महिषासुरमर्दिनी स्तोत्रम्
Mahishasura Mardini Stotram (“Aigiri Nandini”) — the exhilarating hymn to Goddess Durga as the slayer of the demon Mahishasura, sung with power during Navratri for strength and victory over evil.
महिषासुर मर्दिनी स्तोत्र (“अयि गिरिनन्दिनि”) — महिषासुर का वध करने वाली माँ दुर्गा की ओजस्वी स्तुति, नवरात्रि में बल और अशुभ पर विजय के लिए गाई जाती है।
अयि गिरिनन्दिनि नन्दितमेदिनि विश्वविनोदिनि नन्दिनुते गिरिवरविन्ध्यशिरोऽधिनिवासिनि विष्णुविलासिनि जिष्णुनुते। भगवति हे शितिकण्ठकुटुम्बिनि भूरिकुटुम्बिनि भूरिकृते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१॥

हे गिरिनन्दिनि, पृथ्वी को आनंदित करने वाली, विश्व से क्रीड़ा करने वाली, नन्दी द्वारा स्तुत; विन्ध्याचल के शिखर पर निवास करने वाली, विष्णु की विलासिनी, इन्द्र द्वारा वंदित; हे भगवती, शितिकण्ठ शिव की कुटुम्बिनी, विशाल परिवार वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, सुंदर केशों वाली शैलसुता।
O daughter of the mountain, delighting the earth, sporting with the universe, praised by Nandin; dwelling on the peak of the great Vindhya, beloved sport of Vishnu, praised by Indra; O goddess, kin of the blue-throated Shiva, of countless attendants, doer of great deeds. Victory, victory to the slayer of Mahishasura, of lovely braided hair, daughter of the mountain.
सुरवरवर्षिणि दुर्धरधर्षिणि दुर्मुखमर्षिणि हर्षरते त्रिभुवनपोषिणि शङ्करतोषिणि किल्बिषमोषिणि घोषरते। दनुजनिरोषिणि दितिसुतरोषिणि दुर्मदशोषिणि सिन्धुसुते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥२॥
suravaravarṣiṇi durdharadharṣiṇi durmukhamarṣiṇi harṣarate tribhuvanapoṣiṇi śaṅkaratoṣiṇi kilbiṣamoṣiṇi ghoṣarate | danujaniroṣiṇi ditisutaroṣiṇi durmadaśoṣiṇi sindhusute jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||2||
देवताओं पर वर बरसाने वाली, दुर्धर का दमन करने वाली, दुर्मुख को सहन न करने वाली, हर्ष में रत; त्रिभुवन का पोषण करने वाली, शंकर को संतुष्ट करने वाली, पाप का हरण करने वाली, घोष में रत; दानवों पर रुष्ट, दितिपुत्रों पर क्रुद्ध, दुर्मद को सुखाने वाली, हे सिन्धुसुते। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Showerer of boons on the gods, subduer of the unconquerable, tolerating no evil-faced foe, delighting in triumph; nourisher of the three worlds, pleaser of Shankara, thief of sin, delighting in the war-cry; enraged at the demon hosts, wrathful toward the sons of Diti, withering their arrogance, O daughter of the ocean.
अयि जगदम्ब मदम्ब कदम्ब वनप्रियवासिनि हासरते शिखरि शिरोमणि तुङ्गहिमालय शृङ्गनिजालय मध्यगते। मधुमधुरे मधुकैटभगञ्जिनि कैटभभञ्जिनि रासरते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥३॥

हे जगदम्बा, मेरी माता, कदम्ब वन में निवास करने की प्रिय, हिमालय के ऊँचे शिखरों के मध्य निवास करने वाली, पर्वतों की शिरोमणि; मधु से भी मधुर, मधु-कैटभ का दमन करने वाली, रास में रत। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
O mother of the universe, my own mother, delighting in dwelling in the Kadamba forests; abiding amid the towering peaks of the Himalaya, crest-jewel of mountains; sweeter than honey, conqueror of the demons Madhu and Kaitabha, delighting in play.
अयि शतखण्ड विखण्डितरुण्ड वितुण्डितशुण्ड गजाधिपते रिपुगजगण्ड विदारणचण्ड पराक्रमशुण्ड मृगाधिपते। निजभुजदण्ड निपातितखण्ड विपातितमुण्ड भटाधिपते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥४॥
ayi śatakhaṇḍa vikhaṇḍitaruṇḍa vituṇḍitaśuṇḍa gajādhipate ripugajagaṇḍa vidāraṇacaṇḍa parākramaśuṇḍa mṛgādhipate | nijabhujadaṇḍa nipātitakhaṇḍa vipātitamuṇḍa bhaṭādhipate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||4||
हे शतखण्ड करने वाली, गजाधिपति की सूँड को खण्डित करने वाली, शत्रु-गजों के गण्डस्थलों को विदीर्ण करने वाली, प्रचण्ड पराक्रम वाली; अपनी भुजादंड से खण्डों को गिराने वाली, भटाधिपति के मुण्ड को गिराने वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
O splitter into a hundred pieces the trunk of the lordly elephant-demon, fierce tearer of the cheeks of enemy elephants, mighty and lion-like in valor; feller of armies and warlords with the blows of your own arm. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अयि रणदुर्मद शत्रुवधोदित दुर्धरनिर्जर शक्तिभृते चतुरविचार धुरीणमहाशिव दूतकृत प्रमथाधिपते। दुरितदुरीह दुराशयदुर्मति दानवदूत कृतान्तमते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥५॥

रणमद में उन्मत्त शत्रुओं के वध से उत्पन्न, अजेय और अक्षय शक्ति धारण करने वाली; चतुर विचार में अग्रणी, महाशिव को दूत बनाने वाली, प्रमथों के स्वामी की; दुष्ट, दुराशय, दुर्मति दानवों का अंत करने वाली, जिनके लिए उसका संकल्प ही काल है। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Bearer of unassailable, imperishable power, arisen from the slaying of battle-maddened foes; foremost among the wise, who made even Mahadeva her messenger to the lord of the Pramathas; ender of the wicked, evil-minded, sinful demons, whose resolve is death to them. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अयि शरणागत वैरिवधूवर वीरवराभय दायकरे त्रिभुवनमस्तक शूलविरोधि शिरोऽधिकृतामल शूलकरे। दुमिदुमितामर दुन्दुभिनादमहोमुखरीकृत दिङ्मकरे जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥६॥
ayi śaraṇāgata vairivadhūvara vīravarābhaya dāyakare tribhuvanamastaka śūlavirodhi śiro'dhikṛtāmala śūlakare | dumidumitāmara dundubhinādamahomukharīkṛta diṅmakare jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||6||
शरणागत शत्रुओं की उत्तम वधुओं को अभय देने वाली, त्रिभुवन के शत्रुओं के शिरों पर धारण किए हुए निर्मल शूल वाली; गूँजते हुए दिव्य दुन्दुभि-नाद से समस्त दिशाओं को मुखरित करने वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Giver of fearlessness to the noble wives of surrendered foes, holding the flawless trident set above the heads of the three worlds' enemies; whose resounding celestial war-drums fill every direction with their great roar. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अयि निजहुङ्कृति मात्रनिराकृत धूम्रविलोचन धूम्रशते समरविशोषित शोणितबीज समुद्भवशोणित बीजलते। शिवशिवशुम्भ निशुम्भमहाहव तर्पितभूत पिशाचरते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥७॥
ayi nijahuṅkṛti mātranirākṛta dhūmravilocana dhūmraśate samaraviśoṣita śoṇitabīja samudbhavaśoṇita bījalate | śivaśivaśumbha niśumbhamahāhava tarpitabhūta piśācarate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||7||
अपने केवल हुंकार मात्र से धूम्रलोचन और उसकी सैकड़ों सेना को भस्म करने वाली; समर में रक्तबीज के रक्त को सुखाने वाली, जिससे नए रक्तबीज उत्पन्न होते थे; शुम्भ-निशुम्भ के महासंग्राम में भूत-पिशाचों को तृप्त करने वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
By a mere roar alone she reduced Dhumralochana and his hundred soldiers to ash; in battle she drained the very blood of Raktabija, from which new demons kept springing, so that none could rise again; delighting in feasting the ghosts and spirits during the great war with Shumbha and Nishumbha. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
धनुरनुषङ्ग रणक्षणसङ्ग परिस्फुरदङ्ग नटत्कटके कनकपिशङ्ग पृषत्कनिषङ्ग रसद्भटशृङ्ग हताबटुके। कृतचतुरङ्ग बलक्षितिरङ्ग घटद्बहुरङ्ग रटद्बटुके जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥८॥
dhanuranuṣaṅga raṇakṣaṇasaṅga parisphuradaṅga naṭatkaṭake kanakapiśaṅga pṛṣatkaniṣaṅga rasadbhaṭaśṛṅga hatābaṭuke | kṛtacaturaṅga balakṣitiraṅga ghaṭadbahuraṅga raṭadbaṭuke jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||8||
युद्ध के क्षण में धनुष चढ़ाए, अंगों को स्फुरित करती, नूपुरों को नर्तित करती; स्वर्ण-पिशंग बाणों से गर्वित योद्धाओं को गिराती; चतुरंगिणी सेना को रणभूमि में छिन्न-भिन्न करती। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
With bow drawn at the moment of battle, limbs flashing, anklets dancing; her golden-tawny arrows striking down proud young warrior-chiefs; scattering the fourfold armies arrayed on the battlefield amid a roar of many colors. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
सुरललना ततथेयि तथेयि कृताभिनयोदर नृत्यरते कृतकुकुथः कुकुथो गडदादिकताल कुतूहलगानरते। धुधुकुट धुक्कुट धिंधिमित ध्वनि धीर मृदंग निनादरते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥९॥
suralalanā tatatheyi tatheyi kṛtābhinayodara nṛtyarate kṛtakukuthaḥ kukutho gaḍadādikatāla kutūhalagānarate | dhudhukuṭa dhukkuṭa dhiṃdhimita dhvani dhīra mṛdaṅga ninādarate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||9||
अप्सराएँ तत-थेयि, त-थेयि की ताल पर नृत्य करती, अभिनय में रत; कुकुथ आदि ताल के साथ उत्सुकता से गान में रत; धुधुकुट-धुक्कुट-धिंधिमित ध्वनि से धीर मृदंग के नाद में रत। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Celestial women dance to the rhythms of ta-ta-theyi, ta-theyi, delighting in dramatic gestures; singing with eager curiosity to the beat of cymbals and rhythmic syllables; delighting in the deep, steady resonance of the mridanga drum. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
जय जय जप्य जयेजयशब्द परस्तुति तत्परविश्वनुते झणझणझिञ्झिमि झिङ्कृत नूपुरशिञ्जितमोहितभूतपते। नटित नटार्ध नटी नट नायक नाटितनाट्य सुगानरते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१०॥
jaya jaya japya jayejayaśabda parastuti tatparaviśvanute jhaṇajhaṇajhiñjhimi jhiṅkṛta nūpuraśiñjitamohitabhūtapate | naṭita naṭārdha naṭī naṭa nāyaka nāṭitanāṭya sugānarate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||10||
जय-जय के जाप्य से स्तुत, समस्त विश्व द्वारा परास्तुत; झणझण-झिंकृत नूपुरों की झंकार से भूतनाथ शिव को मोहित करने वाली; नटार्ध रूप में नृत्य करती, सुंदर गान में रत। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Praised by chants of victory, extolled beyond all praise by the entire universe; her jingling anklets, ringing with a sweet clamor, enchant even Shiva, lord of spirits; dancing gracefully as the [female] half of the great dancer, delighting in sweet song. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अयि सुमनःसुमनःसुमनः सुमनःसुमनोहरकान्तियुते श्रितरजनी रजनीरजनी रजनीरजनीकरवक्त्रवृते। सुनयनविभ्रमर भ्रमरभ्रमर भ्रमरभ्रमराधिपते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥११॥

सुमनोहर कांति से युक्त, रात्रि के मध्य चंद्रमुखी; सुनयनों की चंचलता से भ्रमरों की अधिपति। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
United with the most enchanting beauty of a lovely mind, whose moon-like face outshines the night itself; whose playful glancing eyes rival swarms of bees, and who is queen over every bee-like admirer. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
सहितमहाहव मल्लमतल्लिक मल्लितरल्लक मल्लरते विरचितवल्लिक पल्लिकमल्लिक झिल्लिकभिल्लिक वर्गवृते। शितकृतफुल्ल समुल्लसितारुण तल्लजपल्लव सल्ललिते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१२॥
sahitamahāhava mallamatallika mallitarallaka mallarate viracitavallika pallikamallika jhillikabhillika vargavṛte | śitakṛtaphulla samullasitāruṇa tallajapallava sallalite jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||12||
महासंग्राम में उत्तम मल्लों के साथ रत, ग्राम्य-वन कन्याओं के मालती-गुच्छों से सुशोभित; नवखिले अरुण पल्लवों के समान ललित। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Delighting in combat with the finest wrestlers in the great battle, surrounded by hosts of hamlet and forest-dwelling girls adorned with jasmine and flowering creepers; graceful as freshly blossomed, radiant crimson shoots. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अविरलगण्ड गलन्मदमेदुर मत्तमतङ्गज राजपते त्रिभुवनभूषण भूतकलानिधि रूपपयोनिधि राजसुते। अयि सुदतीजन लालसमानस मोहन मन्मथराजसुते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१३॥
aviralagaṇḍa galanmadamedura mattamataṅgaja rājapate tribhuvanabhūṣaṇa bhūtakalānidhi rūpapayonidhi rājasute | ayi sudatījana lālasamānasa mohana manmatharājasute jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||13||
मदमत्त गजराज के समान, त्रिभुवन की भूषण, समस्त कलाओं की निधि, रूप की पयोनिधि, हे राजसुते; सुंदरी जनों के मन को लुभाने वाली, मन्मथ के समान। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Regal as a rutting elephant from whose temples the ichor flows unceasingly; ornament of the three worlds, treasury of every art, ocean of beauty, O daughter of the mountain king; enchanting the hearts of the most graceful women, like the god of love himself. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
कमलदलामल कोमलकान्ति कलाकलितामल भाललते सकलविलास कलानिलयक्रम केलिचलत्कल हंसकुले। अलिकुलसङ्कुल कुवलयमण्डल मौलिमिलद्बकुलालिकुले जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१४॥
kamaladalāmala komalakānti kalākalitāmala bhālalate sakalavilāsa kalānilayakrama kelicalatkala haṃsakule | alikulasaṅkula kuvalayamaṇḍala maulimiladbakulālikule jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||14||
कमलदल के समान निर्मल, कोमल कांति से युक्त ललाट; समस्त कलाओं के विलास से युक्त, क्रीड़ारत हंसों के समान; अलिकुल से व्याप्त, कुवलय-मण्डित, मौलि पर बकुल-पुष्पों की माला वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Her stainless forehead, curved as gracefully as a lotus petal, gleams with soft, artistic radiance; every art form moves within her as playfully as swans among water; she is thronged by bees amid blue lotuses and bakula blossoms upon her crown. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
करमुरलीरव वीजितकूजित लज्जितकोकिल मञ्जुमते मिलितपुलिन्द मनोहरगुञ्जित रञ्जितशैल निकुञ्जगते। निजगणभूत महाशबरीगण सद्गुणसम्भृत केलितले जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१५॥
karamuralīrava vījitakūjita lajjitakokila mañjumate militapulinda manoharaguñjita rañjitaśaila nikuñjagate | nijagaṇabhūta mahāśabarīgaṇa sadguṇasambhṛta kelitale jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||15||
हस्तमुरली के स्वर से लज्जित कोकिल के समान मधुर; पुलिन्द कन्याओं के मनोहर गुंजन से रंजित पर्वत-निकुंज में विचरण करने वाली; अपने सद्गुणी शबरी-गणों के साथ क्रीड़ारत। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Her voice, playing upon the hand-flute, is sweeter than the cuckoo, who falls silent in shame; she wanders enchantingly among hosts of tribal Pulinda women whose songs echo through the colorful mountain groves; delighting in play amid her own virtuous, forest-dwelling attendants. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
कटितटपीत दुकूलविचित्र मयूखतिरस्कृत चण्डरुचे जितकनकाचल मौलिमदोर्जित गर्जितकुञ्जर कुम्भकुचे। प्रणतसुरासुर मौलिमणिस्फुरदंशुल सन्नखचन्द्ररुचे जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१६॥
kaṭitaṭapīta dukūlavicitra mayūkhatiraskṛta caṇḍaruce jitakanakācala maulimadorjita garjitakuñjara kumbhakuce | praṇatasurāsura maulimaṇisphuradaṃśula sannakhacandraruce jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||16||
कटितट पर पीत दुकूल की विचित्र किरणों से सूर्य की प्रचण्ड कांति को भी तिरस्कृत करने वाली; स्वर्णाचल मेरु को भी जीतने वाली, गर्जित गजों के कुम्भस्थल समान उन्नत वक्षस्थल वाली; प्रणत सुर-असुरों के मौलिमणियों से स्पर्शित, चंद्रमा समान नख-कांति वाली। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
The many-colored rays of the yellow silk at her waist outshine even the fierce sun; her bosom rivals the temples of a roaring elephant, more radiant than the golden mountain Meru itself; the moon-like glow of her nails is touched by the crest-jewels of gods and demons who bow before her. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
विजितसहस्रकरैक सहस्रकरैक सहस्रकरैकनुते कृतसुरतारक संगरतारक संगरतारक सूनुनुते। सुरथसमाधि समानसमाधि समानसमाधि सुजाप्यरते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१७॥
vijitasahasrakaraika sahasrakaraika sahasrakaraikanute kṛtasuratāraka saṃgaratāraka saṃgaratāraka sūnunute | surathasamādhi samānasamādhi samānasamādhi sujāpyarate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||17||
सहस्रकर देवताओं द्वारा भी बारंबार स्तुत; संग्राम-तारक के पुत्र द्वारा वंदित; राजा सुरथ को समाधि के समान गहन ध्यान प्रदान करने वाली, पवित्र जाप में रत। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Praised even by the thousand-handed ones, honored again and again; who saved the son of the celestial deliverer of the battle's tumult, extolled by him; granting to King Suratha and others a meditative absorption equal to the deepest contemplation, delighting in sacred invocation. पदकमलं करुणानिलये वरिवस्यति योऽनुदिनं सुशिवे अयि कमले कमलानिलये कमलानिलयः स कथं न भवेत्। तव पदमेव परम्पदमित्यनुशीलयतो मम किं न शिवे जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१८॥
padakamalaṃ karuṇānilaye varivasyati yo'nudinaṃ suśive ayi kamale kamalānilaye kamalānilayaḥ sa kathaṃ na bhavet | tava padameva paramapadamityanuśīlayato mama kiṃ na śive jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||18||
हे करुणानिलये सुशिवे, जो प्रतिदिन आपके चरणकमल की उपासना करता है, वह कमलानिलय (लक्ष्मी का निवास) कैसे न बने? हे शिवे, आपके चरण को ही परमपद मानने वाले मुझे और क्या शेष रहा? जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
O gracious one, abode of compassion, for the one who daily worships your lotus feet, how could the abode of Lakshmi not also become his own dwelling? Meditating that your feet alone are the supreme goal, O auspicious one, what is there left for me to gain? Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
कनकलसत्कलसिन्धुजलैरनुषिञ्चति तेगुणरङ्गभुवम् भजति स किं न शचीकुचकुम्भतटीपरिरम्भसुखानुभवम्। तव चरणं शरणं करवाणि नतामरवाणि निवासि शिवम् जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥१९॥
kanakalasatkalasindhujalairanuṣiñcati teguṇaraṅgabhuvam bhajati sa kiṃ na śacīkucakumbhataṭīparirambhasukhānubhavam | tava caraṇaṃ śaraṇaṃ karavāṇi natāmaravāṇi nivāsi śivam jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||19||
स्वर्णकलश के जल से आपके पूजास्थल का अभिषेक करने वाला शचि के आलिंगन समान सुख का अनुभव करता है; मैं आपके चरणों की शरण लेता हूँ, हे देवताओं द्वारा वंदित, सदा शिवमयी। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
One who bathes the place of your worship with sparkling waters from golden pitchers attains a fortune as sweet as Sachi's own embrace; let me take refuge at your feet alone, O goddess praised by the gods, ever auspicious in your abode. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
तव विमलेन्दुकुलं वदनेन्दुमलं सकलं ननु कूलयते किमु पुरुहूतपुरीन्दु मुखी सुमुखीभिरसौ विमुखीक्रियते। मम तु मतं शिवनामधने भवती कृपया किमुत क्रियते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥२०॥
tava vimalendukulaṃ vadanendumalaṃ sakalaṃ nanu kūlayate kimu puruhūtapurīndu mukhī sumukhībhirasau vimukhīkriyate | mama tu mataṃ śivanāmadhane bhavatī kṛpayā kimuta kriyate jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||20||
आपका निर्मल इंदुकुल आपके मुखचंद्र के समस्त मल को भी परास्त करता है; तो पुरुहूतपुरी की चंद्रमुखी सुंदरियाँ आपसे विमुख क्यों की जाएँ? हे शिवनामधने, मेरा तो बस यही मत है कि आपकी कृपा से जो उचित हो, वही किया जाए। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
Your spotless, moon-like lineage surely outshines every blemish on the moon of your own face; why then would the moon-faced beauties of Indra's city ever be turned away by you in disfavor? My only prayer, O one whose wealth is the name of Shiva, is that whatever your grace decides for me be done. Victory to the slayer of Mahishasura.
अयि मयि दीन दयालुतया कृपयैव त्वया भवितव्यमुमे अयि जगतो जननी कृपयासि यथासि तथानुमितासिरते। यदुचितमत्र भवत्युररीकुरुतादुरुतापमपाकुरुते जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते॥२१॥
ayi mayi dīna dayālutayā kṛpayaiva tvayā bhavitavyamume ayi jagato jananī kṛpayāsi yathāsi tathānumitāsirate | yaducitamatra bhavatyurarīkurutādurutāpamapākurute jaya jaya he mahiṣāsuramardini ramyakapardini śailasute ||21||
हे उमे, मुझ दीन पर केवल अपनी कृपा से ही दयालु हों; हे जगज्जननी, जैसी आप स्वभाव से कृपालु हैं, वैसी ही कृपा मुझ पर करें; जो यहाँ उचित हो वह स्वीकार करें और मेरे महान संताप को दूर करें। जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि, शैलसुता।
O Uma, be gracious toward me in my humility, out of sheer compassion alone; O mother of the universe, as your very nature is compassionate, so let that compassion be shown to me. Grant whatever is fitting here, and remove all great affliction. Victory, victory to the slayer of Mahishasura, of lovely braided hair, daughter of the mountain.
