Rudra Samhita · Chapter 14
The Ordinances of Worship: Offerings and Their Fruits
Verse 1 (shiva.rudra.14.1)
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | vyāsaśiṣya mahābhāga kathaya tvaṁ pramāṇataḥ | kaiḥ puṣpaiḥ pūjitaḥ śambhuḥ kiṁ kiṁ yacchati vai phalam
The sages said: O greatly fortunate disciple of Vyasa, tell us accurately — with which flowers, when worshipped, does Shambhu grant which particular fruit?
Verse 2 (shiva.rudra.14.2)
sūta uvāca | śaunakādyāśca ṛṣayaḥ śṛṇutādarato'khilam || kathayāmyadya suprītyā puṣpārpaṇavinirṇayam
Suta said: O sages headed by Shaunaka, listen to all of this with attention; I shall tell today, with great affection, the determination of flower-offerings.
Verse 3 (shiva.rudra.14.3)
eṣa eva vidhiḥ pṛṣṭo nāradena maharṣiṇā | provāca paramaprītyā puṣpārpaṇavinirṇayam
This very rite was asked by the great sage Narada; and Brahma told him, with supreme affection, this determination of flower-offerings.
Verse 4 (shiva.rudra.14.4)
brahmovāca | kamalairbilvapatraiśca śatapatraistathā punaḥ | śaṅkhapuṣpaistathā devaṁ lakṣmīkāmo'rcayecchivam
Brahma said: With lotuses, bilva leaves, hundred-petaled blossoms, and conch-flowers, one who desires prosperity should worship Shiva.
Verse 5 (shiva.rudra.14.5)
etaiśca lakṣasaṅkhyākaiḥ pūjitaścedbhavecchivaḥ | pāpahānistathā vipra lakṣmīḥ syānnātra saṁśayaḥ
If Shiva is worshipped with a hundred thousand of these, O Brahmin, then loss of sin and the attainment of Lakshmi surely follow — of this there is no doubt.
Verse 6 (shiva.rudra.14.6)
viṁśatiḥ kamalānāṁ tu prasthamekamudāhṛtam | bilvo dalasahasreṇa prasthārdhaṁ paribhāṣitam
Twenty lotuses are said to make one prastha; a thousand bilva leaves are reckoned as half a prastha.
Verse 7 (shiva.rudra.14.7)
śatapatrasahasreṇa prasthārdhaṁ paribhāṣitam | palaiḥ ṣoḍaśabhiḥ prasthaḥ palaṁ ṭaṅkadaśasmṛtaḥ
A thousand hundred-petaled blossoms likewise make half a prastha; a prastha is sixteen palas, and a pala is ten tankas.
Verse 8 (shiva.rudra.14.8)
anenaiva tu mānena tulāmāropayedyadā | sarvānkāmānavāpnoti niṣkāmaścecchivo bhavet
When, by this very measure, one raises the offering to the weight of a tula, one obtains every desire; and if free of desire, one becomes one with Shiva.
Verse 9 (shiva.rudra.14.9)
rājyasya kāmuko yo vai pārthivānāṁ ca pūjayā | toṣayecchaṅkaraṁ devaṁ daśakoṭyā munīśvarāḥ
O lords of sages, whoever desires a kingdom should please the god Shankara with ten million offerings of earthen-linga worship.
Verse 10 (shiva.rudra.14.10)
liṅgaṁ śivaṁ tathā puṣpamakhaṇḍaṁ taṇḍulaṁ tathā | carcitaṁ candanenaiva jaladhārāṁ tathā punaḥ
The linga of Shiva, together with an unbroken flower and unbroken rice-grain, anointed with sandalwood alone, and again with a stream of water —
Verse 11 (shiva.rudra.14.11)
pratirūpaṁ tathā mantraṁ bilvīdalamanuttamam | athavā śatapatraṁ ca kamalaṁ vā tathā punaḥ
together with the proper mantra, and a supreme bilva leaf, or a hundred-petaled blossom, or likewise a lotus —
Verse 12 (shiva.rudra.14.12)
śaṅkhapuṣpaistathā proktaṁ viśeṣeṇa purātanaiḥ | sarvakāmaphalaṁ divyaṁ paratrehāpi sarvathā
or with conch-flowers, has been especially declared by the ancients to bestow the divine fruit of every desire, both here and hereafter, in every way.
Verse 13 (shiva.rudra.14.13)
dhūpaṁ dīpaṁ ca naivedyamarghaṁ cārārtikaṁ tathā | pradakṣiṇāṁ namaskāraṁ kṣamāpanavisarjane
Incense, a lamp, food-offering, arghya, the waving of lamps, circumambulation, prostration, the plea for forgiveness, and the sending-off —
Verse 14 (shiva.rudra.14.14)
kṛtvā sāṅgaṁ tathā bhojyaṁ kṛtaṁ yena bhavediha | tasya vai sarvathā rājyaṁ śaṅkaraḥ pradadāti ca
having done all this, together with its ancillary rites and the feeding of Brahmins, whoever performs this — to him Shankara grants a kingdom in every way.
Verse 15 (shiva.rudra.14.15)
pradhānyakāmuko yo vai tadardhenārcayetpumān | kārāgṛhagato yo vai lakṣenaivārcayeddharam
Whoever desires preeminence should worship with half of that quantity; whoever is imprisoned should worship Hara with a hundred thousand offerings alone.
Verse 16 (shiva.rudra.14.16)
rogagrasto yadā syādvai tadardhenārcayecchivam | kanyākāmo bhavedyo vai tadardhena śivaṁ punaḥ
When one is afflicted with disease, one should worship Shiva with half of that; whoever desires a daughter should again worship Shiva with half of that.
Verse 17 (shiva.rudra.14.17)
vidyākāmastathā yaḥ syāttadardhenārcayecchivam | vāṇīkāmo bhavedyo vai ghṛtenaivārcayecchivam
Whoever desires learning should likewise worship Shiva with half of that; whoever desires eloquence should worship Shiva with ghee alone.
Verse 18 (shiva.rudra.14.18)
uccāṭanārthaṁ śatrūṇāṁ tanmitenaiva pūjanam | māraṇe vai tu lakṣeṇa mohane tu tadardhataḥ
For the driving away of enemies, worship should be performed with that same measure; for causing death, with a hundred thousand; for bewilderment, with half of that.
Verse 19 (shiva.rudra.14.19)
sāmantānāṁ jaye caiva koṭipūjā praśasyate | rājñāmayutasaṅkhyaṁ ca vaśīkaraṇakarmaṇi
For victory over vassal chiefs, worship with ten million offerings is praised; and in the rite of subjugating kings, ten thousand offerings.
Verse 20 (shiva.rudra.14.20)
yaśase ca tathā saṅkhyā vāhanādyaiḥ sahasrikā | muktikāmo'rcayecchambhuṁ pañcakoṭyā subhaktitaḥ
For fame, the number is a thousand, together with vehicles and the like; whoever desires liberation should worship Shambhu with five million offerings, with true devotion.
Verse 21 (shiva.rudra.14.21)
jñānārthī pūjayetkoṭyā śaṅkaraṁ loka śaṅkaram | śivadarśanakāmo vai tadardhena prapūjayet
One who seeks knowledge should worship Shankara, the bringer of auspiciousness to the world, with ten million offerings; whoever desires the vision of Shiva should worship with half of that.
Verse 22 (shiva.rudra.14.22)
tathā mṛtyuñjayo jāpyaḥ kāmanāphalarūpataḥ | pañcalakṣā japā yarhi pratyakṣaṁ tu bhavecchivaḥ
Likewise the Mrityunjaya mantra is to be recited, according to the fruit of the desire; when five hundred thousand repetitions have been made, Shiva becomes directly visible.
Verse 23 (shiva.rudra.14.23)
lakṣeṇa bhajate kaścid dvitīye jātisambhavaḥ | tṛtīye kāmanālābhaścaturthe taṁ prapaśyati
With a hundred thousand repetitions, one attains some grace; at the second hundred thousand, a good birth; at the third, fulfillment of one's wish; at the fourth, his vision.
Verse 24 (shiva.rudra.14.24)
pañcamaṁ ca yadā lakṣaṁ phalaṁ yacchatyasaṁśayam | anenaiva tu mantreṇa daśalakṣe phalaṁ bhavet
And when the fifth hundred thousand is reached, the fruit is granted without doubt; with this very mantra, at ten hundred thousand, the highest fruit comes about.
Verse 25 (shiva.rudra.14.25)
muktikāmo bhavedyo vai darbhaiśca pūjanaṁ caret | lakṣasaṅkhyā tu sarvatra jñātavyā ṛṣisattama
Whoever desires liberation should perform worship with kusha grass; O best of sages, the number of a hundred thousand is to be understood everywhere as the standard.
Verse 26 (shiva.rudra.14.26)
āyuḥkāmo bhavedyo vai dūrvābhiḥ pūjanaṁ caret | putrakāmo bhavedyo vai dhattūrakusumaiścaret
Whoever desires long life should perform worship with durva grass; whoever desires a son should perform it with datura flowers.
Verse 27 (shiva.rudra.14.27)

bhuktimuktiphalaṁ tasya tulasyā pūjayedyadi | arkapuṣpaiḥ pratāpaśca kubjakahlārakaistathā
If one worships with tulasi, the fruit is both enjoyment and liberation; with arka flowers, splendor; and with kubjaka and white water-lily flowers —
Verse 29 (shiva.rudra.14.29)
japākusumapūjā tu śatrūṇāṁ mṛtyudā smṛtā | rogoccāṭanakānīha karavīrāṇi vai kramāt
worship with hibiscus flowers is remembered as bringing death to enemies; oleander flowers, in due order, drive away disease and cause estrangement.
Verse 30 (shiva.rudra.14.30)
bandhukairbhūṣaṇāvāptirjātyā vāhānna saṁśayaḥ | atasīpuṣpakairdevaṁ viṣṇuvallabhatāmiyāt ||
With bandhuka flowers, the attainment of ornaments; with jasmine, a vehicle — without doubt; worshipping the god with atasi flowers, one becomes dear to Vishnu.
Verse 31 (shiva.rudra.14.31)
śamīpatraistathā muktiḥ prāpyate puruṣeṇa ca | mallikākusumairdattaiḥ striyaṁ śubhatarāṁ śivaḥ
With shami leaves, liberation is likewise attained by a man; offering jasmine flowers, Shiva grants a most auspicious wife —
Verse 32 (shiva.rudra.14.32)
yūthikākusumaiḥ śastairgṛhaṁ naiva vimucyate | karṇikāraistathā vastrasampattirjāyate nṛṇām
with the praised yuthika flowers, one's household is never abandoned by fortune; with karnikara flowers, an abundance of clothing comes to men.
Verse 33 (shiva.rudra.14.33)

With nirgundi flowers, the mind attains purity in this world; and with a hundred thousand bilva leaves, one obtains every desire.
Verse 34 (shiva.rudra.14.34)

śṛṅgārahārapuṣpaistu vardhate sukhasampadā | ṛtujātāni puṣpāṇi muktidāni na saṁśayaḥ
With shringara-hara flowers, happiness and prosperity increase; flowers born in their proper season bestow liberation, without doubt.

rājikākusumānīha śatrūṇāṁ mṛtyudāni ca | eṣāṁ lakṣaṁ śive dadyāddadyācca vipulaṁ phalam
Mustard flowers here bring death to enemies; one should offer a hundred thousand of these to Shiva, and he grants abundant fruit.
Verse 36 (shiva.rudra.14.36)
vidyate kusumaṁ tanna yannaiva śivavallabham | campakaṁ ketakaṁ hitvā tvanyatsarvaṁ samarpayet
There exists no flower that is not dear to Shiva; except for champaka and ketaki, one may offer all others.
Verse 37 (shiva.rudra.14.37)

By heaping unbroken rice-grains, O Brahmin, upon Shiva with proper devotion, growth of prosperity is brought about for men.
Verse 39 (shiva.rudra.14.39)
ṣaṭkenaiva tu prasthānāṁ tadardhena tathā punaḥ | paladvayaṁ tathā lakṣamānena samudāhṛtam
By six prasthas, or half of that, together with two palas — by this measure is the "hundred thousand" reckoned.
Verse 40 (shiva.rudra.14.40)
pūjāṁ rudrapradhānena kṛtvā vastraṁ susundaram | śivopari nyasettatra tandulārpaṇamuttamam
Having performed the worship principally with the Rudra mantra, one should place a beautiful cloth upon Shiva there, and then the excellent offering of rice.
Verse 41 (shiva.rudra.14.41)

upari śrīphalaṁ tvekaṁ gandhapuṣpādibhistathā | ropayitvā ca dhūpādi kṛtvā pūjāphalaṁ bhavet ||
On top, a single bel-fruit, along with fragrance, flowers and the like; having heaped these and offered incense and the rest, the fruit of the worship is obtained.
Verse 42 (shiva.rudra.14.42)
prajāpatyadvayaṁ raupyamāṣasaṅkhyā ca dakṣiṇā | deyā tadupadeṣṭre hi śaktyā vā dakṣiṇā matā
Two prajapatya measures of silver, or an equivalent in masha-weight, should be given as the fee to the officiant; or the fee is according to one's means.
Verse 43 (shiva.rudra.14.43)
ādityasaṅkhyayā tatra brāhmaṇānbhojayettataḥ | lakṣapūjā tathā jātā sāṅgañca mantrapūrvakam
Then Brahmins should be fed there, to the number of the Adityas; thus is the "hundred-thousand" worship accomplished, complete with its rites and preceded by mantra.
Verse 44 (shiva.rudra.14.44)

ekādaśapalaireva lakṣamānamudāhṛtam | pūrvavatpūjanaṁ tatra kartavyaṁ hitakāmyayā
By eleven palas alone is the measure of a "hundred thousand" reckoned; worship should be performed there as before, out of desire for welfare.
Verse 46 (shiva.rudra.14.46)
bhojyā vai brāhmaṇāstasmādatra kāryā nareṇa hi | mahāpātakajaṁ duḥkhaṁ tatkṣaṇānnaśyati dhruvam
Brahmins are indeed to be fed thereupon by a man performing this; the sorrow born of the gravest sin is destroyed that very instant, without fail.
Verse 47 (shiva.rudra.14.47)
yavapūjā tathā proktā lakṣeṇa paramā śive | prasthānāmaṣṭakaṁ caiva tathā prasthārdhakaṁ punaḥ
Worship with barley, likewise, is said to be supreme when performed with a hundred thousand, offered to Shiva; eight prasthas, and again half a prastha —
Verse 48 (shiva.rudra.14.48)
paladvayayutaṁ tatra mānametatpurātanam | yavapūjā ca munibhiḥ svargasaukhyavivardhinī
together with two palas, this is the ancient measure; and worship with barley, according to the sages, increases the happiness of heaven.
Verse 49 (shiva.rudra.14.49)
prājāpatyaṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ kartavyaṁ ca phalepsubhiḥ | godhūmānnaistathā pūjā praśastā śaṅkarasya vai
The prajapatya rite for Brahmins should be performed by those who desire this fruit; worship of Shankara with wheat is likewise praised.
Verse 50 (shiva.rudra.14.50)
santatirvardhate tasya yadi lakṣāvadhiḥ kṛtā | droṇārdhena bhavellakṣaṁ vidhānaṁ vidhipūrvakam
His progeny increases if the offering has been made up to a hundred thousand; half a drona makes the "hundred thousand," as the rule prescribes.
Verse 51 (shiva.rudra.14.51)
mudgānāṁ pūjane devaḥ śivo yacchati vai sukham | prasthānāṁ saptakenaiva prasthārdhenāthavā punaḥ
Through worship with mung beans, the god Shiva grants happiness; by seven prasthas, or by half a prastha —
Verse 52 (shiva.rudra.14.52)
paladvayayutenaiva lakṣamuktaṁ purātanaiḥ | brāhmaṇāśca tathā bhojyā rudrasaṅkhyāpramāṇataḥ
together with two palas, the "hundred thousand" is declared by the ancients; and Brahmins should be fed, to the number of the Rudras.
Verse 53 (shiva.rudra.14.53)
priyaṅgupūjanādeva dharmādhyakṣe parātmani | dharmārthakāmā vardhante pūjā sarvasukhāvahā
By worship with priyangu alone, offered to the Supreme Self, overseer of dharma, dharma, artha and kama increase — this worship brings every happiness.
Verse 54 (shiva.rudra.14.54)
prasthaikena ca tasyoktaṁ lakṣamekaṁ purātanaiḥ | brahmabhojaṁ tathā proktamarkasaṅkhyāpramāṇataḥ
For it, by one prastha, the "hundred thousand" is declared by the ancients; and the feeding of Brahmins is prescribed to the number of the sun.
Verse 55 (shiva.rudra.14.55)
rājikāpūjanaṁ śambhoḥ śatrormṛtyukaraṁ smṛtam | sarṣapānāṁ tathā lakṣaṁ palairviṁśatisaṅkhyayā
Worship of Shambhu with mustard is remembered as bringing death to an enemy; the "hundred thousand" for mustard-seeds is reckoned by twenty palas.
Verse 56 (shiva.rudra.14.56)
teṣāṁ ca pūjanādeva śatrormṛtyurudāhṛtaḥ | āḍhakīnāṁ dalaiścaiva śobhayitvārcayecchivam
By worship with these alone, the death of an enemy is declared; and, adorning the linga with the pods of the pigeon-pea, one should worship Shiva.
Verse 57 (shiva.rudra.14.57)
vṛtā gauśca pradātavyā balīvardastathaiva ca | marīcisambhavā pūjā śatrornāśakarī smṛtā
A chosen cow should be given, and likewise a bull; worship arising from black pepper is remembered as bringing about the destruction of an enemy.

dhānyamānamiti proktaṁ mayā te munisattama | lakṣamānaṁ tu puṣpāṇāṁ śṛṇu prītyā munīśvara
O best of sages, thus has the measure of grains been declared to you by me; now hear, O lord of sages, with affection, the measure of a "hundred thousand" for flowers.
Verse 60 (shiva.rudra.14.60)
prasthānāṁ ca tathā caikaṁ śaṅkhapuṣpasamudbhavam | proktaṁ vyāsena lakṣaṁ hi sūkṣmamānapradarśinā
One prastha is the measure for conch-flowers making a "hundred thousand"; this was declared by Vyasa, the revealer of the subtle measure.
Verse 61 (shiva.rudra.14.61)
prasthairekādaśairjātilakṣamānaṁ prakīrtitam | yūthikāyāstathā mānaṁ rājikāyāstadardhakam
By eleven prasthas, the "hundred thousand" measure of jasmine is proclaimed; and likewise for yuthika, and half of that for mustard-flowers.
Verse 62 (shiva.rudra.14.62)
prasthairviṁśatikaiścaiva mallikāmānamuttamam | tilapuṣpaistathā mānaṁ prasthānnyūnaṁ tathaiva ca
By twenty prasthas is the excellent measure for jasmine; and the measure for sesame-flowers is likewise somewhat less than a prastha.
Verse 63 (shiva.rudra.14.63)
tataśca triguṇaṁ mānaṁ karavīrabhave smṛtam | nirguṇḍīkusume mānaṁ tathaiva kathitaṁ budhaiḥ
Then, threefold that measure is remembered for oleander flowers; and the measure for nirgundi flowers has likewise been declared by the wise.
Verse 64 (shiva.rudra.14.64)
karṇikāre tathā mānaṁ śirīṣakusume punaḥ | bandhujīve tathā mānaṁ prasthānaṁ daśakena ca
Likewise the measure for karnikara, and again for shirisha flowers; and likewise the measure for bandhujiva, by ten prasthas.
Verse 65 (shiva.rudra.14.65)
ityādyairvividhairmānaṁ dṛṣṭvā kuryācchivārcanam | sarvakāmasamṛddhyarthaṁ muktyarthaṁ kāmanojjhitaḥ
Having ascertained the measure by these and other various means, one should perform the worship of Shiva — for abundance of desire, or, free of desire, for liberation.
Verse 66 (shiva.rudra.14.66)
ataḥ paraṁ pravakṣyāmi dhārāpūjāphalaṁ mahat | yasya śravaṇamātreṇa kalyāṇaṁ jāyate nṛṇām
Beyond this, I shall now declare the great fruit of the stream-offering, by whose hearing alone welfare comes upon men.
Verse 67 (shiva.rudra.14.67)
vidhānapūrvakaṁ pūjāṁ kṛtvā bhaktyā śivasya vai | paścācca jaladhārā hi kartavyā bhaktitatparaiḥ
Having performed the worship of Shiva according to rule and with devotion, those intent on devotion should afterward offer a stream of water.
Verse 68 (shiva.rudra.14.68)
jvarapralāpaśāntyarthaṁ jaladhārā śubhāvahā | śatarudriyamantreṇa rudrasyaikādaśena tu
For the pacifying of fever and delirium, the stream of water is auspicious, offered with the Shatarudriya mantra, or with the eleven hymns of Rudra.
Verse 69 (shiva.rudra.14.69)
rudrajāpyena vā tatra sūktena pauruṣeṇa vā | ṣaḍaṅgenātha vā tatra mahāmṛtyuñjayena ca
Or with the Rudra-japa, the Purusha Sukta, the six-limbed mantra, or the Mahamrityunjaya —
Verse 70 (shiva.rudra.14.70)
gāyatryā vā namo'ntaiśca nāmabhiḥ praṇavādibhiḥ | mantrairvāthāgamoktaiśca jaladhārādikaṁ tathā
or with the Gayatri, or with names beginning with the pranava and ending in "namaḥ," or with mantras declared in the Agamas — thus the stream of water should be offered.
Verse 71 (shiva.rudra.14.71)
sukhasantānavṛddhyarthaṁ dhārāpūjanamuttamam | nānādravyaiḥ śubhairdivyaiḥ prītyā sadbhasmadhāriṇā
For the increase of happiness and progeny, one who bears true ash should lovingly perform the excellent stream-worship with various auspicious, divine substances.
Verse 72 (shiva.rudra.14.72)
ghṛtadhārā śive kāryā yāvanmantrasahasrakam | tadā vaṁśasya vistāro jāyate nātra saṁśayaḥ
A stream of ghee should be offered to Shiva, up to a thousand recitations of the mantra; then the expansion of one's lineage comes about, without doubt.
Verse 73 (shiva.rudra.14.73)
evamayutamantreṇa kāryaṁ vai śivapūjanam | prameharogaśāntyarthaṁ prāpnuyācca manepsitam | ṣaṇḍhatvaṁ yadādātastadā ghṛtasupūjanam | brahmabhojyaṁ tathā proktaṁ prājāpatyaṁ munīśvaraiḥ
Likewise, with ten thousand recitations, the worship of Shiva should be performed to pacify urinary disease, and one obtains one's heart's desire; when impotence has come upon one, excellent worship with ghee should be done, together with the feeding of Brahmins and the prajapatya rite, as declared by the lords of sages.
Verse 74 (shiva.rudra.14.74)
kevalaṁ dugdhadhārā ca tadā kāryā viśeṣataḥ | śarkarāmiśritā tatra yadā buddhijaḍo bhavet
A stream of milk alone should then be especially offered, mixed with sugar, when one has become dull of intellect.
Verse 75 (shiva.rudra.14.75)
tasyā sañjāyate jīvasadṛśī buddhiruttamā | yāvanmantrāyutaṁ na syāttāvaddhārāprapūjanam
Through this, a superior intellect arises for him; the stream-worship should be performed until ten thousand mantras have been completed.
Verse 76 (shiva.rudra.14.76)
yadā coccāṭanaṁ dehe jāyate kāraṇaṁ vinā | yatra kutrāpi vā prema duḥkhaṁ ca parivardhitam
And when a restlessness arises in the body without cause, or when love and sorrow keep increasing anywhere —
Verse 77 (shiva.rudra.14.77)
svagṛhe kalaho nityaṁ yadā caiva prajāyate | taddhārāyāṁ kṛtāyāṁ vai sarvaṁ duḥkhaṁ vilīyate
or when there is constant quarreling in one's own home — when that stream-offering has been made, all such sorrow dissolves away.
Verse 78 (shiva.rudra.14.78)
śatrūṇāṁ tāpanārthaṁ vai tailadhārā śivopari | kartavyā suprayatnena kāryasiddhirdhruvaṁ bhavet
For causing distress to enemies, a stream of oil should be poured upon Shiva with great effort; the success of one's undertaking is then certain.
Verse 79 (shiva.rudra.14.79)
vāsitenaiva tailena bhogavṛddhiḥ prajāyate | sārṣapeṇaiva tailena śatrunāśo bhaved dhruvam
With scented oil, an increase in enjoyment comes about; with mustard oil, the destruction of an enemy surely comes to pass.
Verse 80 (shiva.rudra.14.80)
madhunā yakṣarājo vai gacchecca śivapūjanāt | dhārā cekṣurasasyāpi sarvānandakarī śive
Through worship of Shiva with honey, one attains the state of the king of the Yakshas; a stream of sugarcane juice, too, offered to Shiva, brings every joy.
Verse 81 (shiva.rudra.14.81)
dhārā gaṅgājalasyaiva bhuktimuktiphalapradā | etāḥ sarvāśca yāḥ proktā mṛtyañjayasamudbhavāḥ
A stream of Ganga water alone grants the fruit of both enjoyment and liberation; all these streams that have been described arise from the practice of the Mrityunjaya.
Verse 82 (shiva.rudra.14.82)
tatrāyutapramāṇaṁ hi kartavyaṁ tadvidhānataḥ | kartavyaṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ ca bhojyaṁ vai rudrasaṅkhyayā
There, the measure of ten thousand mantras should be performed according to that rule; and Brahmins should be fed, to the number of the Rudras.
Verse 83 (shiva.rudra.14.83)
etatte sarvamākhyātaṁ yatpṛṣṭo'haṁ munīśvara | etadvai saphalaṁ loke sarvakāmahitāvaham
O lord of sages, all this has been declared to you, whatever I was asked; this indeed bears fruit in this world, bringing about the welfare of every desire.
Verse 84 (shiva.rudra.14.84)
skandomāsahitaṁ śambhuṁ sampūjya vidhinā saha | yatphalaṁ labhate bhaktyā tadvadāmi yathāśrutam
I shall now tell, as I have heard it, what fruit is obtained through devoted worship of Shambhu, together with Uma and Skanda, performed according to rule.
Verse 85 (shiva.rudra.14.85)
atra bhuktvākhilaṁ saukhyaṁ putrapautrādibhiḥ śubham | tato yāti maheśasya lokaṁ sarvasukhāvaham
Having enjoyed here every happiness, together with sons and grandsons and other auspicious blessings, one then goes to the world of Mahesha, which brings every joy.
Verse 86 (shiva.rudra.14.86)
sūryakoṭipratīkāśairvimānaiḥ sarvakāmagaiḥ | rudrakanyāsamākīrṇairgeyavādyasamanvitaiḥ
There, in celestial cars resembling ten million suns, going wherever one wishes, filled with the daughters of the Rudras, accompanied by song and music —
Verse 87 (shiva.rudra.14.87)
krīḍate śivabhūtaśca yāvadābhūtasamplavam | tato mokṣamavāpnoti vijñānaṁ prāpya cāvyayam
one, having become one of Shiva's own hosts, sports there until the dissolution of all created beings; then, having attained imperishable realization, one obtains liberation.
