Verse 1 (shiva.uma.32.1)

सूत उवाच । अदितिर्दितिश्च सुरसारिष्टेला दनुरेव च । सुरभिर्विनता चैव ताम्रा क्रोधवशा खशा

sūta uvāca aditirditiśca surasāriṣṭelā danureva ca surabhirvinatā caiva tāmrā krodhavaśā khaśā

Suta said: Aditi, Diti, Surasa, Arishta, Ila, and Danu indeed; Surabhi, Vinata, Tamra, Krodhavasha, and Khasa.

Verse 2 (shiva.uma.32.2)

कद्रूर्मुनिश्च विप्रेन्द्र तास्वपत्यानि मे शृणु । पूर्वमन्वन्तरे श्रेष्ठे द्वादशासन्सुरोत्तमाः

kadrūrmuniśca viprendra tāsvapatyāni me śṛṇu pūrvamanvantare śreṣṭhe dvādaśāsansurottamāḥ

And Kadru and Muni, O lord of brahmins — hear from me their offspring. In the previous, most excellent Manvantara, there were twelve foremost gods.

Verse 3 (shiva.uma.32.3)

तुषिता नाम तेऽन्योन्यमूचुर्वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे । उपस्थिते सुयशसश्चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे मनोः

tuṣitā nāma te'nyonyamūcurvaivasvate'ntare upasthite suyaśasaścākṣuṣasyāntare manoḥ

Named the Tushitas, they said to one another, when the next Vaivasvata Manvantara was approaching, at the end of the period of the illustrious Chakshusha Manu —

Verse 4 (shiva.uma.32.4)

हिताय सर्वलोकानां समागम्य परस्परम् । आगच्छत द्रुतं देवा अदितिं च प्रविश्य वै

hitāya sarvalokānāṁ samāgamya parasparam āgacchata drutaṁ devā aditiṁ ca praviśya vai

— 'For the welfare of all the worlds, having gathered together with one another, come swiftly, O gods, and enter into Aditi.'

Verse 5 (shiva.uma.32.5)

मन्वन्तरे प्रसूयामः सतां श्रेयो भविष्यति । एवमुक्तास्तु ते सर्वे चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे मनोः

manvantare prasūyāmaḥ satāṁ śreyo bhaviṣyati evamuktāstu te sarve cākṣuṣasyāntare manoḥ

'In the coming Manvantara we shall be reborn, and it shall be for the welfare of the virtuous.' Thus addressed, all of them, at the end of Chakshusha Manu's period —

Verse 6 (shiva.uma.32.6)

मारीचात्कश्यपाज्जातास्तेऽदित्यां दक्षकन्यया । तत्र विष्णुश्च शक्रश्च जज्ञाते पुनरेव हि

mārīcātkaśyapājjātāste'dityāṁ dakṣakanyayā tatra viṣṇuśca śakraśca jajñāte punareva hi

— were born from Kashyapa, son of Marichi, in Aditi, the daughter of Daksha; there Vishnu and Shakra were again born.

Verse 7 (shiva.uma.32.7)

अर्यमा चैव धाता च त्वष्टा पूषा तथैव च । विवस्वान् सविता चैव मित्रावरुण एव च

aryamā caiva dhātā ca tvaṣṭā pūṣā tathaiva ca vivasvān savitā caiva mitrāvaruṇa eva ca

And Aryama, and Dhata, Tvashta, and likewise Pusha; Vivasvan, and Savita, and Mitra and Varuna indeed.

Verse 8 (shiva.uma.32.8)

अंशो भगश्चातितेजा आदित्या द्वादश स्मृताः । चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे पूर्वमासन्ये तुषिताः सुराः

aṁśo bhagaścātitejā ādityā dvādaśa smṛtāḥ cākṣuṣasyāntare pūrvamāsanye tuṣitāḥ surāḥ

Amsha, and Bhaga of great splendor — these twelve are remembered as the Adityas; they were formerly, in the period of Chakshusha Manu, the Tushita gods.

Verse 9 (shiva.uma.32.9)

पुरैव तस्यान्तरे तु आदित्या द्वादश स्मृताः । इति प्रोक्तानि क्रमशोऽदित्यपत्यानि शौनक

puraiva tasyāntare tu ādityā dvādaśa smṛtāḥ iti proktāni kramaśo'dityapatyāni śaunaka

Even before, in Chakshusha's own period, they were remembered as the twelve Adityas. Thus, O Shaunaka, have the offspring of Aditi been declared in order.

Verse 10 (shiva.uma.32.10)

सप्तविंशतिर्याः प्रोक्ताः सोमपत्न्योऽथ सुव्रताः । तासामपत्यान्यभवन्दीप्तयोऽमिततेजसः

saptaviṁśatiryāḥ proktāḥ somapatnyo'tha suvratāḥ tāsāmapatyānyabhavandīptayo'mitatejasaḥ

The twenty-seven who were declared as the wives of Soma, of excellent vows — their offspring, of boundless splendor, were the radiant stars.

Verse 11 (shiva.uma.32.11)

अरिष्टनेमिपत्नीनामपत्यानीह षोडश । बहुपुत्रस्य विदुषश्चतस्रो विद्युतः स्मृताः

ariṣṭanemipatnīnāmapatyānīha ṣoḍaśa bahuputrasya viduṣaścatasro vidyutaḥ smṛtāḥ

The offspring of the wives of Arishtanemi are sixteen here; of the learned Bahuputra, four are remembered as his daughters, the Lightnings.

Verse 12 (shiva.uma.32.12)

कृशाश्वस्य तु देवर्षे देवप्रहरणाः स्मृताः । भार्म्यायामर्चिषि मुने धूम्रकेशस्तथैव च

kṛśāśvasya tu devarṣe devapraharaṇāḥ smṛtāḥ bhārmyāyāmarciṣi mune dhūmrakeśastathaiva ca

Of Krishashva, O divine sage, his sons are remembered as the Deva-praharanas, the divine weapons; in his wife Archi, O sage, and likewise in Dhumrakesha —

Verse 13 (shiva.uma.32.13)

स्वधा सती च द्वे पत्न्यौ स्वधा ज्येष्ठा सती परा । स्वधासूत पितॄन् वेदमथर्वाङ्गिरसं सती

svadhā satī ca dve patnyau svadhā jyeṣṭhā satī parā svadhāsūta pitṝn vedamatharvāṅgirasaṁ satī

Svadha and Sati were his two wives — Svadha the elder, Sati the other; Svadha gave birth to the Pitris and the Veda; Sati gave birth to the Atharvangirasa tradition.

Verse 14 (shiva.uma.32.14)

एते युगसहस्रान्ते जायन्ते पुनरेव हि । सर्वदेवनिकायाश्च त्रयस्त्रिंशत्तु कामजाः

ete yugasahasrānte jāyante punareva hi sarvadevanikāyāśca trayastriṁśattu kāmajāḥ

These are born again at the end of a thousand yugas; and all the classes of gods, the thirty-three, are born of will alone.

Verse 15 (shiva.uma.32.15)

यथा सूर्यस्य नित्यं हि उदयास्तमयाविह । एवं देवानिकास्ते च सम्भवन्ति युगे युगे

yathā sūryasya nityaṁ hi udayāstamayāviha evaṁ devānikāste ca sambhavanti yuge yuge

Just as the sun, here, has its constant rising and setting, so too do these classes of gods come into being, age after age.

Verse 16 (shiva.uma.32.16)

दित्यां बभूवतुः पुत्रौ कश्यपादिति नः श्रुतम् । हिरण्यकशिपुश्चैव हिरण्याक्षश्च वीर्यवान्

dityāṁ babhūvatuḥ putrau kaśyapāditi naḥ śrutam hiraṇyakaśipuścaiva hiraṇyākṣaśca vīryavān

In Diti, from Kashyapa, two sons were born — thus we have heard: Hiranyakashipu, and the mighty Hiranyaksha.

Verse 17 (shiva.uma.32.17)

सिंहिका ह्यभवत्कन्या विप्रचित्तेः परिग्रहः । हिरण्यकशिपोः पुत्राश्चत्वारः प्रथितौजसः

siṁhikā hyabhavatkanyā vipracitteḥ parigrahaḥ hiraṇyakaśipoḥ putrāścatvāraḥ prathitaujasaḥ

Simhika was their daughter, who became the wife of Vipracitti. Hiranyakashipu had four sons, of renowned power —

Verse 18 (shiva.uma.32.18)

अनुह्रादश्च ह्रादश्च संह्रादश्चैव वीर्यवान् । प्रह्रादश्चानुजस्तत्र विष्णुभक्तिविचारधीः

anuhrādaśca hrādaśca saṁhrādaścaiva vīryavān prahrādaścānujastatra viṣṇubhaktivicāradhīḥ

— Anuhrada, Hrada, and the mighty Samhrada; and, the youngest among them, Prahlada, whose mind was devoted to reflection on devotion to Vishnu.

Verse 19 (shiva.uma.32.19)

अनुह्रादस्य सूर्यायां पुलोमा महिषस्तथा । ह्रादस्य धमनिर्भार्यासूत वातापिमिल्वलम्

anuhrādasya sūryāyāṁ pulomā mahiṣastathā hrādasya dhamanirbhāryāsūta vātāpimilvalam

From Anuhrada, in his wife Surya, were born Puloma and Mahisha; Hrada's wife Dhamani gave birth to Vatapi and Ilvala.

Verse 20 (shiva.uma.32.20)

संह्रादस्य कृतिर्भार्यासूत पञ्चजनं ततः । विरोचनस्तु प्राह्रादिर्देव्यां तस्याभवद् बलिः

saṁhrādasya kṛtirbhāryāsūta pañcajanaṁ tataḥ virocanastu prāhrādirdevyāṁ tasyābhavad baliḥ

Samhrada's wife Kriti gave birth to Panchajana; and Virochana was the son of Prahlada; from him, in his wife Devi, was born Bali.

Verse 21 (shiva.uma.32.21)

बलेः पुत्रशतं त्वासीदशनायां मुनीश्वर । बलिरासीन्महाशैवः शिवभक्तिपरायणः

baleḥ putraśataṁ tvāsīdaśanāyāṁ munīśvara balirāsīnmahāśaivaḥ śivabhaktiparāyaṇaḥ

Bali had a hundred sons through his wife Ashana, O lord of sages; Bali was a great devotee of Shiva, ever devoted to Shiva-bhakti.

Verse 22 (shiva.uma.32.22)

दानशील उदारश्च पुण्यकीर्तितपाः स्मृतः । तत्पुत्रो बाणनामा यः सोऽपि शैववरः सुधीः । यः सन्तोष्य शिवं सम्यग्गाणपत्यमवाप ह

dānaśīla udāraśca puṇyakīrtitapāḥ smṛtaḥ tatputro bāṇanāmā yaḥ so'pi śaivavaraḥ sudhīḥ yaḥ santoṣya śivaṁ samyaggāṇapatyamavāpa ha

He is remembered as generous, magnanimous, of meritorious fame and austerity. His son, named Bana, was also an excellent Shaiva, wise, who, having fully pleased Shiva, attained the rank of a leader of Shiva's hosts.

Verse 23 (shiva.uma.32.23)

सा कथा श्रुतपूर्वा ते बाणस्य हि महात्मनः । कृष्णं यः समरे वीरः सुप्रसन्नं चकार ह

sā kathā śrutapūrvā te bāṇasya hi mahātmanaḥ kṛṣṇaṁ yaḥ samare vīraḥ suprasannaṁ cakāra ha

That story of the great soul Bana has already been heard by you — how, that hero, in battle, made even Krishna well pleased with him.

Verse 24 (shiva.uma.32.24)

हिरण्याक्षसुताः पञ्च पण्डिताः सुमहाबलाः । कुकुरः शकुनिश्चैव भूतसन्तापनस्तथा

hiraṇyākṣasutāḥ pañca paṇḍitāḥ sumahābalāḥ kukuraḥ śakuniścaiva bhūtasantāpanastathā

Hiranyaksha had five sons, learned and of very great strength: Kukura, and Shakuni, and likewise Bhutasantapana —

Verse 25 (shiva.uma.32.25)

महानादश्च विक्रान्तः कालनाभस्तथैव च । इत्युक्ता दितिपुत्राश्च दनोः पुत्रान् मुने शृणु

mahānādaśca vikrāntaḥ kālanābhastathaiva ca ityuktā ditiputrāśca danoḥ putrān mune śṛṇu

— and Mahanada, Vikranta, and likewise Kalanabha. Thus have the sons of Diti been declared; now, O sage, hear of the sons of Danu.

Verse 26 (shiva.uma.32.26)

अभवन्दनुपुत्राश्च शतं तीव्रपराक्रमाः । अयोमुखः शम्बरश्च कपोलो वामनस्तथा

abhavandanuputrāśca śataṁ tīvraparākramāḥ ayomukhaḥ śambaraśca kapolo vāmanastathā

The sons of Danu numbered a hundred, of fierce prowess: Ayomukha, and Shambara, and Kapola, and likewise Vamana.

Verse 27 (shiva.uma.32.27)

वैश्वानरः पुलोमा च विद्रावणमहाशिरौ । स्वर्भानुर्वृषपर्वा च विप्रचित्तिश्च वीर्यवान्

vaiśvānaraḥ pulomā ca vidrāvaṇamahāśirau svarbhānurvṛṣaparvā ca vipracittiśca vīryavān

Vaishvanara, and Puloma; Vidravana and Mahashira; Svarbhanu, and Vrishaparva, and the mighty Vipracitti.

Verse 28 (shiva.uma.32.28)

एते सर्वे दनोः पुत्राः कश्यपादनुजज्ञिरे । एषां पुत्रीः शृणु मुने प्रसङ्गाद्वच्मि तेऽनघ

ete sarve danoḥ putrāḥ kaśyapādanujajñire eṣāṁ putrīḥ śṛṇu mune prasaṅgādvacmi te'nagha

All these were the sons of Danu, born successively from Kashyapa; hear now, O sinless sage, their daughters — I shall tell you of them in due course.

Verse 29 (shiva.uma.32.29)

स्वभार्नोस्तु प्रभा कन्या पुलोम्नस्तु शची सुता । उपदानवी हयशिरा शर्मिष्ठा वार्षपर्वणी

svabhārnostu prabhā kanyā pulomnastu śacī sutā upadānavī hayaśirā śarmiṣṭhā vārṣaparvaṇī

Svarbhanu's daughter was Prabha; Puloma's daughter was Shachi; Upadanavi and Hayashira; and Sharmishtha, daughter of Vrishaparva.

Verse 30 (shiva.uma.32.30)

पुलोमिका पुलोमा च वैश्वानरसुते उभे । बह्वपत्ये महावीर्ये मारीचेस्तु परिग्रहा त्

pulomikā pulomā ca vaiśvānarasute ubhe bahvapatye mahāvīrye mārīcestu parigrahā t

Pulomika and Puloma, both daughters of Vaishvanara, of abundant progeny and great might, became the wives of Marichi's son —

Verse 31 (shiva.uma.32.31)

तयोः पुत्रसहस्राणि षष्टिर्दानवनन्दनाः । मरीचिर्जनयामास महता तपसान्विताः

tayoḥ putrasahasrāṇi ṣaṣṭirdānavanandanāḥ marīcirjanayāmāsa mahatā tapasānvitāḥ

— from them, Marichi's son, endowed with great austerity, begot sixty thousand sons, delighting the Danavas.

Verse 32 (shiva.uma.32.32)

पौलोमाः कालखञ्जाश्च दानवानां महाबलाः । अवध्या देवतानां च हिरण्यपुरवासिनः

paulomāḥ kālakhañjāśca dānavānāṁ mahābalāḥ avadhyā devatānāṁ ca hiraṇyapuravāsinaḥ

The Paulomas and Kalakhanjas, mighty among the Danavas, unslayable by the gods, dwelling in Hiranyapura —

Verse 33 (shiva.uma.32.33)

पितामहप्रसादेन ये हताः सव्यसाचिना । सिंहिकायामथोत्पन्ना विप्रचित्तेः सुतास्तथा

pitāmahaprasādena ye hatāḥ savyasācinā siṁhikāyāmathotpannā vipracitteḥ sutāstathā

— who were slain by Savyasachin, by the grace of the Grandsire. And the sons of Vipracitti, born of Simhika —

Verse 34 (shiva.uma.32.34)

दैत्यदानवसंयोगाज्जातास्तीव्रपराक्रमाः । सैंहिकेया इति ख्यातास्त्रयोदश महाबलाः

daityadānavasaṁyogājjātāstīvraparākramāḥ saiṁhikeyā iti khyātāstrayodaśa mahābalāḥ

— born from the union of Daitya and Danava lineages, of fierce prowess, known as the Saimhikeyas, thirteen in number, of great strength.

Verse 35 (shiva.uma.32.35)

राहुः शल्यो सुबलिनो बलश्चैव महाबलः । वातापिर्नमुचिश्चैवाथेल्वलः स्वसृपस्तथा

rāhuḥ śalyo subalino balaścaiva mahābalaḥ vātāpirnamuciścaivāthelvalaḥ svasṛpastathā

Rahu, Shalya, Subali, and the very mighty Bala; Vatapi, and Namuchi, and likewise Ilvala and Svasripa.

Verse 36 (shiva.uma.32.36)

अजिको नरकश्चैव कालनाभस्तथैव च । शरमाणः शरः कल्प एते वंशविवर्धनाः

ajiko narakaścaiva kālanābhastathaiva ca śaramāṇaḥ śaraḥ kalpa ete vaṁśavivardhanāḥ

Ajika, and Naraka, and likewise Kalanabha; Sharamana, and Shara, and Kalpa — these were the increasers of the lineage.

Verse 37 (shiva.uma.32.37)

एषां पुत्राश्च पौत्राश्च दनुवंशविवर्द्धनाः । बहवश्च समुद्भूता विस्तरत्वान्न वर्णिताः

eṣāṁ putrāśca pautrāśca danuvaṁśavivarddhanāḥ bahavaśca samudbhūtā vistaratvānna varṇitāḥ

Their sons and grandsons, increasers of the lineage of Danu, arose in great number; on account of the extent of the account, they are not individually described.

Verse 38 (shiva.uma.32.38)

संह्रादस्य तु दैतेया निवातकवचाः कुले । उत्पन्ना मरुतस्तस्मिंस्तपसा भावितात्मनः

saṁhrādasya tu daiteyā nivātakavacāḥ kule utpannā marutastasmiṁstapasā bhāvitātmanaḥ

In the lineage of Samhrada, the Daitya Nivatakavachas were born; and in that line, the Maruts, whose souls were purified by austerity, were also born.

Verse 39 (shiva.uma.32.39)

षण्मुखाद्या महासत्त्वास्ताम्रायाः परिकीर्तिताः । काकी श्येनी च भासी च सुग्रीवी च शुकी तथा

ṣaṇmukhādyā mahāsattvāstāmrāyāḥ parikīrtitāḥ kākī śyenī ca bhāsī ca sugrīvī ca śukī tathā

The great and mighty hosts beginning with Shanmukha have already been declared. Now the daughters of Tamra are proclaimed: Kaki, Shyeni, Bhasi, Sugrivi, and Shuki likewise —

Verse 40 (shiva.uma.32.40)

गृध्रिकाश्वी ह्युलूकी च ताम्राकन्याः प्रकीर्तिताः । काकी काकानजनयदुलूकी प्रत्युलूककान्

gṛdhrikāśvī hyulūkī ca tāmrākanyāḥ prakīrtitāḥ kākī kākānajanayadulūkī pratyulūkakān

— and Gridhrika, Ashvi, and Uluki — these are declared as the daughters of Tamra. Kaki gave birth to crows; Uluki gave birth to owls.

Verse 41 (shiva.uma.32.41)

श्येनी श्येनांस्तथा भासी भासान्गृद्धी तु गृध्रकान् । शुकी शुकानजनयत्सुग्रीवी शुभपक्षिणः

śyenī śyenāṁstathā bhāsī bhāsāngṛddhī tu gṛdhrakān śukī śukānajanayatsugrīvī śubhapakṣiṇaḥ

Shyeni gave birth to hawks, and Bhasi to falcons; Gridhri gave birth to vultures; Shuki gave birth to parrots; and Sugrivi to auspicious birds.

Verse 42 (shiva.uma.32.42)

अश्वानुष्ट्रान् गर्दभांश्च ताम्रा च कश्यपप्रिया । जनयामास चेत्येवं ताम्रावंशः प्रकीर्तितः

aśvānuṣṭrān gardabhāṁśca tāmrā ca kaśyapapriyā janayāmāsa cetyevaṁ tāmrāvaṁśaḥ prakīrtitaḥ

And Tamra, the beloved of Kashyapa, gave birth to horses, camels, and donkeys; thus has the lineage of Tamra been declared.

Verse 43 (shiva.uma.32.43)

विनतायाश्च पुत्रौ द्वावरुणो गरुडस्तथा । सुपर्णः पततां श्रेष्ठो दारुणः स्वेन कर्मणा

vinatāyāśca putrau dvāvaruṇo garuḍastathā suparṇaḥ patatāṁ śreṣṭho dāruṇaḥ svena karmaṇā

Of Vinata were two sons: Aruna, and likewise Garuda; Suparna, foremost among birds, fearsome by his own deeds.

Verse 44 (shiva.uma.32.44)

सुरसायाः सहस्रं तु सर्पाणाममितौजसाम् । अनेकशिरसां तेषां खेचराणां महात्मनाम्

surasāyāḥ sahasraṁ tu sarpāṇāmamitaujasām anekaśirasāṁ teṣāṁ khecarāṇāṁ mahātmanām

Of Surasa, a thousand serpents of boundless splendor were born, many-headed, great-souled, moving through the sky —

Verse 45 (shiva.uma.32.45)

येषां प्रधाना राजानः शेषवासुकितक्षकाः । ऐरावतो महापद्मः कम्बलाश्वतरावुभौ

yeṣāṁ pradhānā rājānaḥ śeṣavāsukitakṣakāḥ airāvato mahāpadmaḥ kambalāśvatarāvubhau

— among whom the chief kings were Shesha, Vasuki, and Takshaka; Airavata, Mahapadma, and both Kambala and Ashvatara.

Verse 46 (shiva.uma.32.46)

ऐलापत्रस्तथा पद्मः कर्कोटकधनञ्जयौ । महानीलमहाकर्णौ धृतराष्ट्रो बलाहकः

ailāpatrastathā padmaḥ karkoṭakadhanañjayau mahānīlamahākarṇau dhṛtarāṣṭro balāhakaḥ

Ailapatra, and Padma; Karkotaka and Dhananjaya; Mahanila and Mahakarna; Dhritarashtra and Balahaka.

Verse 47 (shiva.uma.32.47)

कुहरः पुष्पदन्तश्च दुर्मुखः सुमुखस्तथा । बहुशः खररोमा च पाणिरित्येवमादयः

kuharaḥ puṣpadantaśca durmukhaḥ sumukhastathā bahuśaḥ khararomā ca pāṇirityevamādayaḥ

Kuhara, and Pushpadanta; Durmukha, and likewise Sumukha; Bahusha, Khararoma, and Pani — these and others.

Verse 48 (shiva.uma.32.48)

गणाः क्रोधवशायाश्च तस्याः सर्वे च दंष्ट्रिणः । अण्डजाः पक्षिणोऽब्जाश्च वराह्याः पशवो मताः

gaṇāḥ krodhavaśāyāśca tasyāḥ sarve ca daṁṣṭriṇaḥ aṇḍajāḥ pakṣiṇo'bjāśca varāhyāḥ paśavo matāḥ

And the offspring of Krodhavasha are all fanged creatures; egg-born beings, birds, aquatic creatures, and swine-like animals are considered her descendants.

Verse 49 (shiva.uma.32.49)

अनायुषायाः पुत्राश्च पञ्चाशच्च महाबलाः । अभवन्बलवृक्षौ च विक्षरोऽथ बृहंस्तथा

anāyuṣāyāḥ putrāśca pañcāśacca mahābalāḥ abhavanbalavṛkṣau ca vikṣaro'tha bṛhaṁstathā

Anayusha's sons, fifty in number, of great strength, came into being; among them Balavriksha, Vikshara, and likewise Brihat.

Verse 50 (shiva.uma.32.50)

शशांस्तु जनयामास सुररभिर्महिषांस्तथा । इला वृक्षाँल्लता वल्लीस्तृणजातीस्तु सर्वशः

śaśāṁstu janayāmāsa surarabhirmahiṣāṁstathā ilā vṛkṣā~llatā vallīstṛṇajātīstu sarvaśaḥ

Surabhi gave birth to hares and buffaloes; and Ila gave birth to trees, creepers, vines, and every kind of grass.

Verse 51 (shiva.uma.32.51)

खशा तु यक्षरक्षांसि मुनिरप्सरसस्तथा । अरिष्टासूत सर्पांश्च प्रभा वै मानवोत्तमान्

khaśā tu yakṣarakṣāṁsi munirapsarasastathā ariṣṭāsūta sarpāṁśca prabhā vai mānavottamān

Khasa gave birth to Yakshas and Rakshasas; Muni gave birth to Apsaras; Arishta gave birth to serpents; and Prabha gave birth to the finest of humans.

Verse 52 (shiva.uma.32.52)

एते कश्यपदायादाः कीर्तितास्ते मुनीश्वर । येषां पुत्राश्च पौत्राश्च शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः

ete kaśyapadāyādāḥ kīrtitāste munīśvara yeṣāṁ putrāśca pautrāśca śataśo'tha sahasraśaḥ

These, O lord of sages, are declared to be the heirs of Kashyapa, whose sons and grandsons number in the hundreds and thousands.
