The Glory of Anileshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.109.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि अनिलेश्वरमुत्तमम्। तस्योत्तरेशानदिक्स्थं धनुषां त्रितये प्रिये॥

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi anileśvaramuttamam| tasyottareśānadiksthaṁ dhanuṣāṁ tritaye priye||

Ishvara said: Thereafter, O Mahadevi, one should go to the excellent Anileshvara. O beloved, it lies in the direction between north and northeast from that place, at a distance of three bow-lengths.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.109.2)

लिंगं महाप्रभावं हि दर्शनात्पापनाशनम्। वसूनां पञ्चमो योऽसावनिलः परिकीर्तितः॥

liṁgaṁ mahāprabhāvaṁ hi darśanātpāpanāśanam| vasūnāṁ pañcamo yo'sāvanilaḥ parikīrtitaḥ||

That linga is of great power, its very sight destroying sin. He who is the fifth among the Vasus is declared to be Anila.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.109.3)

स चाऽऽराध्य महादेवं प्रत्यक्षीकृतवान्भवम्। लिंगं प्रतिष्ठयामास सम्यक्छ्रद्धासमन्वितः॥

sa cā''rādhya mahādevaṁ pratyakṣīkṛtavānbhavam| liṁgaṁ pratiṣṭhayāmāsa samyakchraddhāsamanvitaḥ||

He, having worshipped the great god, made Bhava (Shiva) manifest before him, and, endowed with true faith, established that linga.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.109.4)

एवमीशप्रभावेन सुतस्तस्याऽप्यभूद्बली। मनोजवेति विख्यातो ह्यविज्ञातगतिस्तथा॥

evamīśaprabhāvena sutastasyā'pyabhūdbalī| manojaveti vikhyāto hyavijñātagatistathā||

Thus, through the power of Ishvara, a mighty son was also born to him, renowned by the name Manojava (mind-swift), whose movement was known to none.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.109.5)

तं दृष्ट्वा व्याधिना मर्त्यो पीड्यते न कदाचन। नान्धो न बधिरो मूको न रोगी न च निर्धनः। कदाचिज्जायते मर्त्यस्तेन दृष्टेन भूतले॥

taṁ dṛṣṭvā vyādhinā martyo pīḍyate na kadācana| nāndho na badhiro mūko na rogī na ca nirdhanaḥ| kadācijjāyate martyastena dṛṣṭena bhūtale||

Having beheld him, a mortal is never afflicted by disease. Through that sight, a mortal upon this earth never becomes blind, deaf, mute, diseased, or destitute.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.109.6)

पुष्पमेकं तु यो दद्यात्तस्य लिंगस्य चोपरि। सुखसौभाग्यसंपन्नः स सदा रूपवान्भवेत्॥

puṣpamekaṁ tu yo dadyāttasya liṁgasya copari| sukhasaubhāgyasaṁpannaḥ sa sadā rūpavānbhavet||

Whoever offers even a single flower upon this linga becomes endowed with happiness and good fortune, and is ever handsome of form.

Verse 7 (skanda.7.109.7)

इत्येवं कथितं देवि माहात्म्यं पापनाशनम्। श्रुत्वाऽनुमोद्य भावेन सर्वकामैः समृद्ध्यते॥

ityevaṁ kathitaṁ devi māhātmyaṁ pāpanāśanam| śrutvā'numodya bhāvena sarvakāmaiḥ samṛddhyate||

O Devi, thus has this sin-destroying glory been told. Having heard it and rejoiced in it with true feeling, one becomes prosperous with the fulfillment of all desires.
