||1|| Madhusūdana Mādhava maṅgaladāyaka| Gopījanavallabha Gokulānāyaka| Devakīnandana dīnadayālo| Rakṣa murāre bhaktajanapālo||

हे मधुसूदन, माधव, सभी मंगलों के दाता, गोपियों के प्रिय और गोकुल के स्वामी, देवकी के नंदन और दीनों पर दया करने वाले — हमारी रक्षा करो, हे मुरारे, भक्तजनों के पालनकर्ता। जो मधु दैत्य का वध करने वाले हैं, वे हमारे हृदय के अंधकार को भी नष्ट करते हैं। हम आपके चरण-कमलों में शरण लेते हैं।

O Madhusudana, Madhava, bestower of all auspiciousness, beloved of the gopis and lord of Gokula, son of Devaki and compassionate one to the distressed — protect us, O Murari, guardian of all devotees. You who slew the demon Madhu stand ever ready to destroy the darkness in our hearts. We take refuge at your lotus feet, seeking your eternal grace.

||2|| Pītāmbarodhārī vanamālāśobhita| Śaṅkhacakragadādhara sundaralalita| Yamunātaṭavihārī naṭavaravēṣī| Madhusūdana pāhi jagadīśa surēśī||

पीताम्बर धारण किए, वनमाला से सुशोभित, शंख, चक्र और गदा धारण करने वाले, सुंदर और ललित — हे मधुसूदन, जगदीश और सुरेश, हमारी रक्षा करो। यमुना के तट पर विहार करने वाले और नृत्य में सर्वश्रेष्ठ रूप धारण करने वाले आपका दिव्य स्वरूप अनंत कृपा का दर्पण है। हम अपने चंचल मन को शांत करने के लिए आपके तेजस्वी स्वरूप का ध्यान करते हैं।

Adorned in golden yellow garments and a garland of forest flowers, bearing the conch, discus, and mace, beautiful and graceful beyond compare — O Madhusudana, lord of the universe and lord of the gods, protect us. You who dance along the banks of the Yamuna in the form of the supreme cosmic dancer, your divine beauty is the mirror of infinite grace. We meditate on your resplendent form to still our restless minds.

||3|| Kamalōcana kañjamukhāmbuja| Śrīvatsāṅkita hṛdaya manōrañja| Govardhanadharaṇa Gokulātrātā| Madhusūdana namāmi jagatpitā||

हे कमल के समान नेत्रों वाले, जिनका मुखमंडल कमल के समान है, जिनके वक्ष पर श्रीवत्स का चिह्न है, मन को आनंदित करने वाले — हे गोवर्धन उठाने वाले, गोकुल के रक्षक, जगत के पिता, मैं आपको प्रणाम करता हूँ, हे मधुसूदन। जिन्होंने निर्दोष जनों की रक्षा के लिए पर्वत उठाया, वे याद दिलाते हैं कि दिव्य प्रेम ही हमारी सबसे बड़ी शरण है।

O lotus-eyed one whose face blooms like a lotus, whose chest bears the Shrivatsa mark, who delights the mind and heart — O lifter of Govardhana hill, savior of Gokula, father of the universe, I bow to you, Madhusudana. You who raised an entire mountain to shelter the innocent from the fury of storms remind us that divine love is our greatest shelter. I offer my salutations with a heart full of devotion.

||4|| Jñānapradāyaka yōgēśvaranāyaka| Gītāmṛtavarṣaka Arjunasārathika| KarmabandhaMōcaka mōkṣadāyaka| Madhusūdana śaraṇaṃ bhavabādhaka||

हे ज्ञान के दाता, योगेश्वरों के नायक, गीतामृत की वर्षा करने वाले और अर्जुन के सारथी — हे कर्मबंधन से मुक्त करने वाले, मोक्षदायक, मैं आपकी शरण में हूँ, हे मधुसूदन, सांसारिक पीड़ाओं के हरने वाले। जिन्होंने कुरुक्षेत्र के रणक्षेत्र में भ्रमित अर्जुन का मार्गदर्शन किया, वे हर भ्रमित आत्मा के शाश्वत गुरु हैं। आप में ही सही कर्म करने, पूर्ण जीवन जीने और अंततः मुक्त होने की प्रज्ञा निहित है।

O bestower of wisdom, lord of all yogis, one who showers the nectar of the Gita and acted as charioteer for Arjuna — O liberator from the bondage of karma, bestower of moksha, I take refuge in you, Madhusudana, remover of all worldly afflictions. You who guided the confused Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra are the eternal teacher who guides every confused soul. In you alone is found the wisdom to act rightly, to live fully, and to ultimately be free.

||5|| Bhaktavatsala bhayahāraka dēvā| Prēmasudhasāgara pūrṇaprabhāvā| Nāradasaṃstuta nandakumārā| Madhusūdana pāhi bhavapārā||

हे दिव्य देव, भक्तों पर वात्सल्य रखने वाले और भय का नाश करने वाले, प्रेम के अमृत के सागर और पूर्ण महिमा वाले — नारद मुनि द्वारा स्तुत, नंद के पुत्र, हे मधुसूदन, हमारी रक्षा करो और हमें संसार-सागर के पार ले जाओ। भक्तों के प्रति आपका प्रेम उनकी पूर्णता पर नहीं, बल्कि उनकी सच्चाई और लालसा पर आधारित है। प्रेम के अमृत के सागर के रूप में आप हर उस रिक्त हृदय को भर देते हैं जो आपकी ओर मुड़ता है।

O divine one, tender toward your devotees and destroyer of all fear, ocean of love's nectar and one of full and complete glory — praised by Narada, son of Nanda, O Madhusudana, protect us and carry us across the ocean of worldly existence. Your love for devotees is not conditional on their perfection but rooted in their sincerity and longing. As the ocean of divine nectar, you fill every empty heart that turns to you with overflowing grace.

||6|| Rādhāramaṇa rasikaśiromaṇi| Vṛndāvanavihārī cittahāriṇī| Kālindītaṭakēli muralīdhārī| Madhusūdana jaya maṅgalakārī||

हे राधा के प्रियतम, रसिकों में शिरोमणि, वृन्दावन में विहार करने वाले और सभी चित्तों को हरने वाले — यमुना के तट पर क्रीड़ा करने वाले, मुरली के धारक, आपकी जय हो, हे मधुसूदन, मंगल के कारण। आपकी बांसुरी की धुन एक ऐसी पुकार है जिसे कोई भी हृदय, चाहे वह कितना भी कठोर हो, पूरी तरह अनसुना नहीं कर सकता — यह अनंत का आह्वान है जो सीमित को घर वापस बुलाता है।

O beloved of Radha, crown jewel among the rasa-filled, sporting in Vrindavana and captivating all hearts — playing on the banks of the Yamuna, bearer of the enchanting flute, glory to you, Madhusudana, bringer of all auspiciousness. Your flute's song carries a call that no heart, however hardened, can entirely resist — it is the voice of the infinite calling the finite back home. In Vrindavana's eternal spring, you reveal that divine love is not solemn but overflowing with joy and playfulness.

||7|| Saṃsārasāgaratāraka naukā| Janmamṛtyubhayahāraka ēkā| Pāpatāpa parihāraka nāthā| Madhusūdana śaraṇāgata trātā||

हे मधुसूदन, आप वह नौका हैं जो हमें संसार-सागर से पार करती है, जन्म-मृत्यु के भय को नष्ट करने वाले एकमात्र, सभी पाप और ताप को दूर करने वाले नाथ — आप शरण में आने वालों के त्राता हैं। जन्म, मृत्यु और पुनर्जन्म के चक्र और उससे जुड़े सभी भय का अंतिम समाधान केवल आपके चरण-कमलों में है। जो आपके शरण में आते हैं, हे मधुसूदन, उन्हें संसार-सागर पार करने योग्य लगता है।

O Madhusudana, you are the boat that carries us across the ocean of worldly existence, the singular destroyer of the fear of birth and death, the lord who removes all sin and suffering — you are the savior of those who take refuge in you. The cycle of birth, death, and rebirth with all its accompanying fears finds its ultimate resolution at your lotus feet alone. Those who surrender to you, O Madhusudana, find that the ocean of samsara becomes navigable, its storms cease to terrify.

||8|| Itthaṃ Madhusūdanamaṣṭakamidaṃ| Bhaktyā paṭhatē yaḥ pratidinaṃ sadā| Tasya hastē vasēt śrīrmukhe sarasvatī| Hṛdi nivasēt śrīMadhusūdanō hariḥ||

इस प्रकार, जो कोई भी इस मधुसूदनाष्टकम् को प्रतिदिन सच्ची भक्ति के साथ पाठ करता है — उसके हाथों में लक्ष्मी (समृद्धि की देवी) का वास होगा; उसके मुख पर सरस्वती (विद्या और वाणी की देवी) का निवास होगा; और उसके हृदय में स्वयं श्री मधुसूदन हरि विराजेंगे। यह इस स्तोत्र का महान फल है: जो इन आठ श्लोकों को प्रेम से गाता है, वह धन, बुद्धि और दिव्य उपस्थिति का जीवित मंदिर बन जाता है।

Thus, whoever recites this Ashtakam of Madhusudana daily with sincere devotion — in their hands shall dwell Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity; on their lips shall reside Sarasvati, the goddess of wisdom and eloquence; and in their heart shall abide Sri Madhusudana Hari himself. This is the glorious fruit of this hymn: the one who sings these eight verses with love becomes a living temple of wealth, wisdom, and the divine presence. May all who recite this ashtakam be blessed with the eternal grace of Madhusudana.
