The Glory of Ravi Tirtha

Verse 1 (skanda.5.225.1)

श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच। रेवाया उत्तरे कूले तीर्थं परमशोभनम्। रविणा निर्मितं पार्थ सर्वपापक्षयंकरम्

śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca| revāyā uttare kūle tīrthaṁ paramaśobhanam| raviṇā nirmitaṁ pārtha sarvapāpakṣayaṁkaram

Shri Markandeya said: On the northern bank of the Reva is a most beautiful tirtha, O Partha, made by the Sun, destroying every sin.

Verse 2 (skanda.5.225.2)

स्वांशेन भास्करस्तत्र तिष्ठते चोत्तरे तटे। सर्वव्याधिहरः पुंसां नर्मदायां व्यवस्थितः

svāṁśena bhāskarastatra tiṣṭhate cottare taṭe| sarvavyādhiharaḥ puṁsāṁ narmadāyāṁ vyavasthitaḥ

There, by his own portion, the Sun resides on the northern bank; established in the Narmada, he removes every disease of men.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.225.3)

षष्ठ्यांषष्ठ्यां नृपश्रेष्ठ ह्यष्टम्यां च चतुर्दशीम्। स्नानं यः कारयेन्मर्त्यः श्राद्धं प्रेतेषु भक्तितः। तस्य पापक्षयः पार्थ सूर्यलोके महीयते

ṣaṣṭhyāṁṣaṣṭhyāṁ nṛpaśreṣṭha hyaṣṭamyāṁ ca caturdaśīm| snānaṁ yaḥ kārayenmartyaḥ śrāddhaṁ preteṣu bhaktitaḥ| tasya pāpakṣayaḥ pārtha sūryaloke mahīyate

O best of kings, whatever mortal bathes there on every sixth, eighth, and fourteenth tithi and devotedly performs the shraddha for the departed — his sin, O Partha, is destroyed, and he is exalted in the world of the Sun.

Verse 4 (skanda.5.225.4)

ततः स्वर्गाच्च्युतः सोऽपि जायते विमले कुले। धनाढ्यो व्याधिनिर्मुक्तो जीवेज्जन्मनिजन्मनि

tataḥ svargāccyutaḥ so'pi jāyate vimale kule| dhanāḍhyo vyādhinirmukto jīvejjanmanijanmani

Then, falling from heaven, he too is born in a spotless family — wealthy, free from disease, living on birth after birth.
