Shakti Ashtakam

yā devī sarvabhūteṣu śaktirūpeṇa saṃsthitā, namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में शक्ति के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। वे सृष्टि से अलग नहीं, बल्कि हर जीव की प्राण-शक्ति स्वयं हैं। भक्ति और विनम्रता के साथ उन्हें तीन बार और अनेक बार प्रणाम करता हूँ।

To that Goddess who dwells in all living beings in the form of Shakti — the primordial power — I offer salutation again and again. She is not separate from creation but is the very energy that animates every creature. With humility and devotion, I bow to her thrice and more.

yā devī sarvabhūteṣu buddhirūpeṇa saṃsthitā, namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में बुद्धि के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। वे विवेक की वह ज्योति हैं जो सत्य और असत्य का भेद कराती हैं। जगत में जो भी सच्ची बुद्धिमत्ता है, वह देवी की ही कृपा का प्रकाश है।

To that Goddess who resides in all beings in the form of Buddhi — the higher discriminative intellect — I offer repeated salutations. She is the light of discernment that separates truth from illusion and right action from wrong. Every act of genuine wisdom in the world is her graceful presence shining through.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में श्रद्धा के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। श्रद्धा वह दिव्य विश्वास है जो साधक को तब भी मार्ग पर बनाए रखती है जब मंजिल दिखाई नहीं देती। इस दिव्य गुण के बिना न कोई सांसारिक कार्य और न कोई आध्यात्मिक साधना पूर्ण हो सकती है।

To that Goddess who dwells in all beings in the form of Shraddha — sacred faith and devoted reverence — I offer salutation again and again. Shraddha is the luminous trust that sustains the seeker on the spiritual path even when the destination cannot yet be seen. Without this divine quality, no endeavor — worldly or sacred — can find its deepest completion.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में लक्ष्मी के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। वे केवल धन-संपदा नहीं, बल्कि जीवन की हर प्रकार की समृद्धि — स्वास्थ्य, प्रेम, ज्ञान और सौंदर्य — की अधिष्ठात्री हैं। जीवन में जो भी सौंदर्य, सामंजस्य और पर्याप्तता है, वह उनकी कृपा का ही प्रसाद है।

To that Goddess who abides in all beings as Lakshmi — the embodiment of auspiciousness, beauty, and abundance — I offer salutation again and again. She is not merely material wealth but the grace that makes life flourish in all its dimensions: health, love, wisdom, and prosperity. Every moment of beauty, harmony, and sufficiency in our lives is her generous presence.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में क्षुधा — भूख और तृष्णा — के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। यह श्लोक हमें चौंकाता है: यहाँ तक कि भूख भी, जो सबसे आदिम प्रवृत्ति है, दिव्य माँ का एक रूप है। हर इच्छा और तृष्णा में वही स्पंदित हैं, जो बताता है कि सभी लालसाएँ अंततः मूल स्रोत की ओर लौटने की चाह हैं।

To that Goddess who dwells in all beings as Kshudha — the sacred force of hunger and longing — I offer salutation again and again. This verse startles us with its audacity: even hunger, the most primal of drives, is a form of the Divine Mother. She pulses in every craving of body and soul, reminding us that all yearning ultimately seeks return to the Source.

yā devī sarvabhūteṣu cetanety abhidhīyate, namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में चेतना के रूप में जानी जाती हैं, उन्हें बारंबार नमस्कार है। वे अनुभव की वस्तु नहीं, बल्कि अनुभव का प्रकाश स्वयं हैं — वह जागरूकता जो हर अनुभव को संभव बनाती है। उनके बिना, यह सारा ब्रह्मांड घोर अंधकार में होता, जहाँ जानने वाला कोई न होता।

To that Goddess who is known in all beings as Chetana — pure consciousness and sentient awareness — I offer salutation again and again. She is not an object to be perceived but the very light of perception itself, the awareness that makes all experience possible. Without her as Chetana, the universe would exist in absolute darkness with no one to know it.

sarvamaṅgalamāṅgalye śive sarvārthasādhike, śaraṇye tryambake gauri nārāyaṇi namo'stu te.

हे नारायणी, आप समस्त मंगलों की मंगलदायिनी हैं, कल्याणकारी शिवा हैं और सभी अर्थों को सिद्ध करने वाली हैं। आप शरण देने वाली त्र्यम्बके और गौरि हैं — आपको नमस्कार है। यह श्लोक उन्हें सार्वभौमिक आश्रय के रूप में स्तुत करता है — वह जिनके पास जीव तब दौड़ता है जब अन्य सभी साधन विफल हो जाते हैं।

O Narayani, you are the auspiciousness of all that is auspicious, the benevolent Shiva, the fulfiller of every purpose and goal. You are the refuge of all who seek shelter, the three-eyed Gauri — to you I offer my salutation. This verse celebrates her as the universal sanctuary — the one to whom all beings ultimately run when every other resource fails.

वह देवी जो समस्त प्राणियों में माँ के रूप में विराजमान हैं, उन्हें बारंबार और फिर-फिर नमस्कार है। यह अंतिम और सबसे आत्मीय श्लोक अष्टकम् के शिखर पर यह प्रकट करता है कि अनंत ब्रह्मांडीय शक्ति का सर्वोच्च नाम बस एक ही है: माँ। उनके सभी रूप — शक्ति, बुद्धि, श्रद्धा, लक्ष्मी, क्षुधा और चेतना — अंततः उस माँ का प्रेम है जो बिना किसी अपवाद और बिना किसी शर्त के हर प्राणी में विद्यमान है।

To that Goddess who dwells in all beings in the form of the Mother — Matri — I offer salutation again and again, and yet again. This final and most intimate verse crowns the ashtakam by revealing that the highest name for the infinite cosmic Shakti is simply: Mother. All her forms — as power, wisdom, faith, abundance, hunger, and consciousness — are ultimately the love of a mother who is present in every being without exception and without condition.
