Verse 1 (shiva.uma.2.1)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । इत्याकर्ण्य मुनेर्वाक्यमुपमन्योर्महात्मनः । जातभक्तिर्महादेवे कृष्णः प्रोवाच तं मुनिम्

sanatkumāra uvāca ityākarṇya munervākyamupamanyormahātmanaḥ jātabhaktirmahādeve kṛṣṇaḥ provāca taṁ munim

Sanatkumara said: Having heard the words of the great-souled sage Upamanyu, Krishna, devotion having arisen in him for Mahadeva, spoke to that sage.

Verse 2 (shiva.uma.2.2)

श्रीकृष्ण उवाच । उपमन्यो मुने तात कृपां कुरु ममोपरि । ये ये शिवं समाराध्य कामानापुश्च तान्वद

śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca upamanyo mune tāta kṛpāṁ kuru mamopari ye ye śivaṁ samārādhya kāmānāpuśca tānvada

Shri Krishna said: O sage Upamanyu, my dear one, show grace upon me. Tell me of all those who, having worshipped Shiva, obtained their desires.

Verse 3 (shiva.uma.2.3)

सनत्कुमार उवाच । इत्याकर्ण्योपमन्युः स मुनिः शैववरो महान् । कृष्णवाक्यं सुप्रशस्य प्रत्युवाच कृपानिधिः

sanatkumāra uvāca ityākarṇyopamanyuḥ sa muniḥ śaivavaro mahān kṛṣṇavākyaṁ supraśasya pratyuvāca kṛpānidhiḥ

Sanatkumara said: Having heard this, that great sage Upamanyu, foremost devotee of Shiva, the very treasury of compassion, having duly praised Krishna's words, replied.

Verse 4 (shiva.uma.2.4)

उपमन्युरुवाच । यैर्यैर्भवाराधनतः प्राप्तो हृत्काम एव हि । तांस्तान् भक्तान् प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु त्वं वै यदूद्वह

upamanyuruvāca yairyairbhavārādhanataḥ prāpto hṛtkāma eva hi tāṁstān bhaktān pravakṣyāmi śṛṇu tvaṁ vai yadūdvaha

Upamanyu said: I shall now tell of those devotees who, by worshipping Bhava, obtained the desires of their hearts. Listen, O foremost of the Yadus.

Verse 5 (shiva.uma.2.5)

शर्वात्सर्वामरैश्वर्यं हिरण्यकशिपुः पुरा । वर्षाणां दशलक्षाणि सोऽलभच्चन्द्रशेखरात्

śarvātsarvāmaraiśvaryaṁ hiraṇyakaśipuḥ purā varṣāṇāṁ daśalakṣāṇi so'labhaccandraśekharāt

Long ago Hiranyakashipu obtained from Sharva sovereignty over all the immortals — for ten million years he possessed it, granted by Chandrashekhara.

Verse 6 (shiva.uma.2.6)

तस्याथ पुत्रप्रवरो नन्दनो नाम विश्रुतः । स च शर्ववरादिन्द्रं वर्षायुतमयोधयत्

tasyātha putrapravaro nandano nāma viśrutaḥ sa ca śarvavarādindraṁ varṣāyutamayodhayat

Then his foremost son, renowned by the name Nandana, by the boon of Sharva, waged war against Indra for ten thousand years.

Verse 7 (shiva.uma.2.7)

विष्णुचक्रं च तद् घोरं वज्रमाखण्डलस्य च । शीर्णं पुराभवत्कृष्ण तदङ्गेषु महाहवे

viṣṇucakraṁ ca tad ghoraṁ vajramākhaṇḍalasya ca śīrṇaṁ purābhavatkṛṣṇa tadaṅgeṣu mahāhave

O Krishna, in that great battle of old, even the terrible discus of Vishnu and the thunderbolt of Indra shattered upon his body.

Verse 8 (shiva.uma.2.8)

न शस्त्राणि वहन्त्यङ्गे धर्मतस्तस्य धीमतः । ग्रहस्यातिबलस्याजौ चक्रवज्रमुखान्यपि

na śastrāṇi vahantyaṅge dharmatastasya dhīmataḥ grahasyātibalasyājau cakravajramukhānyapi

By virtue of that boon, no weapons could pierce the body of that wise and exceedingly mighty warrior in battle — not even the discus, the thunderbolt, and the rest.

Verse 9 (shiva.uma.2.9)

अर्द्यमानाश्च विबुधा ग्रहेण सुबलीयसा । देवदत्तवरा जघ्नुरसुरेन्द्रान् सुरा भृशम्

ardyamānāśca vibudhā graheṇa subalīyasā devadattavarā jaghnurasurendrān surā bhṛśam

And the gods, though sorely afflicted by that most powerful foe, being at last endowed with boons granted by the great god, fiercely slew the lords of the Asuras.

Verse 10 (shiva.uma.2.10)

तुष्टो विद्युत्प्रभस्यापि त्रैलोक्येश्वरतामदात् । शतवर्षसहस्राणि सर्वलोकेश्वरो भवः

tuṣṭo vidyutprabhasyāpi trailokyeśvaratāmadāt śatavarṣasahasrāṇi sarvalokeśvaro bhavaḥ

Being pleased, Bhava also granted to Vidyutprabha the sovereignty of the three worlds; for a hundred thousand years he was lord of all worlds.

Verse 11 (shiva.uma.2.11)

तथा पुत्रसहस्राणामयुतं च ददौ शिवः । मम चानुचरो नित्यं भविष्यस्यब्रवीदिति

tathā putrasahasrāṇāmayutaṁ ca dadau śivaḥ mama cānucaro nityaṁ bhaviṣyasyabravīditi

And Shiva also granted him ten thousand sons, saying, 'You shall ever be my attendant.'

Verse 12 (shiva.uma.2.12)

कुशद्वीपे शुभं राज्यमददाद्भगवान् भवः । स तस्मै शङ्करः प्रीत्या वासुदेव प्रहृष्टधीः

kuśadvīpe śubhaṁ rājyamadadādbhagavān bhavaḥ sa tasmai śaṅkaraḥ prītyā vāsudeva prahṛṣṭadhīḥ

O Vasudeva, the Blessed Lord Bhava, gladdened in mind, lovingly granted him an auspicious kingdom in Kusha-dvipa.

Verse 13 (shiva.uma.2.13)

धात्रा सृष्टः शतमखो दैत्यो वर्षशतं पुरा । तपः कृत्वा सहस्रं तु पुत्राणामलभद्भवात्

dhātrā sṛṣṭaḥ śatamakho daityo varṣaśataṁ purā tapaḥ kṛtvā sahasraṁ tu putrāṇāmalabhadbhavāt

The demon Shatamakha, created by the deity Dhata, having performed austerities for a hundred years long ago, obtained from Bhava a thousand sons.

Verse 14 (shiva.uma.2.14)

याज्ञवल्क्य इति ख्यातो गीतो वेदेषु वै मुनिः । आराध्य स महादेवं प्राप्तवान् ज्ञानमुत्तमम्

yājñavalkya iti khyāto gīto vedeṣu vai muniḥ ārādhya sa mahādevaṁ prāptavān jñānamuttamam

The sage renowned as Yajnavalkya, celebrated in the Vedas, worshipped Mahadeva and obtained supreme knowledge.

Verse 15 (shiva.uma.2.15)

वेदव्यासस्तु यो नाम्ना प्राप्तवानतुलं यशः । सोऽपि शङ्करमाराध्य त्रिकालज्ञानमाप्तवान्

vedavyāsastu yo nāmnā prāptavānatulaṁ yaśaḥ so'pi śaṅkaramārādhya trikālajñānamāptavān

And he who by the name Vedavyasa obtained unequalled fame — he too, having worshipped Shankara, obtained knowledge of the three times.

Verse 16 (shiva.uma.2.16)

इन्द्रेण वालखिल्यास्ते परिभूतास्तु शङ्करात् । लेभिरे सोमहर्तारं गरुडं सर्वदुर्जयम्

indreṇa vālakhilyāste paribhūtāstu śaṅkarāt lebhire somahartāraṁ garuḍaṁ sarvadurjayam

The Valakhilya sages, having been slighted by Indra, obtained from Shankara Garuda, the invincible stealer of the Soma.

Verse 17 (shiva.uma.2.17)

आपः प्रनष्टाः सर्वाश्च पूर्वरोषात्कपर्दिनः । शर्वं समकपालेन देवैरिष्ट्वाः प्रवर्तिताः

āpaḥ pranaṣṭāḥ sarvāśca pūrvaroṣātkapardinaḥ śarvaṁ samakapālena devairiṣṭvāḥ pravartitāḥ

When once, through the former wrath of Kapardin, all the waters had disappeared, the gods, worshipping Sharva with an offering held in the skull-bowl, caused them to flow once more.

Verse 18 (shiva.uma.2.18)

अत्रेर्भार्या चानसूया त्रीणि वर्षशतानि च । मुशलेषु निराहारा सुप्त्वा शर्वात्ततः सुतान्

atrerbhāryā cānasūyā trīṇi varṣaśatāni ca muśaleṣu nirāhārā suptvā śarvāttataḥ sutān

Anasuya, the wife of Atri, for three hundred years, fasting and sleeping upon pestles in severe austerity, then obtained sons from Sharva.

Verse 19 (shiva.uma.2.19)

दत्तात्रेयं मुनिं लेभे चन्द्रं दुर्वाससं तथा । गङ्गां प्रवर्तयामास चित्रकूटे पतिव्रता

dattātreyaṁ muniṁ lebhe candraṁ durvāsasaṁ tathā gaṅgāṁ pravartayāmāsa citrakūṭe pativratā

She obtained the sage Dattatreya, the Moon, and Durvasas as sons; and that devoted wife caused the Ganga to flow at Chitrakuta.

Verse 20 (shiva.uma.2.20)

विकर्णश्च महादेवं तथा भक्तसुखावहम् । प्रसाद्य महतीं सिद्धिमाप्तवान् मधुसूदन

vikarṇaśca mahādevaṁ tathā bhaktasukhāvaham prasādya mahatīṁ siddhimāptavān madhusūdana

O Madhusudana, Vikarna too, having propitiated Mahadeva, the bringer of joy to his devotees, obtained great spiritual attainment.

Verse 21 (shiva.uma.2.21)

चित्रसेनो नृपः शम्भुं प्रसाद्य दृढभक्तिमान् । समस्तनृपभीतिभ्योऽभयं प्रापातुलं च कम्

citraseno nṛpaḥ śambhuṁ prasādya dṛḍhabhaktimān samastanṛpabhītibhyo'bhayaṁ prāpātulaṁ ca kam

King Chitrasena, of firm devotion, having propitiated Shambhu, obtained fearlessness from all the terrors of rival kings, and matchless prosperity.

Verse 22 (shiva.uma.2.22)

श्रीकरो गोपिकासूनुर्नृपपूजाविलोकनात् । जातभक्तिर्महादेवे परमां सिद्धिमाप्तवान्

śrīkaro gopikāsūnurnṛpapūjāvilokanāt jātabhaktirmahādeve paramāṁ siddhimāptavān

Shrikara, the son of a cowherd woman, having witnessed the worship offered by a king, devotion having arisen in him for Mahadeva, obtained supreme attainment.

Verse 23 (shiva.uma.2.23)

चित्राङ्गदो नृपसुतः सीमन्तिन्याः पतिर्हरे । शिवानुग्रहतो मग्नो यमुनायां मृतो न हि

citrāṅgado nṛpasutaḥ sīmantinyāḥ patirhare śivānugrahato magno yamunāyāṁ mṛto na hi

O Hari, Chitrangada, the prince, husband of Simantini, though he sank in the Yamuna, did not die — by the grace of Shiva.

Verse 24 (shiva.uma.2.24)

स च तक्षालयं गत्वा तन्मैत्रीं प्राप्य सुव्रतः । आयातः स्वगृहं प्रीतो नानाधनसमन्वितः

sa ca takṣālayaṁ gatvā tanmaitrīṁ prāpya suvrataḥ āyātaḥ svagṛhaṁ prīto nānādhanasamanvitaḥ

And that man of good vows, having gone to the realm of the Nagas and obtained their friendship, returned gladly to his own home, endowed with various riches.

Verse 25 (shiva.uma.2.25)

सीमन्तिनी प्रिया तस्य सोमव्रतपरायणा । शिवानुग्रहतः कृष्ण लेभे सौभाग्यमुत्तमम्

sīmantinī priyā tasya somavrataparāyaṇā śivānugrahataḥ kṛṣṇa lebhe saubhāgyamuttamam

O Krishna, his beloved Simantini, devoted to the Soma-vrata, obtained supreme good fortune by the grace of Shiva.

Verse 26 (shiva.uma.2.26)

तत्प्रभावाद् व्रते तस्मिन्नेको द्विजसुतः पुरा । कश्चित्स्त्रीत्वं गतो लोभात्कृतदाराकृतिश्छलात्

tatprabhāvād vrate tasminneko dvijasutaḥ purā kaścitstrītvaṁ gato lobhātkṛtadārākṛtiśchalāt

By the power of that vow, once, a certain brahmin's son, out of greed, deceitfully assumed a woman's form and thereby came to attain womanhood.

Verse 27 (shiva.uma.2.27)

चञ्चुका पुंश्चली दुष्टा गोकर्णे द्विजतः पुरा । श्रुत्वा धर्मकथां शम्भोर्भक्त्या प्राप परां गतिम्

cañcukā puṁścalī duṣṭā gokarṇe dvijataḥ purā śrutvā dharmakathāṁ śambhorbhaktyā prāpa parāṁ gatim

Chanchuka, a wicked and unchaste woman, having once heard the sacred story of Shambhu from a brahmin at Gokarna, attained through devotion the supreme state.

Verse 28 (shiva.uma.2.28)

स्वस्त्र्यनुग्रहतः पापी बिन्दुगो चञ्चुकापतिः । श्रुत्वा शिवपुराणं स सद्गतिं प्राप शाङ्करीम्

svastryanugrahataḥ pāpī bindugo cañcukāpatiḥ śrutvā śivapurāṇaṁ sa sadgatiṁ prāpa śāṅkarīm

Binduga, the sinful husband of Chanchuka, by the grace of his own wife, having heard the Shiva Purana, attained the good, Shankara-blessed state.

Verse 29 (shiva.uma.2.29)

पिङ्गला गणिका ख्याता मदराह्वो द्विजाधमः । शैवमृषभमभ्यर्च्य लेभाते सद्गतिं च तौ

piṅgalā gaṇikā khyātā madarāhvo dvijādhamaḥ śaivamṛṣabhamabhyarcya lebhāte sadgatiṁ ca tau

Pingala, the renowned courtesan, and Madara, the lowest of brahmins, having worshipped a foremost devotee of Shiva, both attained the good state.

Verse 30 (shiva.uma.2.30)

महानन्दाभिधा कश्चिद्वेश्या शिवपदारता । दृढात्पणात्सुप्रसाद्य शिवं लेभे च सद्गतिम्

mahānandābhidhā kaścidveśyā śivapadāratā dṛḍhātpaṇātsuprasādya śivaṁ lebhe ca sadgatim

A certain courtesan named Mahananda, devoted to the feet of Shiva, having propitiated Shiva through a firm vow, also attained the good state.

Verse 31 (shiva.uma.2.31)

कैकेयी द्विजबाला च सादराह्वा शिवव्रता । परमं हि सुखं प्राप शिवेशव्रतधारणात्

kaikeyī dvijabālā ca sādarāhvā śivavratā paramaṁ hi sukhaṁ prāpa śiveśavratadhāraṇāt

And a young brahmin girl named Sadara, of the Kaikeya country, devoted to Shiva's vow, obtained supreme happiness by observing the vow of the Lord Shiva.

Verse 32 (shiva.uma.2.32)

विमर्षणश्च नृपतिः शिवभक्तिं विधाय वै । गतिं लेभे परां कृष्ण शिवानुग्रहतः पुरा

vimarṣaṇaśca nṛpatiḥ śivabhaktiṁ vidhāya vai gatiṁ lebhe parāṁ kṛṣṇa śivānugrahataḥ purā

O Krishna, King Vimarshana too, having practiced devotion to Shiva, obtained of old the supreme state by the grace of Shiva.

Verse 33 (shiva.uma.2.33)

दुर्जनश्च नृपः पापी बहुस्त्रीलम्पटः खलः । शिवभक्त्या शिवं प्राप निर्लिप्तः सर्वकर्मसु

durjanaśca nṛpaḥ pāpī bahustrīlampaṭaḥ khalaḥ śivabhaktyā śivaṁ prāpa nirliptaḥ sarvakarmasu

And King Durjana, sinful, lustful after many women, and wicked, through devotion to Shiva attained Shiva — untainted by all his deeds.

Verse 34 (shiva.uma.2.34)

सस्त्रीकः शम्बरो नाम्ना शङ्करश्च शिवव्रती । चिताभस्मरतो भक्त्या लेभे तद्गतिमुत्तमाम्

sastrīkaḥ śambaro nāmnā śaṅkaraśca śivavratī citābhasmarato bhaktyā lebhe tadgatimuttamām

Shambara, together with his wife, and another Shiva-devotee named Shankara, both observers of Shiva's vow, delighting in the ash of the funeral pyre, obtained through devotion that supreme state.

Verse 35 (shiva.uma.2.35)

सौमिनी नाम चाण्डाली सम्पूज्याज्ञानतो हि सा । लेभे शैवीं गतिं कृष्ण शङ्करानुग्रहात्परात्

sauminī nāma cāṇḍālī sampūjyājñānato hi sā lebhe śaivīṁ gatiṁ kṛṣṇa śaṅkarānugrahātparāt

O Krishna, a chandali woman named Saumini, having worshipped Shiva even out of ignorance, obtained the Shaiva state by the supreme grace of Shankara.

Verse 36 (shiva.uma.2.36)

महाकालाभिधो व्याधः किरातः परहिंसकः । समभ्यर्च्य शिवं भक्त्या लेभे सद्गतिमुत्तमाम्

mahākālābhidho vyādhaḥ kirātaḥ parahiṁsakaḥ samabhyarcya śivaṁ bhaktyā lebhe sadgatimuttamām

A hunter named Mahakala, a kirata who harmed others, having worshipped Shiva with devotion, obtained the supreme good state.

Verse 37 (shiva.uma.2.37)

दुर्वासा मुनिशार्दूलः शिवानुग्रहतः पुरा । तस्तार स्वमतं लोके शिवभक्तिं विमुक्तिदाम्

durvāsā muniśārdūlaḥ śivānugrahataḥ purā tastāra svamataṁ loke śivabhaktiṁ vimuktidām

Durvasas, the tiger among sages, by the grace of Shiva of old, spread through the world his own doctrine of devotion to Shiva, which bestows liberation.

Verse 38 (shiva.uma.2.38)

कौशिकश्च समाराध्य शङ्करं लोक शङ्करम् । ब्राह्मणोऽभूत्क्षत्रियश्च द्वितीय इव पद्मभूः

kauśikaśca samārādhya śaṅkaraṁ loka śaṅkaram brāhmaṇo'bhūtkṣatriyaśca dvitīya iva padmabhūḥ

And Kaushika, having worshipped Shankara, the benefactor of the world, though born a kshatriya, became a brahmin, like a second lotus-born Brahma.

Verse 39 (shiva.uma.2.39)

शिवमभ्यर्च्य सद्भक्त्या विरञ्चिः शैवसत्तमः । अभूत्सर्गकरः कृष्ण सर्वलोकपितामहः

śivamabhyarcya sadbhaktyā virañciḥ śaivasattamaḥ abhūtsargakaraḥ kṛṣṇa sarvalokapitāmahaḥ

O Krishna, Virinchi, the foremost devotee of Shiva, having worshipped Shiva with true devotion, became the creator, grandfather of all worlds.

Verse 40 (shiva.uma.2.40)

मार्कण्डेयो मुनिवरश्चिरञ्जीवी महाप्रभुः । शिवभक्तवरः श्रीमान् शिवानुग्रहतो हरे

mārkaṇḍeyo munivaraścirañjīvī mahāprabhuḥ śivabhaktavaraḥ śrīmān śivānugrahato hare

O Hari, Markandeya, the foremost of sages, long-lived and greatly powerful, the glorious foremost devotee of Shiva — all this by the grace of Shiva.

Verse 41 (shiva.uma.2.41)

देवेन्द्रो हि महाशैवस्त्रैलोक्यं बुभुजे पुरा । शिवानुग्रहतः कृष्ण सर्वदेवाधिपः प्रभुः

devendro hi mahāśaivastrailokyaṁ bubhuje purā śivānugrahataḥ kṛṣṇa sarvadevādhipaḥ prabhuḥ

O Krishna, Devendra, indeed a great devotee of Shiva, once enjoyed sovereignty over the three worlds, the mighty lord of all gods, by the grace of Shiva.

Verse 42 (shiva.uma.2.42)

बलिपुत्रो महाशैवः शिवानुग्रहतो वशी । बाणो बभूव ब्रह्माण्डनायकः सकलेश्वरः

baliputro mahāśaivaḥ śivānugrahato vaśī bāṇo babhūva brahmāṇḍanāyakaḥ sakaleśvaraḥ

Bana, the son of Bali, a great devotee of Shiva and self-controlled, became, by the grace of Shiva, the ruler of the cosmic egg, lord of all.

Verse 43 (shiva.uma.2.43)

हरिः शक्तिश्च सद्भक्त्या दधीचश्च महेश्वरः । शिवानुग्रहतोऽभूवंस्तथा रामो हि शाङ्करः

hariḥ śaktiśca sadbhaktyā dadhīcaśca maheśvaraḥ śivānugrahato'bhūvaṁstathā rāmo hi śāṅkaraḥ

Hari, the sage Shakti, and Dadhichi attained greatness through true devotion; and by the grace of Shiva, Rama too became a devotee of Shankara.

Verse 44 (shiva.uma.2.44)

कणादो भार्गवश्चैव गुरुर्गौतम एव च । शिवभक्त्या बभूवुस्ते महाप्रभव ईश्वराः

kaṇādo bhārgavaścaiva gururgautama eva ca śivabhaktyā babhūvuste mahāprabhava īśvarāḥ

Kanada, Bhargava, Guru, and Gautama likewise, through devotion to Shiva, became lords of great power.

Verse 45 (shiva.uma.2.45)

शाकल्यः शंसितात्मा च नववर्षशतान्यपि । भवमाराधयामास मनोयज्ञेन माधव

śākalyaḥ śaṁsitātmā ca navavarṣaśatānyapi bhavamārādhayāmāsa manoyajñena mādhava

O Madhava, Shakalya, of purified soul, worshipped Bhava for nine hundred years through the sacrifice of the mind.

Verse 46 (shiva.uma.2.46)

तुतोष भगवानाह ग्रन्थकर्ता भविष्यसि । वत्साक्षया च ते कीर्तिस्त्रैलोक्ये प्रभविष्यति

tutoṣa bhagavānāha granthakartā bhaviṣyasi vatsākṣayā ca te kīrtistrailokye prabhaviṣyati

The Blessed Lord, being pleased, said: 'You shall become a composer of scriptural texts. My child, your imperishable fame shall spread throughout the three worlds.'

Verse 47 (shiva.uma.2.47)

अक्षयं च कुलं तेऽस्तु महर्षिभिरलङ्कृतम् । भविष्यसि ऋषिश्रेष्ठ सूत्रकर्ता सुतस्ततः

akṣayaṁ ca kulaṁ te'stu maharṣibhiralaṅkṛtam bhaviṣyasi ṛṣiśreṣṭha sūtrakartā sutastataḥ

'And may your lineage, adorned by great sages, be imperishable. You shall become, O foremost of sages, the composer of Sutras, and thereafter have worthy sons.'

Verse 48 (shiva.uma.2.48)

इत्येवं शङ्करात्प्राप वरं मुनिवरः स वै । त्रैलोक्ये विततश्चासीत्पूज्यश्च यदुनन्दन

ityevaṁ śaṅkarātprāpa varaṁ munivaraḥ sa vai trailokye vitataścāsītpūjyaśca yadunandana

O descendant of Yadu, thus that foremost of sages obtained this boon from Shankara; he became renowned throughout the three worlds and worthy of worship.

Verse 49 (shiva.uma.2.49)

सावर्णिरिति विख्यात ऋषिरासीत्कृते युगे । इह तेन तपस्तप्तं षष्टिवर्षशतानि च

sāvarṇiriti vikhyāta ṛṣirāsītkṛte yuge iha tena tapastaptaṁ ṣaṣṭivarṣaśatāni ca

There was a sage renowned by the name Savarni in the Krita Yuga; by him austerity was performed here for six thousand years.

Verse 50 (shiva.uma.2.50)

तमाह भगवान् रुद्रः साक्षात्तुष्टोऽस्मि तेऽनघ । ग्रन्थकृल्लोकविख्यातो भवितास्यजरामरः

tamāha bhagavān rudraḥ sākṣāttuṣṭo'smi te'nagha granthakṛllokavikhyāto bhavitāsyajarāmaraḥ

The Blessed Lord Rudra, appearing before him, said: 'O sinless one, I am pleased with you. You shall become a composer of texts renowned in the world, free from old age and death.'

Verse 51 (shiva.uma.2.51)

एवंविधो महादेवः पुण्यपूर्वतरैस्ततः । समर्चितः शुभान् कामान् प्रददाति यथेप्सितान्

evaṁvidho mahādevaḥ puṇyapūrvataraistataḥ samarcitaḥ śubhān kāmān pradadāti yathepsitān

Thus Mahadeva, when worshipped by those of great past merit, grants auspicious desires exactly as wished.

Verse 52 (shiva.uma.2.52)

एकेनैव मुखेनाहं वक्तुं भगवतो गुणाः । ये सन्ति तान्न शक्नोमि ह्यपि वर्षशतैरपि

ekenaiva mukhenāhaṁ vaktuṁ bhagavato guṇāḥ ye santi tānna śaknomi hyapi varṣaśatairapi

With but a single mouth, I am unable to recount the qualities of the Blessed Lord, even were I to speak for hundreds of years.
