The Glory of Kauraveshvari

Verse 1 (skanda.7.350.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तस्माद्वै कौरवेश्वरीम्। यस्य नाम्ना कुरुक्षेत्रं तेन साराधिता पुरा

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tasmādvai kauraveśvarīm| yasya nāmnā kurukṣetraṁ tena sārādhitā purā

Ishvara said: O Great Goddess, one should then go from there to Kauraveshvari; she was worshipped in former times by him after whom Kurukshetra is named [Kuru].

Verse 2 (skanda.7.350.2)

आराधिताऽसौ भीमेन कृत्वा क्षेत्रस्य रक्षणम्। महानवम्यां यत्नेन यस्तां पूजयते नरः। तं पुत्रमिव कल्याणी रक्षते नात्र संशयः

ārādhitā'sau bhīmena kṛtvā kṣetrasya rakṣaṇam| mahānavamyāṁ yatnena yastāṁ pūjayate naraḥ| taṁ putramiva kalyāṇī rakṣate nātra saṁśayaḥ

She was worshipped by Bhima, who thereby secured the protection of the field. Whatever man diligently worships her on the great ninth day (Mahanavami) — that auspicious goddess protects him like her own son, without doubt.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.350.3)

भोजनं तत्र दातव्यं दंपतीनां न संशयः। दिव्यैर्भक्ष्यैः सुमिष्टान्नैः सा तुष्यति ततः स्तुता

bhojanaṁ tatra dātavyaṁ daṁpatīnāṁ na saṁśayaḥ| divyairbhakṣyaiḥ sumiṣṭānnaiḥ sā tuṣyati tataḥ stutā

A meal should be given there to married couples, without doubt; with divine delicacies and very sweet food she is pleased, and, thus praised, grants her grace.
