The Greatness of Vichitreshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.244.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि विचित्रेश्वरमुत्तमम्। हिरण्यातीरनिलयं महापातकनाशनम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi vicitreśvaramuttamam| hiraṇyātīranilayaṁ mahāpātakanāśanam

Ishvara said: O Mahadevi, next one should go to the excellent Vichitreshvara, who dwells on the bank of the Hiranya and destroys the greatest of sins.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.244.2)

विचित्रेण महादेवि लेखकेन यमस्य च। तपः कृत्वा महारौद्रं लिंगं तत्र प्रतिष्ठितम्

vicitreṇa mahādevi lekhakena yamasya ca| tapaḥ kṛtvā mahāraudraṁ liṅgaṁ tatra pratiṣṭhitam

O Mahadevi, Vichitra, the scribe of Yama, performed intense and fierce austerity there and installed this linga.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.244.3)

तं दृष्ट्वा मानवो देवि यमलोकं न पश्यति

taṁ dṛṣṭvā mānavo devi yamalokaṁ na paśyati

O Devi, a man who beholds it never has to behold the realm of Yama.
