The Glory of Chamasodbheda

Verse 1 (skanda.7.268.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि चमसोद्भेदमुत्तमम्। यत्र ब्रह्माऽकरोत्सत्रं वर्षाणामयुतं प्रिये॥

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchet mahādevi camasodbhedamuttamam| yatra brahmā'karotsatraṁ varṣāṇāmayutaṁ priye||

Ishvara said: Thereafter, O Mahadevi, O beloved, one should go to the excellent tirtha Chamasodbheda, where Brahma performed a sacrificial session for ten thousand years.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.268.2)

चमसैः पीतवन्तस्ते सोमं देवा महर्षयः। चमसोद्भेदनामेति तेन ख्यातं धरातले॥

camasaiḥ pītavantaste somaṁ devā maharṣayaḥ| camasodbhedanāmeti tena khyātaṁ dharātale||

There the gods and great sages drank the soma with sacrificial cups (chamasas); for this reason the place became known on earth by the name Chamasodbheda.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.268.3)

तत्र स्नात्वा सरस्वत्यां पिंडदानं ददाति यः। गयाकोटिगुणं पुण्यं वैशाख्यां प्राप्नुयान्नरः॥

tatra snātvā sarasvatyāṁ piṇḍadānaṁ dadāti yaḥ| gayākoṭiguṇaṁ puṇyaṁ vaiśākhyāṁ prāpnuyānnaraḥ||

A man who bathes there in the Sarasvati and offers the pinda-oblation, especially in the month of Vaishakha, obtains merit a crore times greater than pinda-offering at Gaya.
