Pasupati Ashtakam

1 jaya paśupate śambho girīśa tryambaka prabho| paśūnāṃ pataye nityaṃ namaste parameśvara||

हे पशुपति, हे शम्भो, हे गिरीश, हे त्र्यम्बक, हे प्रभो — आपकी जय हो! हे परमेश्वर, आप सभी जीवों के स्वामी और रक्षक हैं, मैं आपको सदा नमस्कार करता हूँ। आपकी कृपा ही समस्त प्राणियों को संसार के बंधन से मुक्त करती है।

Glory to you, O Pashupati, O Shambhu, O Girisha, O Tryambaka, O Lord! I offer eternal salutations to the protector of all living beings, O Supreme God. You are the master of every soul bound in the world, and your grace alone leads them to freedom.

2 paśupāśa vinirmuktya paśunātha namo'stu te| bhavapāśaharaṃ devaṃ bhaje śivamānāmayam||

हे पशुनाथ, समस्त जीवों को संसार के बंधन से मुक्त करने के लिए आपको नमस्कार है। मैं उन शिव की उपासना करता हूँ जो भवपाश को नष्ट करने वाले और स्वयं सर्वथा निरोग एवं निर्विकार हैं। वे ही एकमात्र हैं जो जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र की बेड़ियों को काट सकते हैं।

Salutations to you, O Pashunatah, for the liberation of all souls from the bondage of samsara. I worship Shiva, the divine remover of the noose of worldly existence, who himself is free from all affliction. He alone can cut through the chains that bind every living being to the cycle of birth and death.

3 viśvambhara viśālākṣa viśvanātha namo'stu te| paśūnāṃ trāṇakartā tvaṃ paśupāśavimocaka||

हे विश्वम्भर, हे विशालाक्ष, हे विश्वनाथ — आपको नमस्कार है! आप समस्त प्राणियों के रक्षक और पालक हैं, और उन्हें पशुपाश से मुक्त करने वाले हैं। आपकी विशाल दृष्टि प्रत्येक जीव की पीड़ा को देखती है और आपकी अनंत करुणा उन्हें मुक्ति प्रदान करती है।

Salutations to you, O Vishvambhara, O Vishalaksha, O Vishvanatha! You are the protector and saviour of all living beings, and the liberator from the bonds that bind every soul. Your all-seeing eye perceives the suffering of each creature, and your infinite compassion moves you to deliver them.

4 karpūragauraṃ karuṇāvatāraṃ saṃsārasāraṃ bhujagendrāhāram| sadāvasantaṃ hṛdayāravinde bhavaṃ bhavānīsahitaṃ namāmi||

मैं उन शिव को नमस्कार करता हूँ जो कपूर की भाँति गौरवर्ण हैं, करुणा के साक्षात् अवतार हैं, संसार के मूल सार हैं और भुजंगों के राजा को हार की तरह धारण करते हैं। वे सदा हृदय-कमल में भवानी सहित निवास करते हैं। यह भव और भवानी की युगल उपस्थिति चेतना और शक्ति के दिव्य मिलन का प्रतीक है।

I bow to Shiva, who is as radiant as camphor, who is the very incarnation of compassion, who is the essence at the core of all existence, and who wears the king of serpents as his garland. He forever dwells within the lotus of the heart, together with Bhavani, his divine consort. This Bhava and Bhavani together represent the perfect union of consciousness and energy.

5 pinākadhārin bhuvanattrayeśa jaṭādhara tripurāntakeśa| bhūtādhipāya pramathādhinātha paśupriyā pāhi sadā paśūn naḥ||

हे पिनाकधारी, हे तीनों लोकों के स्वामी, हे जटाधारी, हे त्रिपुरांतक — हे भूतों के अधिपति और प्रमथगणों के परम नाथ, आपको नमस्कार है। हे पशुप्रिय, सभी जीवों के प्रिय, आप हमेशा हमारी — और सभी प्राणियों की — रक्षा करें। अपने शाश्वत आश्रय में सबको सुरक्षित रखें।

O bearer of the Pinaka bow, O lord of the three worlds, O wearer of matted locks, O destroyer of Tripura — to the lord of all beings and the supreme master of the Pramathas, I bow. O Pashupriya, you who are beloved of all souls, protect us always. Guard every living being under your eternal shelter.

6 sṛṣṭisthitivināśānāṃ śaktibhiḥ paśurakṣakaḥ| sarvabhūteśvaro devaḥ paśupāśaprabhañjanaḥ||

सृष्टि, स्थिति और विनाश की तीनों शक्तियों के माध्यम से शिव समस्त जीवों के रक्षक हैं। वे सर्वभूतों के ईश्वर और जीवात्माओं के पाश को चूर-चूर करने वाले देव हैं। अपने त्रिविध कार्य में वे यह सुनिश्चित करते हैं कि कुछ भी सदा के लिए नष्ट नहीं होता, केवल मुक्ति की ओर रूपांतरित होता है।

Through the three powers of creation, preservation, and destruction, Shiva is the protector of all living souls. He is the divine lord of all beings and the one who shatters the bonds that keep every soul in bondage. In his triple function, he ensures that nothing is ever truly lost, only transformed toward liberation.

7 umāpate mahādeva śūlapāṇe jagatpate| paśūnāmīśvaro devaḥ paśupālanatatpara||

हे उमापति, हे महादेव, हे शूलपाणि, हे जगत्पति — आप सभी जीवों के ईश्वर हैं और सदा उनके पालन-पोषण में तत्पर रहते हैं। जैसे एक चरवाहा अपने झुंड की निरंतर देखभाल करता है, वैसे ही शिव का ध्यान हर जीव से एक पल के लिए भी नहीं हटता। उनका त्रिशूल — इच्छा, ज्ञान और क्रिया का प्रतीक — सदा उनकी रक्षा के लिए उठा रहता है।

O Umapati, O Mahadeva, O Shoolapani, O lord of the universe — you are the divine lord of all living beings, ever devoted to the tending and nurturing of every soul. Just as a shepherd tends his flock with tireless love, Shiva's attention to every creature never wavers for even a moment. His trident, the symbol of will, knowledge, and action, is always raised in their defence.

8 idaṃ paśupatyaṣṭakaṃ yaḥ paṭhet śṛṇuyāddharam| sa mucyate paśupāśād bhavenmukto na saṃśayaḥ||

जो कोई भी इस पशुपत्याष्टकम् का पाठ करता है या इसे श्रद्धा से सुनता है, वह पशुपाश से मुक्त हो जाता है — उसे मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं। यह फलश्रुति स्तोत्र की इस प्रतिज्ञा को पूर्ण करती है कि पशुपति के गुणों का सच्चे मन से स्मरण ही मुक्ति का द्वार खोलने की कुंजी है। यह फल केवल भविष्य में नहीं, बल्कि तत्काल चेतना के परिवर्तन के रूप में भी मिलता है।

Whoever recites or listens to this eightfold hymn to Pashupati, devoted to Hara, shall be freed from the bondage of the soul — they shall attain liberation, of this there is absolutely no doubt. This verse of phala-shruti seals the promise of the hymn: that sincere engagement with Pashupati's glory is itself the key that unlocks the gate of liberation. The merit earned is not future reward alone but an immediate shift in the quality of one's consciousness.
