The Glory of Trisangama

Verse 1 (skanda.7.183.1)

ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि मिश्रतीर्थमनुत्तमम्। त्रिसंगमेति विख्यातं सौरं तीर्थमनुत्तमम्

tato gacchenmahādevi miśratīrthamanuttamam| trisaṁgameti vikhyātaṁ sauraṁ tīrthamanuttamam

Then, O great Goddess, one should go to that incomparable Mishratirtha, famed by the name Trisangama, an incomparable tirtha sacred to the Sun.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.183.2)

सरस्वती हिरण्या च समुद्रश्चैव भामिनि। त्रयाणां संगमो यत्र दुष्प्राप्यो दैवतैरपि

sarasvatī hiraṇyā ca samudraścaiva bhāmini| trayāṇāṁ saṁgamo yatra duṣprāpyo daivatairapi

O radiant one, Sarasvati, Hiranya, and the ocean — where these three meet is a place hard to attain even for the gods.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.183.3)

सर्वेषां तत्र तीर्थानां प्रधानं तीर्थमुत्तमम्। सूर्यपर्वणि संप्राप्ते कुरुक्षेत्राद्विशिष्यते

sarveṣāṁ tatra tīrthānāṁ pradhānaṁ tīrthamuttamam| sūryaparvaṇi saṁprāpte kurukṣetrādviśiṣyate

It is the foremost and best of all tirthas; when a solar festival occurs, it becomes superior even to Kurukshetra.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.183.4)

स्नानं दानं जपस्तत्र सर्वं कोटिगुणं भवेत्

snānaṁ dānaṁ japastatra sarvaṁ koṭiguṇaṁ bhavet

Bathing, charity, and recitation there all become a crore times more fruitful.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.183.5)

मंकीश्वरान्महादेवि यावल्लिंगं कृतस्मरम्। एतस्मिन्नन्तरे देवि तीर्थानां दशकोटयः

maṁkīśvarānmahādevi yāvalliṁgaṁ kṛtasmaram| etasminnantare devi tīrthānāṁ daśakoṭayaḥ

O great Goddess, from Mankishvara up to the linga Kritasmara, in this interval, O goddess, there are ten crores of tirthas.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.183.6)

कृमिकीटपतंगाश्च श्वपचा वा नराधमाः। सोऽपि स्वर्गमवाप्नोति किं पुनर्भावितात्मवान्

kṛmikīṭapataṁgāśca śvapacā vā narādhamāḥ| so'pi svargamavāpnoti kiṁ punarbhāvitātmavān

Even worms, insects, moths, and outcaste men lowest of the low attain heaven there — what then of one whose heart is pure!

Verse 7 (skanda.7.183.7)

तत्र पीतानि वस्त्राणि काञ्चनं सुरभिस्तथा। ब्राह्मणाय प्रदातव्या सम्यग्यात्राफलेप्सुभिः

tatra pītāni vastrāṇi kāñcanaṁ surabhistathā| brāhmaṇāya pradātavyā samyagyātrāphalepsubhiḥ

Those desiring the complete fruit of the pilgrimage should give there yellow garments, gold, and a cow to a brahmin.

Verse 8 (skanda.7.183.8)

कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दश्यां स्नात्वा यस्तर्पयेत्पितॄन्। तर्पिताः पितरस्तेन यावच्चन्द्रार्कतारकम्

kṛṣṇapakṣe caturdaśyāṁ snātvā yastarpayetpitṝn| tarpitāḥ pitarastena yāvaccandrārkatārakam

He who bathes on the fourteenth of the dark fortnight and offers libations to the ancestors — by him the ancestors remain satisfied as long as the moon, sun, and stars endure.

Verse 9 (skanda.7.183.9)

एतत्त्रिसंगमं देवि महापातकनाशनम्। दुर्लभं त्रिषु लोकेषु वैशाख्यां तु विशेषतः

etattrisaṁgamaṁ devi mahāpātakanāśanam| durlabhaṁ triṣu lokeṣu vaiśākhyāṁ tu viśeṣataḥ

This Trisangama, O goddess, destroys great sins, and is hard to attain in the three worlds, especially in the month of Vaishakha.

Verse 10 (skanda.7.183.10)

वृषोत्सर्गो विशेषेण तत्र कार्यो नरोत्तमैः। सर्वपापविनाशाय पितॄणां प्रीतये प्रिये

vṛṣotsargo viśeṣeṇa tatra kāryo narottamaiḥ| sarvapāpavināśāya pitṝṇāṁ prītaye priye

O beloved, best of men should especially perform the vrishotsarga (the rite of releasing a bull) there, for the destruction of all sins and for the pleasure of the ancestors.
