Prabhasa Khanda · Chapter 43
The Glory of Adityeshvara (Ratneshvara)
Verse 1 (skanda.7.43.1)
|| īśvara uvāca || tato gacchedvarārohe liṁgaṁ sūryapratiṣṭhitam || someśātpaścime bhāge dhanuṣāṁ saptake sthitam|| ādityeśvaranāmānaṁ sarvapātakanāśanam
Ishvara said: "Then, O lovely one, one should go to the linga established by the Sun, situated seven bow-lengths west of Somesha, named Adityeshvara, destroyer of all sin."
Verse 2 (skanda.7.43.2)
tretāyuge mahādevi samudreṇa mahātmanā || ratnaiḥ saṁpūjitaṁ liṁgaṁ varṣāṇāmayutaṁ priye
In the Treta age, O great goddess, this linga was worshipped with jewels by the great-souled Ocean for ten thousand years, O beloved.
Verse 3 (skanda.7.43.3)
tena ratneśvaraṁnāma sāṁprataṁ prathitaṁ kṣitau || paṁcāmṛtena saṁsnāpya paṁcaratnaiḥ prapūjayet
By that, its name "Ratneshvara" became current, renowned now upon the earth. One should bathe it with the five nectars and worship it with the five gems.
Verse 4 (skanda.7.43.4)
tato rājopacāreṇa pūjayedvidhivannaraḥ || evaṁ kṛte mahādevi merudānaphalaṁ labhet
Then a man should worship it with royal offerings, according to rule; thus done, O great goddess, one obtains the fruit of gifting Mount Meru.
Verse 5 (skanda.7.43.5)
sarveṣāṁ caiva yajñānāṁ dānānāṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ
And the fruit of all sacrifices and gifts also — there is no doubt about this.
Verse 6 (skanda.7.43.6)
tīrthānāṁ cāpi sarveṣāṁ yaccānyatsukṛtaṁ bhuvi || uddharetpitṛvargaṁ ca mātṛvargaṁ ca mānavaḥ
The fruit of all tirthas too, and of whatever other meritorious deed exists on earth — by this a man saves his paternal and maternal lines of ancestors.
Verse 7 (skanda.7.43.7)
bālye vayasi yatpāpaṁ vārddhake yauvane'pi vā || kṣālayeccaiva tatsarvaṁ dṛṣṭvā ratneśvaraṁ naraḥ
Whatever sin was committed in childhood, in old age, or in youth — a man washes all of it away merely by beholding Ratneshvara.
Verse 8 (skanda.7.43.8)
dhenudānaṁ praśaṁsaṁti tasminsthāne maharṣayaḥ || dhenudastārayennūnaṁ daśa pūrvāndaśāparān
The great sages praise the gift of a cow at that place; the giver of a cow surely delivers ten generations before him and ten after him.
Verse 9 (skanda.7.43.9)
Whoever, in the southern part of the god, recites the Shatarudriya, having worshipped the linga according to rule, is not born again.
Verse 10 (skanda.7.43.10)
evaṁ saṁkṣepataḥ proktamādityeśamahodayam || śrutvā'vadhārya yatnena mucyate karmabaṁdhanaiḥ
Thus has the greatness of Adityesha been told in brief; whoever hears and carefully retains it is freed from the bonds of karma.
