The Glory of Lomasheshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.136.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि लोमशेश्वरमुत्तमम्। दुःखान्तकारिणीपूर्वे धनुषां सप्तके स्थितम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi lomaśeśvaramuttamam| duḥkhāntakāriṇīpūrve dhanuṣāṁ saptake sthitam

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the excellent Lomasheshvara, situated seven bow-lengths to the east of Dukhantakarini.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.136.2)

स्थापितं तत्र देवेशि लोमशेन महर्षिणा। गुहामध्ये महालिंगं तपः कृत्वा सुदुश्चरम्

sthāpitaṁ tatra deveśi lomaśena maharṣiṇā| guhāmadhye mahāliṁgaṁ tapaḥ kṛtvā suduścaram

O Goddess of gods, there, in the midst of a cave, the great sage Lomasha, having performed a most difficult austerity, established that great linga.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.136.3)

कोटीनां त्रितयं सार्धमिंद्राद्याः स्वर्भुजः प्रिये। यदा नाशं गमिष्यंति तदा तस्य क्षयो ध्रुवम्

koṭīnāṁ tritayaṁ sārdhamiṁdrādyāḥ svarbhujaḥ priye| yadā nāśaṁ gamiṣyanti tadā tasya kṣayo dhruvam

O beloved, when three and a half crore Indras and other enjoyers of heaven shall come to their end, only then, assuredly, shall that sage's own end come.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.136.4)

यावंति देहरोमाणि इन्द्रास्तावन्त एव च। क्रमादिन्द्रे विनष्टे तु तल्लोमपतनं भवेत्

yāvaṁti deharomāṇi indrāstāvanta eva ca| kramādindre vinaṣṭe tu tallomapatanaṁ bhavet

As many hairs as there are on his body, that many Indras there are; when, one by one in due course, an Indra perishes, correspondingly one hair of his falls.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.136.5)

एवमीशप्रसादेन चिरायुर्लोमशोऽभवत्। ब्रह्माणः षड्विनश्यन्ति समग्रायुषि लोमशे

evamīśaprasādena cirāyurlomaśo'bhavat| brahmāṇaḥ ṣaḍvinaśyanti samagrāyuṣi lomaśe

Thus, by the grace of the Lord, Lomasha became one of immense lifespan; within his complete lifetime, six Brahmas perish in succession.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.136.6)

य एवं पूजयेद्भक्त्या तल्लिंगं लोमशार्चितम्। सोऽपि दीर्घायुराप्नोति निर्व्याधिर्नीरुजः सुखी

ya evaṁ pūjayedbhaktyā talliṁgaṁ lomaśārcitam| so'pi dīrghāyurāpnoti nirvyādhirnīrujaḥ sukhī

Whoever thus worships with devotion that linga honored by Lomasha likewise obtains a long life, free from affliction, free from disease, and full of happiness.
