The Glory of Gopishvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.120.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि गोपीश्वरमनुत्तमम्। बलातिबलदैत्यघ्न्या उत्तरे धनुषां त्रये

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi gopīśvaramanuttamam| balātibaladaityaghnyā uttare dhanuṣāṁ traye

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should proceed to the incomparable Gopishvara, situated three bow-lengths to the north of her who slays the demons Bala and Atibala.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.120.2)

संस्थितं पापशमनं गोपीभिः संप्रतिष्ठितम्। समाराध्य महादेवं पुत्रहेतोर्महेश्वरम्। सर्वकामप्रदं नॄणां पूजितं संततिप्रदम्

saṁsthitaṁ pāpaśamanaṁ gopībhiḥ saṁpratiṣṭhitam| samārādhya mahādevaṁ putrahetormaheśvaram| sarvakāmapradaṁ nṝṇāṁ pūjitaṁ saṁtatipradam

There stands that sin-destroying linga, established by the Gopis; worshipped by them for the sake of a son, that Maheshvara grants every desire of men and, when honored, bestows offspring.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.120.3)

चैत्रशुक्लतृतीयायां यस्तं पूजयते नरः। गंधपुष्पोपहारैश्च स प्राप्नोतीप्सितं फलम्

caitraśuklatṛtīyāyāṁ yastaṁ pūjayate naraḥ| gaṁdhapuṣpopahāraiśca sa prāpnotīpsitaṁ phalam

On the third day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, whatever man worships him with offerings of fragrance and flowers obtains the fruit he desires.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.120.4)

एवं संक्षेपतः प्रोक्तं माहात्म्यं पापनाशनम्। गोपीश्वरस्य देवस्य प्रभासक्षेत्रवासिनः

evaṁ saṁkṣepataḥ proktaṁ māhātmyaṁ pāpanāśanam| gopīśvarasya devasya prabhāsakṣetravāsinaḥ

Thus has been told in brief this sin-destroying glory of the god Gopishvara, who dwells in the sacred field of Prabhasa.
