Verse 1 (shiva.rudra.191.1)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । अथ बाणासुरः क्रुद्धस्तत्र गत्वा ददर्श तम् । दिव्यलीलात्तवपुषं प्रथमे वयसि स्थितम्

sanatkumāra uvāca atha bāṇāsuraḥ kruddhastatra gatvā dadarśa tam divyalīlāttavapuṣaṁ prathame vayasi sthitam

Sanatkumara said: Then Banasura, enraged, went there and saw him — of divine, playful form, standing in the first bloom of youth.

Verse 2 (shiva.rudra.191.2)

तं दृष्ट्वा विस्मितं वाक्यं किं कारणमथाब्रवीत् । बाणः क्रोधपरीतात्मा युधि शौण्डो हसन्निव

taṁ dṛṣṭvā vismitaṁ vākyaṁ kiṁ kāraṇamathābravīt bāṇaḥ krodhaparītātmā yudhi śauṇḍo hasanniva

Seeing him, astonished, Bana, his soul overcome with anger, though proud in battle, spoke almost as if laughing: "What is the reason for this?"

Verse 3 (shiva.rudra.191.3)

अहो मनुष्यो रूपाढ्यःसाहसी धैर्यवानिति । कोऽयमागतकालश्च दुष्टभाग्यो विमूढधीः

aho manuṣyo rūpāḍhyaḥsāhasī dhairyavāniti ko'yamāgatakālaśca duṣṭabhāgyo vimūḍhadhīḥ

"Ah, a man rich in beauty, bold and full of courage! Who is this one whose time has come — ill-fated and utterly deluded!"

Verse 4 (shiva.rudra.191.4)

येन मे कुलचारित्रं दूषितं दुहिता हिता । तं मारयध्वं कुपिताः शीघ्रं शस्त्रैः सुदारुणैः

yena me kulacāritraṁ dūṣitaṁ duhitā hitā taṁ mārayadhvaṁ kupitāḥ śīghraṁ śastraiḥ sudāruṇaiḥ

"He by whom my family's honor has been defiled, my beloved daughter wronged — kill him at once, in fury, with the most dreadful weapons!"

Verse 5 (shiva.rudra.191.5)

दुराचारं च तं बद्ध्वा घोरे कारागृहे ततः । रक्षध्वं विकटे वीरा बहुकालं विशेषतः

durācāraṁ ca taṁ baddhvā ghore kārāgṛhe tataḥ rakṣadhvaṁ vikaṭe vīrā bahukālaṁ viśeṣataḥ

"Bind that wicked man and confine him in a terrible prison; guard him there, O warriors, in that dreadful place, for a very long time!"

Verse 6 (shiva.rudra.191.6)

न जाने कोऽयमभयः को वा घोरपराक्रमः । विचार्येति महाबुद्धिः सन्दिग्धोऽभूच्छरासुरः

na jāne ko'yamabhayaḥ ko vā ghoraparākramaḥ vicāryeti mahābuddhiḥ sandigdho'bhūccharāsuraḥ

[Yet reflecting,] "I do not know who this fearless one is, or the source of his terrible valor" — thinking thus, that wise asura Bana grew uncertain.

Verse 7 (shiva.rudra.191.7)

ततो दैत्येन सैन्यं तु दशसाहस्रकं शनैः । वधाय तस्य वीरस्य व्यादिष्टं पापबुद्धिना

tato daityena sainyaṁ tu daśasāhasrakaṁ śanaiḥ vadhāya tasya vīrasya vyādiṣṭaṁ pāpabuddhinā

Then the daitya, of wicked intent, quietly commanded ten thousand troops to slay that hero.

Verse 8 (shiva.rudra.191.8)

तदादिष्टास्तु ते वीराः सर्वतोऽन्तःपुरं द्रुतम् । छादयामासुरत्युग्राश्छिन्धि भिन्दीति वादिनः

tadādiṣṭāstu te vīrāḥ sarvato'ntaḥpuraṁ drutam chādayāmāsuratyugrāśchindhi bhindīti vādinaḥ

At his command, those most fierce warriors quickly surrounded the inner chamber on every side, shouting, "Cut him! Break him!"

Verse 9 (shiva.rudra.191.9)

शत्रुसैन्यं ततो दृष्ट्वा गर्जमानः स यादवः । अन्तःपुरं द्वारगतं परिघं गृह्य चातुलम्

śatrusainyaṁ tato dṛṣṭvā garjamānaḥ sa yādavaḥ antaḥpuraṁ dvāragataṁ parighaṁ gṛhya cātulam

Seeing the enemy army, that Yadava roared, and, seizing the incomparable iron bar that stood at the door of the inner chamber,

Verse 10 (shiva.rudra.191.10)

निष्क्रान्तो भवनात्तस्माद्वज्रहस्त इवान्तकः । तेन तान्किङ्करान् हत्वा पुनश्चान्तःपुरं ययौ

niṣkrānto bhavanāttasmādvajrahasta ivāntakaḥ tena tānkiṅkarān hatvā punaścāntaḥpuraṁ yayau

he came forth from that dwelling like Death himself with the thunderbolt in hand, and, having slain those servants with it, returned again to the inner chamber.

Verse 11 (shiva.rudra.191.11)

एवं दशसहस्राणि सैन्यानि मुनिसत्तम । जघान रोषरक्ताक्षो वर्द्धितः शिवतेजसा

evaṁ daśasahasrāṇi sainyāni munisattama jaghāna roṣaraktākṣo varddhitaḥ śivatejasā

O best of sages, thus, his eyes red with fury, strengthened by Shiva's own power, he slew those ten thousand troops one wave after another.

Verse 12 (shiva.rudra.191.12)

लक्षे हतेऽथ योधानां ततो बाणासुरो रुषा । कुम्भाण्डं स गृहीत्वा तु युद्धे शौण्डं समाह्वयत्

lakṣe hate'tha yodhānāṁ tato bāṇāsuro ruṣā kumbhāṇḍaṁ sa gṛhītvā tu yuddhe śauṇḍaṁ samāhvayat

When a hundred thousand warriors had thus been slain, Banasura, in fury, taking Kumbhanda with him, challenged that battle-proud one to single combat —

Verse 13 (shiva.rudra.191.13)

अनिरुद्धं महाबुद्धिं द्वन्द्वयुद्धे महाहवे । प्राद्युम्निं रक्षितं शैवतेजसा प्रज्वलत्तनुम्

aniruddhaṁ mahābuddhiṁ dvandvayuddhe mahāhave prādyumniṁ rakṣitaṁ śaivatejasā prajvalattanum

— Aniruddha, of great wisdom, Pradyumna's son, whose body blazed, protected by Shiva's own power, to a great single combat.

Verse 14 (shiva.rudra.191.14)

ततो दशसहस्राणि तुरङ्गाणां रथोत्तमान् । युद्धप्राप्तेन खड्गेन दैत्येन्द्रस्य जघान सः

tato daśasahasrāṇi turaṅgāṇāṁ rathottamān yuddhaprāptena khaḍgena daityendrasya jaghāna saḥ

Then, with the sword he seized in that battle, he destroyed ten thousand horses and the finest chariots of the lord of daityas.

Verse 15 (shiva.rudra.191.15)

तद्वधाय ततः शक्तिं कालवैश्वानरोपमाम् । अनिरुद्धो गृहीत्वा तां तया तं निजघान हि

tadvadhāya tataḥ śaktiṁ kālavaiśvānaropamām aniruddho gṛhītvā tāṁ tayā taṁ nijaghāna hi

Then, to slay him, Aniruddha seized a spear like the fire of doomsday, and with it he struck Bana down.

Verse 16 (shiva.rudra.191.16)

रथोपस्थे ततो बाणस्तया शक्त्याहतो दृढम् । स साश्वस्तत्क्षणं वीरस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत

rathopasthe tato bāṇastayā śaktyāhato dṛḍham sa sāśvastatkṣaṇaṁ vīrastatraivāntaradhīyata

Struck hard by that spear as he stood on his chariot-seat, that hero Bana, together with his horses, vanished there in that very instant.

Verse 17 (shiva.rudra.191.17)

तस्मिंस्त्वदर्शनं प्राप्ते प्राद्युम्निरपराजितम् । आलोक्य ककुभः सर्वाः तस्थौ गिरिरिवाचलः

tasmiṁstvadarśanaṁ prāpte prādyumniraparājitam ālokya kakubhaḥ sarvāḥ tasthau giririvācalaḥ

When Bana had thus vanished from sight, the unconquered son of Pradyumna, gazing about at every quarter, stood still as a motionless mountain.

Verse 18 (shiva.rudra.191.18)

अदृश्यमानस्तु तदा कूटयोधः स दानवः । नानाशस्त्रसहस्रैस्तं जघान हि पुनः पुनः

adṛśyamānastu tadā kūṭayodhaḥ sa dānavaḥ nānāśastrasahasraistaṁ jaghāna hi punaḥ punaḥ

Then, remaining invisible, that danava, a deceiver in battle, struck him again and again with thousands of various weapons.

Verse 19 (shiva.rudra.191.19)

छद्मना नागपाशैस्तं बबन्ध स महाबलः । बलिपुत्रो महावीरः शिवभक्तः शरासुरः

chadmanā nāgapāśaistaṁ babandha sa mahābalaḥ baliputro mahāvīraḥ śivabhaktaḥ śarāsuraḥ

By trickery, that mighty one — the great hero, son of Bali, devotee of Shiva, the asura Bana — bound him fast with nooses of serpents.

Verse 20 (shiva.rudra.191.20)

तं बद्ध्वा पञ्जरान्तःस्थं कृत्वा युद्धादुपारमत् । उवाच बाणः सङ्क्रुद्धः सूतपुत्रं महाबलम्

taṁ baddhvā pañjarāntaḥsthaṁ kṛtvā yuddhādupāramat uvāca bāṇaḥ saṅkruddhaḥ sūtaputraṁ mahābalam

Having bound him and shut him within a cage, he withdrew from the fight, and Bana, greatly enraged, spoke to his mighty charioteer's son.

Verse 21 (shiva.rudra.191.21)

बाणासुर उवाच । सूतपुत्र शिरश्छिन्धि पुरुषस्यास्य वै लघु । येन मे दूषितं पूतं बलाद्दुष्टेन सत्कुलम्

bāṇāsura uvāca sūtaputra śiraśchindhi puruṣasyāsya vai laghu yena me dūṣitaṁ pūtaṁ balādduṣṭena satkulam

Banasura said: "O charioteer's son, quickly cut off this man's head — he by whose wicked violence my pure and noble family has been defiled!"

Verse 22 (shiva.rudra.191.22)

छित्वा तु सर्वगात्राणि राक्षसेभ्यः प्रयच्छ भोः । अथास्य रक्तमांसानि क्रव्यादा अपि भुञ्जताम्

chitvā tu sarvagātrāṇi rākṣasebhyaḥ prayaccha bhoḥ athāsya raktamāṁsāni kravyādā api bhuñjatām

"Cut off all his limbs and give them to the rakshasas; let the flesh-eaters feast upon his blood and flesh!"

Verse 23 (shiva.rudra.191.23)

अगाधे तृणसङ्कीर्णे कूपे पातकिनं जहि । किं बहूक्त्या सूतपुत्र मारणीयो हि सर्वथा

agādhe tṛṇasaṅkīrṇe kūpe pātakinaṁ jahi kiṁ bahūktyā sūtaputra māraṇīyo hi sarvathā

"Throw this sinner into a bottomless well choked with weeds — what use is much talk, O charioteer's son? He must be killed, by every means!"

Verse 24 (shiva.rudra.191.24)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा धर्मबुद्धिर्निशाचरः । कुम्भाण्डस्त्वब्रवीद्वाक्यं बाणं सन्मन्त्रिसत्तमम्

sanatkumāra uvāca tasya tadvacanaṁ śrutvā dharmabuddhirniśācaraḥ kumbhāṇḍastvabravīdvākyaṁ bāṇaṁ sanmantrisattamam

Sanatkumara said: Hearing his words, that night-wanderer of righteous mind, Kumbhanda, foremost among good ministers, spoke to Bana.

Verse 25 (shiva.rudra.191.25)

कुम्भाण्ड उवाच । नैतत्कर्तुं समुचितं कर्म देव विचार्यताम् । अस्मिन् हते हतो ह्यात्मा भवेदिति मतिर्मम

kumbhāṇḍa uvāca naitatkartuṁ samucitaṁ karma deva vicāryatām asmin hate hato hyātmā bhavediti matirmama

Kumbhanda said: "O king, this deed is not fitting to be done — reflect on this; if he is slain, my thought is that our own selves would be slain along with him."

Verse 26 (shiva.rudra.191.26)

अयं तु दृश्यते देव तुल्यो विष्णोः पराक्रमैः । वर्धितश्चन्द्रचूडस्य त्वदिष्टस्य सुतेजसा

ayaṁ tu dṛśyate deva tulyo viṣṇoḥ parākramaiḥ vardhitaścandracūḍasya tvadiṣṭasya sutejasā

"O king, he appears equal to Vishnu in valor, and has grown strong through the great splendor of the moon-crested one, your own chosen deity."

Verse 27 (shiva.rudra.191.27)

अथ चन्द्रललाटस्य साहसेन समत्स्वयम् । इमामवस्थां प्राप्तोऽस्ति पौरुषे संव्यवस्थितः

atha candralalāṭasya sāhasena samatsvayam imāmavasthāṁ prāpto'sti pauruṣe saṁvyavasthitaḥ

"By the very daring inspired by the moon-crowned god himself, he has come to this state, established firmly in manliness."

Verse 28 (shiva.rudra.191.28)

अयं शिवप्रसादाद्वै कृष्णपौत्रो महाबलः । अस्मांस्तृणोपमान् वेत्ति दष्टोऽपि भुजगैर्बलात्

ayaṁ śivaprasādādvai kṛṣṇapautro mahābalaḥ asmāṁstṛṇopamān vetti daṣṭo'pi bhujagairbalāt

"By the grace of Shiva, this mighty grandson of Krishna regards us as mere straw — even bitten forcibly by these serpents, he remains unharmed."

Verse 29 (shiva.rudra.191.29)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । एतद्वाक्यं तु बाणाय कथयित्वा स दानवः । अनिरुद्धमुवाचेदं राजनीतिविदुत्तमः

sanatkumāra uvāca etadvākyaṁ tu bāṇāya kathayitvā sa dānavaḥ aniruddhamuvācedaṁ rājanītividuttamaḥ

Sanatkumara said: Having spoken these words to Bana, that danava, foremost expert in statecraft, then said this to Aniruddha.

Verse 30 (shiva.rudra.191.30)

कुम्भाण्ड उवाच । कोऽसि कस्यासि रे वीर सत्यं वद ममाग्रतः । केन वा त्वमिहानीतो दुराचार नराधम

kumbhāṇḍa uvāca ko'si kasyāsi re vīra satyaṁ vada mamāgrataḥ kena vā tvamihānīto durācāra narādhama

Kumbhanda said: "Who are you, hero, and whose son are you? Speak the truth before me. And by whom were you brought here, O wicked one, lowest of men?"

Verse 31 (shiva.rudra.191.31)

दैत्येन्द्रं स्तुहि वीरं त्वं नमस्कुरु कृताञ्जलिः । जितोऽस्मीति वचो दीनं कथयित्वा पुनः पुनः

daityendraṁ stuhi vīraṁ tvaṁ namaskuru kṛtāñjaliḥ jito'smīti vaco dīnaṁ kathayitvā punaḥ punaḥ

"Praise that heroic lord of daityas; bow to him with joined palms, and, saying humbly again and again, 'I am defeated' —"

Verse 32 (shiva.rudra.191.32)

एवं कृते तु मोक्षःस्यादन्यथा बन्धनादि च । तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य प्रतिवाक्यमुवाच सः

evaṁ kṛte tu mokṣaḥsyādanyathā bandhanādi ca tacchrutvā vacanaṁ tasya prativākyamuvāca saḥ

"— if you do this, your release will follow; otherwise, bondage and worse await you." Hearing his words, Aniruddha gave this answer.

Verse 33 (shiva.rudra.191.33)

अनिरुद्ध उवाच । रे रे दैत्याऽधमसखे करपिण्डोपजीवक । निशाचर दुराचार शत्रुधर्मं न वेत्सि भोः

aniruddha uvāca re re daityā'dhamasakhe karapiṇḍopajīvaka niśācara durācāra śatrudharmaṁ na vetsi bhoḥ

Aniruddha said: "You, friend of the lowest daitya, who lives off tribute! O wicked night-wanderer, you do not even know the code proper to an enemy!"

Verse 34 (shiva.rudra.191.34)

दैन्यं पलायनं चाथ शूरस्य मरणाधिकम् । विरुद्धं चोपशल्यं च भवेदिति मतिर्मम

dainyaṁ palāyanaṁ cātha śūrasya maraṇādhikam viruddhaṁ copaśalyaṁ ca bhavediti matirmama

"For a hero, abject begging and flight are worse than death — that would be a disgrace and a wound to his very name; such is my belief."

Verse 35 (shiva.rudra.191.35)

क्षत्रियस्य रणे श्रेयो मरणं सम्मुखे सदा । न वीरमानिनो भूमौ दीनस्येव कृताञ्जलिः

kṣatriyasya raṇe śreyo maraṇaṁ sammukhe sadā na vīramānino bhūmau dīnasyeva kṛtāñjaliḥ

"For a kshatriya, death faced in battle is ever the better fate; a man who thinks himself a hero does not fall to the ground with joined palms like some wretch."

Verse 36 (shiva.rudra.191.36)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । इत्यादि वीरवाक्यानि बहूनि स जगाद तम् । तदाकर्ण्य स बाणोऽसौ विस्मितोऽभूच्चुकोप च

sanatkumāra uvāca ityādi vīravākyāni bahūni sa jagāda tam tadākarṇya sa bāṇo'sau vismito'bhūccukopa ca

Sanatkumara said: He spoke to him many such heroic words; and hearing them, Bana was both astonished and enraged.

Verse 37 (shiva.rudra.191.37)

तदोवाच नभोवाणी बाणस्याश्वासनाय हि । शृण्वतां सर्ववीराणामनिरुद्धस्य मन्त्रिणः

tadovāca nabhovāṇī bāṇasyāśvāsanāya hi śṛṇvatāṁ sarvavīrāṇāmaniruddhasya mantriṇaḥ

Then, to console Bana, a voice from the sky spoke, so that all the warriors, the minister, and Aniruddha might hear.

Verse 38 (shiva.rudra.191.38)

व्योमवाण्युवाच । भो भो बाण महावीर न क्रोधं कर्तुमर्हसि । बलिपुत्रोऽसि सुमते शिवभक्त विचार्यताम्

vyomavāṇyuvāca bho bho bāṇa mahāvīra na krodhaṁ kartumarhasi baliputro'si sumate śivabhakta vicāryatām

The voice from the sky said: "O Bana, great hero, you ought not give way to anger; you are the son of Bali, a good-minded devotee of Shiva — reflect."

Verse 39 (shiva.rudra.191.39)

शिवः सर्वेश्वरः साक्षी कर्मणां परमेश्वरः । तदधीनमिदं सर्वं जगद्वै सचराचरम्

śivaḥ sarveśvaraḥ sākṣī karmaṇāṁ parameśvaraḥ tadadhīnamidaṁ sarvaṁ jagadvai sacarācaram

"Shiva is the lord of all, the witness of every deed, the Supreme Lord; this entire universe, with all that moves and does not move, is subject to him."

Verse 40 (shiva.rudra.191.40)

स एव कर्ता भर्ता च संहर्ता जगतां सदा । रजः सत्त्वतमोधारी विधिविष्णुहरात्मकः

sa eva kartā bhartā ca saṁhartā jagatāṁ sadā rajaḥ sattvatamodhārī vidhiviṣṇuharātmakaḥ

"He alone is ever the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the worlds; he who upholds rajas, sattva, and tamas, whose very self is Brahma, Vishnu, and Hara."

Verse 41 (shiva.rudra.191.41)

सर्वस्यान्तर्गतः स्वामी प्रेरकः सर्वतः परः । निर्विकार्यव्ययो नित्यो मायाधीशोऽपि निर्गुणः

sarvasyāntargataḥ svāmī prerakaḥ sarvataḥ paraḥ nirvikāryavyayo nityo māyādhīśo'pi nirguṇaḥ

"He, the Lord dwelling within all, the impeller, beyond everything, unchanging, imperishable, eternal, master of maya, and yet beyond all qualities —"

Verse 42 (shiva.rudra.191.42)

तस्येच्छयाऽबलो ज्ञेयो बली बलिवरात्मज । इति विज्ञाय मनसि स्वस्थो भव महामते

tasyecchayā'balo jñeyo balī balivarātmaja iti vijñāya manasi svastho bhava mahāmate

"— by his will alone even the weak become known as the strong, O son of the foremost Bali; knowing this in your mind, become composed, O great-minded one."

Verse 43 (shiva.rudra.191.43)

गर्वापहारी भगवान्नानालीलाविशारदः । नाशयिष्यति ते गर्वमिदानीं भक्तवत्सलः

garvāpahārī bhagavānnānālīlāviśāradaḥ nāśayiṣyati te garvamidānīṁ bhaktavatsalaḥ

"The Blessed Lord, remover of pride, skilled in manifold play, will destroy your pride now — he who is yet ever affectionate to his devotees."

Verse 44 (shiva.rudra.191.44)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । इत्याभाष्य नभोवाणी विरराम महामुने । बाणासुरस्तद्वचनादनिरुद्धं न जघ्निवान्

sanatkumāra uvāca ityābhāṣya nabhovāṇī virarāma mahāmune bāṇāsurastadvacanādaniruddhaṁ na jaghnivān

Sanatkumara said: Having spoken thus, O great sage, the voice from the sky fell silent; and because of those words, Banasura did not slay Aniruddha.

Verse 45 (shiva.rudra.191.45)

किं तु स्वान्तःपुरं गत्वा पपौ पानमनुत्तमम् । तद्वाक्यं च विसस्मार विजहार विरुद्धधीः

kiṁ tu svāntaḥpuraṁ gatvā papau pānamanuttamam tadvākyaṁ ca visasmāra vijahāra viruddhadhīḥ

Yet, going to his own inner chamber, he drank the finest wine, and, his mind still hostile, forgot those very words and gave himself over to pleasure.

Verse 46 (shiva.rudra.191.46)

ततोऽनिरुद्धो बद्धस्तु नागभोगैर्विषोल्बणैः । प्रिययाऽतृप्तचेतास्तु दुर्गां सस्मार तत्क्षणात्

tato'niruddho baddhastu nāgabhogairviṣolbaṇaiḥ priyayā'tṛptacetāstu durgāṁ sasmāra tatkṣaṇāt

Then Aniruddha, bound by the venom-swollen coils of the serpents, his heart still unfulfilled with his beloved, called Durga to mind that very instant.

Verse 47 (shiva.rudra.191.47)

अनिरुद्ध उवाच । शरण्ये देवि बद्धोऽस्मि दह्यमानस्तु पन्नगैः । आगच्छ मे कुरु त्राणं यशोदे चण्डरोषिणि

aniruddha uvāca śaraṇye devi baddho'smi dahyamānastu pannagaiḥ āgaccha me kuru trāṇaṁ yaśode caṇḍaroṣiṇi

Aniruddha said: "O Devi, refuge of all, I am bound, burning under these serpents; come, grant me protection, O giver of fame, O fierce in your wrath."

Verse 48 (shiva.rudra.191.48)

शिवभक्ते महादेवि सृष्टिस्थित्यन्तकारिणी । त्वां विना रक्षको नान्यस्तस्माद्रक्ष शिवे हि माम्

śivabhakte mahādevi sṛṣṭisthityantakāriṇī tvāṁ vinā rakṣako nānyastasmādrakṣa śive hi mām

"O devotee of Shiva, great Goddess, cause of creation, preservation, and dissolution — there is no protector but you; therefore, O auspicious one, protect me."

Verse 49 (shiva.rudra.191.49)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । तेनेत्थं तोषिता तत्र काली भिन्नाञ्जनप्रभा । ज्येष्ठकृष्णचतुर्दश्यां सम्प्राप्तासीन्महानिशि

sanatkumāra uvāca tenetthaṁ toṣitā tatra kālī bhinnāñjanaprabhā jyeṣṭhakṛṣṇacaturdaśyāṁ samprāptāsīnmahāniśi

Sanatkumara said: Thus pleased by him, Kali — of a splendor like split collyrium — appeared there on the great night of the fourteenth of the dark fortnight of Jyeshtha.

Verse 50 (shiva.rudra.191.50)

गुरुभिर्मुष्टिनिर्घातैर्दारयामास पञ्जरम् । शरांस्तान्भस्मसात्कृत्वा सर्परूपान् भयानकान्

gurubhirmuṣṭinirghātairdārayāmāsa pañjaram śarāṁstānbhasmasātkṛtvā sarparūpān bhayānakān

With heavy blows of her fists she tore open the cage, and reduced to ashes those fearsome, snake-formed arrows.

Verse 51 (shiva.rudra.191.51)

मोचयित्वानिरुद्धं तु ततश्चान्तःपुरं ततः । प्रवेशयित्वा दुर्गा तु तत्रैवादर्शनं गता

mocayitvāniruddhaṁ tu tataścāntaḥpuraṁ tataḥ praveśayitvā durgā tu tatraivādarśanaṁ gatā

Having freed Aniruddha, Durga then led him into the inner chamber, and there, on that very spot, vanished from sight.

Verse 52 (shiva.rudra.191.52)

इत्थं देव्याः प्रसादात्तु शिवशक्तेर्मुनीश्वर । कृच्छ्रमुक्तोऽनिरुद्धोऽभूत्सुखी चैव गतव्यथः

itthaṁ devyāḥ prasādāttu śivaśaktermunīśvara kṛcchramukto'niruddho'bhūtsukhī caiva gatavyathaḥ

O lord of sages, thus, by the grace of the Goddess — Shiva's own shakti — Aniruddha was freed from his ordeal and became happy, his pain gone.

Verse 53 (shiva.rudra.191.53)

अथ लब्धजयो भूत्वानिरुद्धः शिवशक्तितः । प्राद्युम्निर्बाणतनयां प्रियां प्राप्य मुमोद च

atha labdhajayo bhūtvāniruddhaḥ śivaśaktitaḥ prādyumnirbāṇatanayāṁ priyāṁ prāpya mumoda ca

Then Aniruddha, son of Pradyumna, having won victory through Shiva's shakti, and having obtained his beloved, the daughter of Bana, rejoiced.

Verse 54 (shiva.rudra.191.54)

पूर्ववद्विजहारासौ तया स्वप्रियया सुखी । पीतपानः सुरक्ताक्षः स बाणसुतया ततः

pūrvavadvijahārāsau tayā svapriyayā sukhī pītapānaḥ suraktākṣaḥ sa bāṇasutayā tataḥ

As before, he sported happily with his own beloved, his eyes reddened from the wine he drank, together with Bana's daughter.
