are to be worshipped; then one should worship those called the Bhairavas — Asitanga, Ruru, Chanda, Krodha, Unmatta-Bhairava,

Verse 8 (garuda.1.24.8)

कपाली भीषणश्चैव संहारश्चाष्ट भैरवाः । रतिः प्रीतिः कामदेवः पञ्च बाणाश्च योगिनी

kapālī bhīṣaṇaścaiva saṁhāraścāṣṭa bhairavāḥ ratiḥ prītiḥ kāmadevaḥ pañca bāṇāśca yoginī

Kapali, Bhishana, and Samhara — these are the eight Bhairavas. Rati, Priti, Kamadeva, the five arrows, and the Yogini as well.

Verse 9 (garuda.1.24.9)

वटुकं दुर्गया विघ्नराजो गुरुश्च क्षेत्रपः । पद्मगर्भे मण्डले च त्रिकोणे चिन्तयेद्धृदि

vaṭukaṁ durgayā vighnarājo guruśca kṣetrapaḥ padmagarbhe maṇḍale ca trikoṇe cintayeddhṛdi

Vatuka-Bhairava together with Durga, Vighnaraja Ganesha, the guru, and Kshetrapala should be worshipped. In the lotus's heart, in the mandala, and in the triangle, one should contemplate the seat of the heart.

Verse 10 (garuda.1.24.10)

शुक्लां वरदाक्षसूत्रपुस्ताभयसमन्विताम् । लक्षजप्याच्च होमाच्च त्रिपुरा सिद्धिदा भवेत्

śuklāṁ varadākṣasūtrapustābhayasamanvitām lakṣajapyācca homācca tripurā siddhidā bhavet

One should meditate upon Tripura, white in hue, endowed with the gesture of boon-giving, a rosary, a book, and the gesture of fearlessness. By a hundred thousand recitations and oblations, Tripura grants success.
