The Glory of Aditya Tirtha

Verse 1 (padma.6.171.1)

महादेव उवाच। संगमस्य समीपे तु सत्तीर्थं लोकविश्रुतम् । आदित्याख्यं परं तस्मान्न भूतं न भविष्यति

mahādeva uvāca saṃgamasya samīpe tu sattīrthaṃ lokaviśrutam ādityākhyaṃ paraṃ tasmānna bhūtaṃ na bhaviṣyati

Mahadeva said: Near the confluence is a true and excellent tirtha, renowned throughout the world, called Aditya; none greater than it has ever existed, nor shall exist.

Verse 2 (padma.6.171.2)

यस्य वै दर्शनं कार्यं स्नानं वै पुष्करेण तु । पूजनं चार्कपुष्पेण करवीरैस्तथा पुनः

yasya vai darśanaṃ kāryaṃ snānaṃ vai puṣkareṇa tu pūjanaṃ cārkapuṣpeṇa karavīraistathā punaḥ

One should behold it, and bathe there in its lotus-pool; and worship should be performed with arka flowers, and again with oleander blossoms.

Verse 3 (padma.6.171.3)

तत्र श्राद्धं च दानं च कुर्युर्वै मानवाः सदा । इदमादित्यकं तीर्थं पवित्रं पापनाशनम्

tatra śrāddhaṃ ca dānaṃ ca kuryurvai mānavāḥ sadā idamādityakaṃ tīrthaṃ pavitraṃ pāpanāśanam

Men should ever perform shraddha and gift-giving there. This tirtha of Aditya is pure, the destroyer of sin.

Verse 4 (padma.6.171.4)

दर्शनात्पुण्यदं तीर्थं महापातकिनामपि

darśanātpuṇyadaṃ tīrthaṃ mahāpātakināmapi

It grants merit by the mere sight of it, even to those guilty of great sins.
