संन्यासी से प्रेम करने वाले, जो संसार त्यागने वाले को विशेष दिव्य कोमलता के साथ ग्रहण करते हैं

शैव परम्परा ने हमेशा सन्न्यास आदर्श के साथ गहरा सम्बन्ध बनाए रखा है: शिव स्वयं आदि-सन्न्यासी हैं। सन्न्यासिप्रिय के रूप में अय्यप्पा यह सम्बन्ध विरासत में पाते हैं। ४१ दिनों की दीक्षा का अस्थायी सन्न्यास उस स्थायी सन्न्यास के लिए परम्परा का वार्षिक अभ्यास-दौड़ है जिससे प्रभु प्रेम करते हैं।
